I just had an exam (last thursday) where they asked me for the time and space complexity of a load of algorithms. I put my hand up and asked if they meant time complexity for searching or insertion or what. The guy who wrote the exam had to come all the way up the exam room and replied "oh er well use your judgement".
It does indeed parallise very well. The trouble is that over the internet, bandwidth is probably going to be your problem.
Imagine a server that could compile kde in 1 second. But on a dialup it takes you 12 hours to get it there and another few hours to get the results back.:)
Talking about that... I was really annoyed by that episode where data played that guy at some logic game.
Data lost, and couldn't understand why. He (rightfully) came to the conclusion that it was a fault with his logic systems.
However the crew viewed this as 'sulking'. (What do you call it when you project human emotions on to other things, when the human emotions don't really exist?)
Data _should_- have either won or known that the game was one of chance, so he had a chance of winning, or known that it was too complex for him to analyse the whole situation and so could only give a best-effort try anyway.
There's quite a few episodes that I'm angry at like that..:)
I'm currently working on a tie of freecraft (warcraft 2 clone), freeciv, and the starcraft clone.
It's comming along quite well, with the underlying connection code just about done. I'm just doing it for a laugh, so I have no idea how well it will work. I won't put up any screenshots, cause last time I did I got lots of posts saying it looked crap:) Give it 2 months tho and it should be mostly done by then, with some good screenshots to show.
They could switch to attacking the people downloading the stuff. They bust a random load of people and make an example out of them. Just fine them say £1000 or so. I know that I would ban kazaa from all my computers if I knew that they were randomly fining people.
I thought they used solar power? Why would it cost anything to make them active all the time? Except I suppose for the dishes that recieve the signals... but surely that isn't much compared to the cost of putting up the thing in the first place.
For some reason distros don't tend to tell X the size of the monitor. X doesn't know that you have a 17" monitor, and so has no idea how big to make the fonts.
All you need to do is tell it. Measure the height and width of the viewable area on your screen in mm, and under the 'Section "Display"' in XF86Config-4, add "DisplaySize x y" with x and y being the width and height in mm. While you are at it, make sure you have 'Option "DPMS"' in there for power saving.
I haven't seen the said cartoon car, but who says it has to be heavy in the first place? It could just be light and really strong.

Just one quick point I forgot to make... Note that hardly any of viruses, worms, etc cause any real damage. Imagine the harm you could do if you really wanted. Imagine if code-red wiped the drive. Imagine if this SQL worm spread really slowly and randomly modified the SQL database. If it wasn't detected for ages, yet had slowly deteriated the database over a matter of months hence rendering backups next to worthless.

Even the script kiddies are, for the most part, pretty pissed off. I spent quite a fair amount of my childhood in script-kiddie chat rooms, and going out and meeting up. The majority (as in everyone that I've met) has always tried to be non-destructive. There was one kid who hacked a server and panicked when he didn't know how to fix up the logs and instead wipped the machine. He got shunned and banned from the chat rooms.
One reason, from a cold and practicle point of view, is that nobodies wants to piss off anyone important for fear of retribution, and plus the idea is to have servers that you can use to download stuff on, and use for private irc servers etc.
Doesn't answer your question sorry, but I just wanted to point out that even in the 'hacking' world people are pissed off and annoyed by this.
Probably. Or you could just find someone with the libraries and use that. All you are after is the codecs. You could always install it, copy over the codecs, and delete it again:)
May I ask.. does netbsd come with everything like kde3 etc? Also how would you rate all the gnu-tool equivalents? I mean, don't they have their own version of things like even "ls" ?
It said that it can't do untethered flight because the insurance would go way up. Also they haven't yet tried any manned flights for the same reason.
What they want is for someone to fly it. They are banking on that someone who pays $1m for a flying car is actually going to want to use it. Then they just check the darwin awards every day to see how long it lasts...:)
> Anyone ever spit (or put snow) on a hot stove?
Don't do this! I've been fired twice for doing that. Same thing happens when you spit in the chip frier, and even the hamburgers.
Don't forget its own 300W power supply and cooling system.
It's worse than that.

Jeez.

Where n=files or n=lines of code, or what?
Have you got a reference to this?
Riiiiight. .. 10 million lines of code isn't it now?
How long do you think it takes to compile windows, with it's
I think it's cool.
:)
I remember when was I younger I had to stop coding for almost year when my power supply blew and I couldn't afford another one...
It put me behind my classmates (the good ones that is) - a year of knowledge is quite a lot
Talking about that...

You blew the deliver guy?
Now _that_ should be modded as a troll.
Just kidding just kidding...

I was searching for porn, "bush" wouldn't be the first word to pop into my head..
Now that would be cool.. rearrange all the cars into a nice pattern..
Course you'd probably have to set fire to them to get a helicopter to fly over and look at it to notice...
I thought they used solar power? Why would it cost anything to make them active all the time?

That is nothing compared to what would happen if all their data was lost. Irrecoverably.

They are selling it as a sort of piece of history in the making.
If they improved it then sold it, it wouldn't be the first version, now would it?
Personally I think it's all about insurance.

mplayer plays them. I know, I just tried.
You might need to compile it in tho.
