    if you wanted the tree type structure found in Windoze 2000 domain, simply look at Novell, and see that Microsoft stole this from them, and over complicated it.

    if you simply are talking about the fact that user data is stored in LDAP format on windows 2000 servers, then use a bloody linux box with OpenLDAP.

    Just a heads up, though - Windows servers are continually having exploits found in its buggy code..and the only way a Windoze sysadmin can fix them is by rebooting. I know that in my linux environments, we go for 5 9's. with Windoze, i'd be looking at 87% or something silly like that...

    *require* Windows servers (for one, we use Outlook for mail :(

    what does using Outlook have to do with having Windows as a Server?

    AFAIK you can use Outlook with any MTA....and Sendmail is relatively easy to setup, compared with Exchange...

    this sounds like a crock of shit (yes, im sure that sounds very "trollish"). the mold and casting I can understand, but, when it comes down to simple things like screwdrivers/normal wrenches/anything i have in my basement/etc and prices are sky high...i start to wonder.

    maybe, just maybe, the American people are witnessing one of the largest coverups in the history of mankind -- all the Army has to do is- buy a 4 dollar wrench, have the company invoice them for 400, now i have 396 to put in my bank account.....or even better, collectively put the money into an account, and build army protection bunkers miles beneath the earth when they start WW3.. damn..either i just ate some hash, or i'd be pretty good with the conspiracy theories....

    stealing means "removing", as in I stole your TV, and now you can't watch it.
    piracy means "copying", ie you copied my Britney Spears CD with the written consent of the RIAA or Major Publishing Label....(you didnt actually deprive Britney, or myself of using what is rightfully mine).

    with all of these solutions to spam..and all of the spam now flooding mail servers...

    isn't it time to change the specification (RFC) and possibly the manner in which our current system works? i haven't come up with anything yet, but surely there must be some sort of handshaking/secure type connection that could be used - - some sort of postage (free) that is encrypted into the mail, that states that it is genuine....kind of like the hologram on those windows cds...

    i dunno. file this story under redundant.

    these 10 digits represent your physical address in relation to the world. no need for the street name, city or anything else.
    (unless ofcourse, you live in an apartment, where you would probably put 8r4e3 u2i5k - apartment 10)

    cd-r format disc is a one-layered disc (AFAIK)
    DVD-R's are 4 layers(4gig, 1gig per layer), and this new tech is 11(or 9??).
    so... i dont understand what pit density is, but, it seems that the size of your data disc is dependent on the layers...

    ofcourse, i really have no idea. i just read this somewhere.

    there is a new technology available, that would allow you to share the bandwidth. I also hear that it is gaining speed in the marketplace. Token Ring is the technology of which I speak: just connect everyone through BNC, and on a Token Ring network, and voila!

    Now all that needs to happen is for Apple to go out and get a massive catalog of Indy music they can represent, give profits to the artists and kill the big record labels.

    this is funny AND true. ever stepped into the huge conglomerate music stores of late? same music they were selling last year, just with different band names, and song titles......

    The state of music today would certainly allow Indy to take over, just because of creativity alone. Apple would be wise to catalog Indy music. (and those profits of 100,000 would be ten fold.)

    you have to admit the irony on this one, though. i had to make a vain attempt to focus my eyes for longer than 2 seconds on his "text" in order to read it, albeit painfully.

    in this world of drive-thru banks, fastfood restaurants, 200 tv channels, and over the counter fast drug remedies, its all about what catches the eye in a matter of seconds....

    i've had both in Canada, and after constant cable problems in my new neighbourhood, we switched to teh 3 meg service provided by a company using leased lines from bell Canada.

    highspeed is necessary to transfer files from work to home, and vice versa, and unfortunately for a lot of slashdotters....DSL takes the cake. i can upload at almost 640kbps, and downloads top 340KBps.

    So, for any of you who are still deciding whether to switch, remember, even when the power goes out, your phone line is still on.
