  1. It was damn annoying since it made the phone only useful for them

Yeah, it's so damn annoying when other people live their lives the way they want to and don't make themselves available to you on a whim, 24/7.

Seriously, who should the phone be useful to if not them? You sound outraged that they're doing what they want, the way they want.

Whether Amazon says so or not, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Echo has been tapped. These days I'd be more surprised if it hadn't been. Think about it- the opportunity to eavesdrop on millions of people, with Amazon providing the hardware. What's not to like about that?

I can also give it to someone else, I can loan it out indefinitely, or I can resell it if I want. Can't do those things with iTunes downloads.

Of course, when that happens, John Deere will have fewer customers, thus less demand. Boo hoo. Maybe they shouldn't have concocted such a fucked-up business model and then they wouldn't be facing these problems. Trying to lock your customers in against their will is almost never a good idea.

I'll cry no tears if John Deere suffers because they wouldn't allow the people that owned their own fucking tractors to fix them.

Watching the green screen show reels on Youtube has ruined it for me. I still enjoy the movie (usually) but deep down I know they're almost never actually on location or even on a stage set...they're just in a big green room and everything is filled in later.
