  1. It will only temporarily be an expensive thing, if it even is. Mass demand and production will make the price drop rapidly.

Yeah, just like owning Teslas and Learjets and mansions, the price will come down until every bum and ne'er-do-well will be awash in them.

Sorry, but I think the idea of "a cabal of ultra rich hogging it eternally for themselves" is far more likely than every Joe and Jane Sixpack having access to it. Most people can't afford a hip-replacement, what's the chance of them being able to pay for life extension treatments?

Not to further the argument, but you labeled yourself "progressive left" and thus generalized your own ideologies. I only asked those questions to clarify your stance, for my benefit.

That's why I said it's not that simple. Some people I know (most) would consider me "left", while some others (not many) would label me as borderline conservative. It all depends on how well they think I line up with their definitions and ideology and what topic is under discussion.

One man's liberal is another man's socialist, and a third man's conservative. It's often relative depending on where the definer is on that spectrum. Hell, I've been labeled a "fascist" by more than a few people in my life because I didn't march in lockstep with their notions of right and wrong.

Really? A "misunderstanding by officers"? You gonna stick with that answer?

Because when *I* break the law I don't get a pass because I "misunderstood" something. I mean, isn't it the police and judges who are the first to exclaim that "ignorance of the law is no excuse"?

I'm sure they'll pay back all of the people they wrongly ticketed, and with interest too. (Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, who am I kidding!)

  5. Are you going to pay your your downloaded great -great-grandmother to exist in the Immortality Net?

I doubt I'd cough up the money for my own mother, frankly.

Also, how many generations back are you going to pay for people who have little to nothing in common with you beside some DNA?

For example, I doubt my great-great-great-great-grandfather and I would have a single common point of reference for anything.

And the same goes for my great-great-great-great-grandchild. I'd be as alien to them as a creature from deep within the Magellanic Cloud.

Yeah, well, basically the problem here is that lots of people don't fit neatly into whatever you imagine a "progressive leftist" is, so you're left to try and contort the meaning to match however you currently define it.

    It ain't that simple.

You seem to have conveniently overlooked the fact that I answered "no" to your first question. OMG does that mean I'm not a "progressive leftist" after all?

Finally, thinking that there ought to be some sort of support services for mentally ill or distraught people does not equate to being a "progressive" or a "leftist". You're simplifying things to the point of silliness. Lots and LOTS of "conservatives" would be just fine with the idea of support services being available for suicidal people.

Should there have been some sort of resources available for this woman to get help if she wanted it? Sure, I see nothing wrong with making something like that available to those who want it (and there are in fact probably some already existing resources she could have used if she wanted to).
