    It's ironic that Microsoft provides that service for free, whereas Linux requires paying money.

    um, Redhat is free. unless you WANT to pay for a subscription. the only downside to the 'free' version of a subscription, are the 2 month intervaled, 5 question, questionnaire, which continues one's subscription.

    me thinks you not thinks too much. if everyone is for sale, how does anyone protest that the vote is fixed?

    simple: im paid an extra $10000 to look the other way. this allows me to finish the deck(finally!) or, renovate the kitchen, put sally through school, or just pay off some debts...

    buy the right people, and you have the situation the Americans find themselves in.

    i agree. who actually gives a damn if LInux takes Windows on the Desktop? I for one could really give a hoot, cause I use Linux everyday, and besides the odd quirk here and there, I am able to do exactly what I want with it.

    it may sound a bit "selfish", but I don't give a damn about converting the world. It makes me (and obviously all of you) very happy that it is open, relatively easy to use, and just plain geeky.

    for what it is worth, just my 2 cents.

    In other news: The UK government has decided that every British home will now be equiped with a video Camera to monitor the movements of its inhabitants, to ensure their personal safety. If people, in their own homes decide to make dangerous accusations towards other family members, they will be fined. Any heresy towards the current government in control, will NOT be tolerated, and will end up in a prison term, or the equivalent community service.

    hate to nitpick (or is it knitpick?), but this doesn't matter does it? especially if the code uses the hostname...

    infact, when I was learning about NTP(date) a little while back -- i found a few pages detailing Wisonsin's Uni as a good sync for your time....

    makes one wonder if the guys at Netgear read the same pages...and hardcoded it in ....

    true -- but hopefully the sysadmin that knows about packetfilters, also knows about keeping their systems current with patches. (yes, i will continue to dream.)

    what university do you attend that got the beat down?? U of T??? Silly Admins...time to get some experience for those CompSci majors--fire them.

    true, any admin that doesn't know about packet filter firewalls should be fired...
    --- but imagine when they catch the clown who spread/made the virus...he/she might be locked up for a while...

    the problem with the automatic updates, is that the funcitonality of software could change overnight, depending on who makes the changes. maybe Microsoft decides one evening that they don't like having a 'Start' button, and decide, for the good of the world, that it will now say 'Stop', and will be in the upper left corner, instead of lower left....

    the point is -- no one could stop it, and would be stuck with the change, even if the change wasn't desired or warranted....
