    Most people will not be able to upgrade to Vista due to the obsurd hardware requirements it demands.

    Would you care to point out these "obsurd" hardware requirements demanded by Vista? Because last time I checked, the recommended hardware was just a couple steps up from XP, and the minimum was pretty much the same.

    There are very few good reasons for using ActiveX on pages. You've got Java, Flash and AJAX for interactivity

    Guess what? In IE, Java and Flash are ActiveX controls, and in IE6 so is the XmlHttpRequest that is the foundation for AJAX! You don't understand what ActiveX is.

    The browser is not preloaded with the OS. There is no IEXPLORE.EXE running when IE is not. Get over this myth.

    This proves that you don't understand what ActiveX really is. Flash in IE? ActiveX. Java in IE? ActiveX. ActiveX is nothing more than IE's plug-in system, so to say that it's "close to non-existent" on the public Internet is completely fallacious.

    I noticed that windowsfordevices.com (216.218.185.157) looks (as far as the website goes) almost identical to linuxdevices.com (216.218.185.154).

    Scroll to the bottom of both sites. Look in the bottom right corner. Notice a "Ziff Davis Media" logo on both sites. Lightbulb!

    I'll assume you're talking about servers, since that's what all this is about. And in that case, I'd have to guess that the number is damn near zero. Servers are one kind of computer that is always very easy to buy without an OS. Nobody in their right mind would pay for a Windows Server license, and then wipe it clean to install some free Linux distro.

    No, he's talking about XMLHttpRequest, which is a client-side feature that you clearly don't understand. And also, IIS has absolutely nothing to do with IE, so I don't even know why you're talking about it.

    The Internet isn't the only thing required for Live. There are the servers at Microsoft that run everything, as well as the code on the console and in the games that handles things on the client side. So it appears that your statement is actually horse shit.

    That doesn't change the fact that if Microsoft stopped supporting ActiveX, they'd have to write a whole new plug-in system for IE. It's not like you could just drop the Firefox version of Flash into IE and have it work.

    As for ActiveX, I don't think there aren't enough pages using ActiveX for Microsoft to even support it anymore.

    Was that a joke, or do you just have no idea what ActiveX really is? Just in case it's the latter, I'll give you a little information: ActiveX is IE's plug-in system. Things like Flash are ActiveX Controls within IE.

    I chose my wording carefully, and I stand by what I said. DVD ripping is not something that the vast majority of consumers do.

    Consumers will realize if they can't copy (to some other medium) or if either one angles them in DRM, that it just isn't worth it.

    Right, because consumers everywhere are copying DVDs to other mediums.

    With DVDs, you have NO (legal) ability to do anything with the DVD aside from playing it. With the new formats, they will have managed copy systems to allow some copying. So your argument makes absolutely no sense.

    Both Best Buy and CompUSA definitely carry SATA drives and cables in their stores. I would assume Future Shop is the same. You're obviously biased against these stores, but blatant lies aren't going to help your argument.

    Yahoo: 43.08%
    Google: 28.82%
    MSN: 21.04%

    Why is it so easy to patch these APIs?

    Because that's what Administrators are allowed to do. Run as root on Linux, and it would be just as simple to install a rootkit. If a user isn't running as an Administrator on Windows, the Sony rootkit will not install. There is no exploit being taken advantage of here.

    Of course, the answer is yes to both of those questions. I know we're talking about the big bad "M$" here, but come on. Do you think a few bucks from some spyware company would mean more to multi-billion dollar Microsoft, or small-time Lavasoft?
