"So, anyways, moral of the story: Try to tone down the hypocrisy a little - every third story I see on slashdot is something about MS' FUD tactics. How is this -any- different than what MS does?"
Here is how it's different. Nobody is being paid to spread lies and fud. The people spreading FUD about MS are doing it because 1) They genuinely love Linux 2) They are idiologically motivated or 3) they genuinely hate microsoft and all their crappy products.
People spreading MS FUD are being paid they most likely don't acutally have any feelings one way or another. they are just doing their jobs being the good little cog in the evil empire machine.
I put a copy of atlas shrugged by the toilet. I read it on the toilet every day. I tore off each page as I read it. I wiped my butt with the torn pages. Here is my review of the book for you all.
Read the damned answer you idiot. He did not say that muslims were less inclined he said they were less vocal (probably because they are less then 10% of the society here in the US).
Why do you bother posting if you never even read the article.
I'm not kidding. I am sure I can write as well as he can. Maybe we should hold a contest and grant the winner a forum. If the/. honchos want a counterpoint i'm up for it. I must admit however that I don't often disagree with 100% but I can offer different insights.
The sticker price is not everything but it is important. Hang out at the comp.databases.ms-access for a while and you will eventually see a flame war about oracle and ms-sql. The ms crowd will counter every argument by the oracle people with a variant of this phrase.
Oracle may be better and maybe more scalable but SQL server is cheaper and good enough for what you want it to do.
Guess what Linux is not only better then NT but also cheaper and plenty good enough for what you want to do. I would'nt run ebay on it but it's plenty good for any company with less then a thousand seats or less then a million hits.
Except for the fact that the worst culprits of NT unstability are the service packs and the ODBC drivers you get from MS. Not to mention the forced upgrades of IE which tend to throw your entire machine out of whack. Oh yea good luck finding clueful NT admins too. Most of the ones I know got their MSCE in a week course and got a job soon after.
It takes an average of three days to get a useless and wrong answer to your problem after you enter a ticket on the web. Forget about actually talking to a person.
Don't waste your money on a RH distro thinking you are acutally going to get support from them.
I paid the big buck for the PRO version including the secure apache and priority support. I ran into a problem when configuring apache and opened up a ticket via the web site. Three days later I am still waiting for a response. Their priority support sucks bigh time. Thei docs are wrong too. I could go on and on but paying for a redhat distro is a waste of money if you ask me.
Yes if AOL is pissing you off you can go work for CNN. Oh wait a minute they are the same company maybe you can work for Time oops that wouln't work either.
Oh yea the corps have first amendment rights granted to them by the Supreme Court so it follows that they MUST have second amendment rights too. You can bet your ass they are going to raise armies soon.
"In the case of Christianity it's object, Jesus, isn't in his tomb. This was witnessed by over 500 people at the point in time that it happened"
Man are you stupid!. I don't think Budha is in his tomp either. In fact I don't think anybody who died two thousand years ago is in his tomb unless he was mummified by some process.
Where do you get this 500 witnesses crap anyway oh yea a two thousand year old book I forgot.
"You make it too onerous for them to seek legal redress, they will seek illegal means to do so. You will not want a rich man coming after you!"
I don't think asking the rich to pay for the opponents legal fees is onerous. It's a drop in the bucket for them. Also there is really nothing stopping the rich from killing you now. The rich don;t go to jail.
ESR specifically stated that he would not be giving money to charity except maybe if has to do with guns. I wouln't expect him to donate any money at all.
Obviously you don't remember 45s or singles. Once upon a time record companies sold vinyl with only two songs on them. A hit one one side and a "B" side containing a song they hoped would catch on. I guess history may be about to repeat itself.
Actually securityportal.com did a study on this and found out that security fixes for redhat and debian were released much faster then MS. Go root around their site for a file you should be able to find the article.
I think this is due to the fact that MS spends the first week of any discovery denying the thing exists or stating that it's irrelevant and Redhat just puts up the patch.
I don't think you will see it here. The media has too much power to saturate the airwaves and generate any kind of pulic reaction they want. The powe rthat the media has over the public is only dwarfed by the power the media has over the politicians. The pols NEED the media desperately will never ever cross them.
Think about it Coke spens millions of dollars every year trying to get you drink brown sugar water. Would they waste the money if it did not work? Media is very effective in making the public obey your wishes and nobody knows this more then the media moguls.
Oh uh an unintentional pun but very funny. In the case of ESR a piece is most likely a 9MM but in case of the others well.. Best not to speculate.
Re:Should be fun, but I still won't use it.

It sure is starting look like a very nice OS to me. Microkernel, bsd internals, very slick gui, native PDF support. I think it will finally make me buy a non intel machine.
Actually it's not TCO it's value that rules. Every business weighs the costs and the benefits and whichever product/service represents the highest value usually wins (even with PHBs making the decisions. Linux and Solaris represent a tremendous value and I predict that for the first time in the history of Microsoft a significant minority of the people who are running NT will NOT upgrade to W2K. I know that where I work we are in the process of wiping NT servers off one by one and replacing them with Linux.
Make no mistake about it. Corporattions are drawing a line in the sand with this move. The outcome of this battle will determine weather or not open source can survive. Hey where are our so-called leaders? ESR? Perens? Young? Torwalds? Augistine? your silence is defening. Speak now or forever hold your piece.

"In the end, I suggest people use the product for a change, and see for themselves that it is quite stable"
No thanks I have no desire to part with my hard earned money just to see if some OS is stable when I can get a stable OS for free.
I put a copy of atlas shrugged by the toilet.
I read it on the toilet every day.

It was rough and scratchy.

Were they hit? was MSN hit? why not?

I guess this is better then france declaring war on us. Oh wait a minute maybe not, they actually have billion to one chance of winning a lawsuit.

Sadly a lot of people think like this. Sure go ahead and strip rights from union members but don't come whining to me when come after your ass.

This happened to me too. It pissed me off cos like you I did not even tell it to install Gnome.
