The point of the article is that there is a whole other sense that is being far to underutilized in computing. Not just in debugging, but everywhere. I once read an article about listening to DoS attacks and other hacks as they are happening - why couldn't you listen for bugs? Once you become experienced enough, you can follow the code and know when something is out of step.
I think it would actually be more useful if you could set auditory points - like breakpoints but with particular sounds - in the code. Another suggestion would be to group the sounds together by instrument or whatever and be able to turn parts of that orchestra off.
My concern would be debugging a multi-threaded app - yikes! Talk about a need for thread synchronization...
I've been at sea with laptops and desktop machines. The only thing we've ever had to worry about is securing the machines so that they aren't tossed about (especially the monitors). Of course, if you have them on deck and there is a chance of spray, then I guess you'd have to waterproof them.
# G++ now supports the "named return value optimization": for code like
A f () {
A a;...
return a;
}
G++ will allocate 'a' in the return value slot, so that the return becomes a no-op. For this to work, all return statements in the function must return the same variable.
This is a wonderful thing, but does this go against the C or C++ specification?
Comets travel much faster than asteroids in general. They have a highly elliptical orbit and (according to Kepler) they will be moving faster the closer they are to the sun.
I was born into a Christian home and I'm glad to say that I'm now free (as an agnostic). Religion is nothing but a social disease that preys on the weak minded and weak spirited and is propagated through fear and inheritance.
I just want to know where in the hell can I buy a replacement IR tower. Any clues out there? I emailed Lego themselves and they just dropped communication after I said that I was a linux user and didn't want to go through debugging their POS windows software. I know the tower is bad... now just sell me a new one goddammit!!!!!
I am not a stupid end user and don't call me Shirley.
I know I'm a dork for replying to my own comment, but...
This sounds like the ideal way to conduct some sort of Turing Test. Have 1000 AI Bots thrown in the mix and randomly connect kids and bots together to chat.
I'm holding out for a combination CD player/ripper/MP3 player. I've seen the CD and MP3 player combo, but I've never seen one that could rip the CD directly into the MP3 player.
On top of that, a burner would be nice too. God, that would be a portable CD copying device. Bet some people would have a problem with that.
Have you ever been sick, like had a cold? If so, then you have already had your body hacked.
One day we won't have bodies like ours. We'll in a sense be immortal. We'll have dumped our organic origins for something better. Something that doesn't require as much upkeep. A large portion of what we percieve to be our world won't be real anyway - we'll be interacting through virtual worlds. One day, some people may choose not to have a physical manifestation. They'll live their lives completely in a virtual universe.
I only hope I'm around when they start uploading consciousness into hardware.
My guess would be that the shutter speed would have to be so fast that it is currently impossible.
oh goddammit!

Maybe someday we'll have tactile debuggers

By the way, the coolest ride I took was on this.
I noticed that they have added this optimization:

The more important issue is if man can tell the difference. A.I. will be successful if man cannot tell the difference.
My money's on someone getting sea monkeys in there first.
/me notes the logo at the top left of the Forget press release is a GIF
My grandmother likes Bawls
Or even stockholders of the AV companies ;)
All I see is the giant light display used in "Close Encounters".
Ok now give me a have quaver followed by two full quavers...

Would the nitrogen bucky-ball be called a nucky-ball - or better yet a nooky-bally?
Woo hoo - one step closer to the Grey Goo end of the world. Just more proof that Mars needs women.
Hey, 'bout time we saw some insect action on the Spice Channel!
Sounds like the bastard child of an Ipod and a wireless NIC card.
Yay pig stomachs!
/me is off to soma-holiday

Why not? Better yet, search for intelligent life at home :)
It would be sooooo cool to have something like this. Now if I could just get my keyboard hooked up too.
Resistance is Futile!
