  1. Speaking of loving your country.......

General Gordon, the Confederate commander, used to tell the following story: He was sitting by the roadside one blazing hot day when a dilapidated soldier, his clothing in rags, a shoe lacking, his head bandaged, and his arm in a sling, passed him. He was soliloquizing in this manner:

"I love my country. I'd fight for my country. I'd starve and go thirsty for my country. I'd die for my country. But if ever this damn war is over, I'll never love another country again!"

  2. Stop trying to rewrite history. The Clinton impeachment attempt was based on his perjury.

Oh, well that makes Newt's hypocritical philandering okay then. Never mind!

I'll leave you with these little Newt-Nuggets of wisdom:

“The idea that a congressman would be tainted by accepting money from private industry or private sources is essentially a socialist argument.” ~Newt Gingrich

“She isn’t young enough or pretty enough to be the President’s wife.” ~Newt Gingrich, talking about his first wife after divorcing her.

“Give the park police more ammo.” ~Newt Gingrich, responding to a reporter who asked what to do about the homeless a few days after the police shot a homeless man in front of the White House.

  3. What a retard. How do these people even get into government?

People fall for their bullshit and vote them into office. That's how it happens.

And, to top it off, he was having the affair while he was trying to impeach Bill Clinton for.....having an affair. No hypocrisy there, no siree.

Yes, I have actually read a fair amount about her out of morbid curiosity.

but did read up on her after her seeing russia.

That's not what she said. She said basically that "parts of Russia can be seen from Alaska", and that is correct. You can see parts of Russia from locations in Alaska.

    -

She isn't as stupid as the media latched on to.

You're right- she's even stupider than they make her out to be.

The number of utterly imbecilic things she's said coupled with her lunatic-fringe fundamentalist mindset AND her delusional belief that she was remotely qualified to be the Vice President make her a walking target for any comedian who isn't in a coma.

It's marketing speak.....it doesn't 'require' any batteries because it's already got one.

Of course it needs a battery to work, it just doesn't require one yet, ergo it "doesn't require any batteries".

  9. "Artist Dennis Cooper has a big problem on his hands: Most of his artwork from the past 14 years just disappeared. It's gone because it was kept entirely on his blog, which the experimental author and artist has maintained on the Google-owned platform Blogger since 2002 "

At the very least make some fucking backups once in a while, but depending on online services is just a bad idea in the long run.

  10. Big deal, Chrome probably does the same thing, only with the endpoint being at a server Google owns.

And Win 10 with Edge? If you think that thing doesn't ship data by the borkload back to the lads at Redmond, then you're very, very naive. They even tell you it's shipping data back, except it's the browser AND the OS. I doubt you could so much as move the mouse without Microsoft knowing it.

I might waive the policy provision for a suitable amount of cash, plus handling fees, restocking costs, etc etc. A cool million or two ought to cover it.

  15. I'm guessing his point was that verbing weirds language.

Yes, it's weirding the language to verb words so cromulently, without the slightest omnestration.

  16. There's already a perfectly good word: "incited".

"Incite" has nothing to do with "incentives" or anything even remotely close. I do not think that word means what you think that word means.

Sadly, "incentivized" has crept into the vocabulary due to the efforts of marketers, and I wish they would all die in a fire. Yes, it's a word, but it's not a good word.

  17. I have a Prime subscription... I looked though literally hundreds upon hundreds of "Prime" deals but found almost nothing that interested me. Nothing that caused me to push the "Buy" button, anyway.

I did buy something yesterday but it's the kind of thing I was going to buy regardless, the much-hyped Prime thing wasn't a factor.

"Much ado about nothing" in my opinion.

  19. Can you be sure that updates are really "off" short of unplugging your computer from the internet? I mean, this is Microsoft we're talking about, and you are clearly more cynical towards them than I.

No, I can't be 100% sure, but none of us can regardless of the OS we use, right? I've mostly switched over to Linux Mint so the whole Microsoft thing isn't a big deal for me, but honestly, how do I know Mint is doing stuff in the background that I'm not aware of?

It'll be even less sure what Microsoft is doing behind your back in Windows 10....the stuff they've publicly admitted to is bad enough. God only knows what other goodies they have in store or will decide to do during their hourly stealth updates.

  21. What are you expecting?

And assuming I'm wrong and they block you from your work on your currently purchased copy of Windows 10, what's to stop them from also taking over Windows 7 and 8?

I dunno...the the fact that I can turn updates off if I choose to?

    -

I mean, if you want to believe that Microsoft has evil plans, where do you draw the line?

I don't want to believe that, it's the conclusion I'm forced to draw after watching their behavior for the last 20 years or so. As far as me drawing the line, that's really up to them, based on what they do.

    -

How evil do you expect them to be?

As evil as they can be and still get away with it. Based on their past performance, I would expect nothing less.

  22. Yeah, I read the article, and wow, what a bunch of mealy mouthed techbro gobbledygook. Just say what you fucking mean for once, instead of constantly inventing new terms for everything.

  24. Naturally, all it really did was rename your files, hide them, and write a one-byte "archive file" in their places.
