you need IE to get the updates for IE. that's great, huh?
Actually, that's false. Haven't you ever heard of Automatic Update? It downloads updates for Windows and IE automatically, in the background. No browser needed.
this is the EXACT same argument against Firefox we've seen 80 million times on/., and every time we come to the same conclusion: even 50 patched security holes is better than 1 open one.
Oh, but it's OK to bring up IE's past security problems when you're arguing against it? I love the pure hypocrisy!
IMO, XM is the one with the better music. And on those music channels, they have no commercials, just like Sirius. Also, they have free Internet streaming for subscribers, just like Sirius. Please keep up with the facts. kthx.
Yes, it's less-Flashy than the old one, but it's still using Flash. And there are issues with the song title being out-of-sync, which is the only place they use Flash..
High quality is 64K and low quality is 32K. Just like before.

Dell hasn't used proprietary power supplies for a very long time. Get with the program.
I'm as anti-Open Source as they come, but come on man. Maybe if you actually secured your network properly, the students wouldn't be able to install the crapware in the first place?
Tell me, do they still filter results on subjects Microsoft considers sensetive?
I never heard of them doing it before, but I never used the old MSN search, so I can't really say. I've haven't run into anything that's censored on this new one.
If you know of something that used to be censored, try it out. I'd be interested in seeing the results.
Hell, my previous post applies to Yahoo Search as well. If you're going to be a Google zealot, at least try and make some points that are actually valid.
1. Check out MSN Search. Maybe not quite as simple as Google's, but it's far from complex. It also loads very quickly.
2. MSN Search has no graphical ads.
3. MSN Search separates the paid results just as clearly as Google does.
So, when was the last time you looked at MSN Search? Last year?
It's sitting there in C:\WINDOWS\system32 on my XP SP2 install, but it won't run if I double click it. It may work as a shell replacement for Explorer, but I've never tried it, and honestly don't see a reason to.
The first thing every Longhorn user will do it set the theme back to what it was in the first version of Windows that they ever used.
What the hell are you talking about? The first version of Windows I used was 3.1, and I'm using the XP interface now, and will be using the Longhorn interface when I upgrade to that.
The robots.txt file wouldn't help in this case because AFP doesn't control the sites it's news is put out on.
This lawsuit was not the first step in the process. AFP first asked Google nicely to remove their content. Google basically told them to fuck off, so this lawsuit is the result of that. Now that Google sees that AFP serious, Google is doing the right thing and taking down the content.
I said "kind of". I know that the technology is nothing like DSL and POTS on the same line, but it's the idea of the two services being on the same line, while still not affecting eachother.
The packets are separated within special VoIP modems. The VoIP stuff never goes through the Ethernet connection on the back of the modem, it stays inside. VoIP uses a separate DOCSIS channel altogether, completely bypassing the data. It's kind of like how DSL can run alongside regular telephone service.

Thank you for clarifying those numbers. I was about to start complaining, since I haven't RTFA yet.

Yes. NBC and CBS broadcast their HD in 1080i, and there are many others.

You can't just flash an MPEG-2 encoder and turn it into an MPEG-4 encoder. It doesn't work like that.
Plus, there's the issue that the HD Tivo can't handle Ka signals, so it wouldn't even be able to receive the MPEG-4 stream in the first place.
Bottom line: the current HD Tivo will not work with DirecTV's new HD rollout.
I'm sorry, what does that have to do with MSN Search? You think that they make up the results? Are you high?

Nope, I don't work for Microsoft. I just try to balance out the incredible anti-Microsoft bias on this site.

Apparently you missed the part where it says "Except as provided above", "above" being where it says that personal and non-commercial use is allowed.
How to look like a pedantic zealot in two little steps.
1. Pick out one tiny little piece of information that is almost inconsequential to the point of the post.
2. Look like an idiot because of step 1.
Actually, it's called "Google is ignoring the robots.txt file that is in place". Please do some research before you post.

Please, he's posting on Slashdot. He doesn't have a girlfriend!
The regular AIM client can do encryption as well. You don't need to use POS GAIM to do it.
Rhapsody - $10/month, unlimited downloads, and very easy to rip songs into any format you wish. Best of all, it's based in the US and perfectly legal.
