    This is a ~10 year old vulnerability in DCOM.
    Corporate neglagence is still a crime. and Corporations are Individuals, therefore Microsoft, Inc. Should be incarcerated.

    Netscape isn't really the point. Mozilla is. and I currently use mozilla as my primary browser. It has tabs, much better implemented than konqueror. It works on all the platforms I use, so I don't need a different set of keystrokes and menus on each machine. The mail program is better than anything else which doesn't cost money, and arguably better than many that do.
    Netscape comes bundled with AIM, but besides that is more or less identicle to mozilla. Firing netscape coders translates to firing mozilla coders.

    Why is this newsworthy?
    When IBM releases a new version of Domino, is there a posting on slashdot?
    It is HIGHLY probable that more of Us(tm) have to deal with things like Domino, or Oracle AS, or what-have-you, then some consumer level video editing program.
    So what? Apple released, no wait, is GOING TO release a new version of Final Cut.
    Did you hear that SUN is going to "ignite" the "Adrenaline Rush" in "Java Technology" based games? Well I hope you didn't hear it on slashdot.
    What the fuck? since when are press releases newsworthy? Surely when they relate to the geek population. How many video editors do you know who read slashdot? no, really. I know 0
    I know 10 IT guys, 2 IT managers, and 4 programmers who read slashdot. They don't give a DAMN about some piece of software that they'll never use.

    Motorola has been driving themselves very very deep into the embedded market. They're making the Motorola PowerPC into a chip for cars, phones, handhelds, refridgerators, etcetera, ad nausium

    IBM is moving in the other direction, which is frankly the direction that apple NEEDS to go if they want to compete and keep this architecture.

    They're planning on keeping this architecture.

    just FYI
    It's basically the 'killer app' that's keeping me on linux... I can run Xchat, Gaim, Phoenix (or whatever it's called now), ZINF, etc, ad nausium. Putty is actually a better terminal than many of the linux ones, and I can do most of my development on a shell into another box. Windows is Free, and so is Linux. The only differences are (a) Xwin32 is much harder to crack than Xfree86 and (b) windows's Window Managment SUCKS.

    I use a keyboard from Focus Electronic called the FK-8200
    I sincerly regret not waiting for the FK-9200 to become available, since it has a trackball in the center of the keyboard.
    This keyboard is great.. it has a built in calculator, a clock with batteries for when the machine is off, and 12 macro keys that can be mapped to just about anything..

    There isn't a posting when someone writes a linux patch that fixes bug 1032321131 or a posting when freebsd releases a fix for thier emu10k1 code, or when Microsoft releases a patch that fixes windows hanging when attached to a APC 5000 UPS
    Why is apple different?

    A license to the UNIX source code, which (see above) Novell granted SCO an exclusive license to sell.
    Apparently they have some product in the pipeline which would be easier to create with the unix source... probably interoperability or that text-mode windows server we were hearing about

    While this may be true, any and all complaints against the distributors and users of linux is completely and utterly shot down. They also can't even ask for the offending code to be removed, since they don't own the patents or copyrights to it.

    This is ASTOUNDINGLY easy in UNIX systems

    heh, ever thought of reading the ads on slashdot? They're right there across the top of the screen!
    well some of the advertizers, ServerBeach comes to mind, will give you a complete machine, with a 60 gig drive for 99 dollars per month (450 gb transfer)
    this machine can also be used for things like mail, ftp, or whatever
    99x12=1188/60=19.8 per gb per year
    and that's not just disk space

    I don't see any references to writing.

    I don't tihnk anyone can write to these damn things...

    *shrug* basically, I don't see any reason to run a secure OS (openbsd) on the same machine as -blech- windows, so this has very little use (ie, moving a drive to another machine when the original machine can't read it, etc)

    I think the odds against this are staggering, since a game with 5 years of development is going to have higher expectations than anything up to but excluding Master of Orion 3.

    how about filtering the mail client side?

    For outlook users, i recommend Spammunition and I just use mozilla's spam filtering, which works great.

    AFAIK there was a AMD embedded 486 in the original AirPort, and Apple is working with AMD on HyperX pci or some such, and so on and so forth

    By the way, samsung has actually had a wristwatch phone for a long time - since 1999. I think it's been available for sale in limited quantities in korea, but I can't verify it and the page on samsung's site that said so seems to be gone.

    it has 802.11b, which, iirc, requires more silicon than GRPS.
