if the opteron is NOT all its hyped up to be, I'm never buying another x86 again.
It's a 20 year old architecture with backwards compatibility to 20 year old applications
The last time there was a major instruction set update was the Pentium Pro
If the Alpha was brought to todays manufacturing methods, it would still be the fastest chip on the planet. As it stands, I have high hopes for the Itanium, but I haven't seen much to impress me:-(
Maybe that new beastly chip from IBM will be as impressive as it needs to be...
Maybe
I haven't tried the hosted option, but I tried installing it locally... Granted that its not certified on the platform I was trying (redhat 8.0), I find it hard to believe that AS2.1 is SO different that it wouldn't go through the installation... Lots of fun if you have a month to spend on it
I don't see any other problem with this, besides the fact that Mozilla is already a 12 meg download that is 49 megs in memory+47 megs in swap (on my machine, one browser window with 4 tabs, one mail window, running on w2k), and needs to slimmed down rather than bloated even more every other feature in mozilla can be turned off, I don't worry too much about that
no no, its Howdy, this is america coming. We'd like you to be aware that releasing the rabid beast "Ashcroft" is a criminal terrorist offense, punishible as high treason by the war tribunal...
"My" first PC was purchased at best buy and well, it was not that great of a machine. I exercized the warrenty several times, by the time it expired I was working on a machine I had built, which had much less problems, and took much less time to fix... For example one time the CPU in my Acer (from Best Buy) died as a result of the fan getting too much dust... I went to best buy with the tower and told them I need a new processor and fan... They sent it to some service shop and I didn't get it back for 3 weeks
By contrast my current machine is an Athlon-based Beast purchased entirely at newegg... I fried the CPU once (it's covered for a year), I shipped them the dead one, they shipped me the new one... less than a week before I was back up. In short its not that I think the warrenties aren't worthwhile as much as I think the computers at Best Buy aren't worthwhile...
I always thought syslogd could do this over SNMP... that is transport all your logs to your workstation or something I'm not sure if I'm bullshitting or not:-) I'm likely misinformed
Naw... I mean, its only using some network transparent model optimized for terminals on a mainframe.... and it has ugly ass fonts... and it has shit write to hardware through TCP ports... and...
I was wondering if its possible to push aqua applications into X, because I really like my window manager (ion) and it would be a shame to have to buy another intel as my next computer
Servers should do backchecks to see if someone is running an open relay and refuse to offer services if they do.
one of many solutions to the biggest problem in the world. And don't give me shit about famine and war and such, you know death isn't nearly as annoying as spam
He makes a good point. I don't see any posts before this one that make it Maybe -YOU- (whoever mod'd this redundant) are using some sort of SuperModerator View Mode where you see invisible posts.
these babies are 50 mhz PPCs with 4 megs of ram and 16 megs of flash they have an ethernet port (rj45) and a DSL port (rj11) and a USB port I'm not sure if I can add more capacity, and I won't check until the thing stops working:-( LinuxPPC:-)
Agreed, Why upgrade SOFTWARE when you're having trouble finding PARTS like, seriously in regards to what appears to be your sig: Linux has a zero price and x preformance, where X is dependant on your applicaton of linux, hardware, etc. Windows has a X price and 0 preformance, where X is dependant on the vendor so Windows Price over Preformance: Error, Divide by 0
this was kinda long, so I'm gonna link to the original and quote some choice passages...
there is some more ranting on the subject on the UT2k3 release day "when I go out and buy your Goddamned game, and you proceed to rob me of my time and clock cycles with copy protection schemes you imagine secure your bottom line, please let me assure you with the utmost gravity that you are living in a fantasy world. You might as well be drinking fairy wine out of an acorn cap, discussing the finer points of Gryphon Husbandry with their comely queen. The only people these Goddamn mechanisms of yours screw are paying customers, because people who just want to steal your game have always had very easy time of it. You are credulous in the extreme if you perceive otherwise. Put it out of your mind. I said, put it out of your mind." "There's a halfway house for retardeds like you right across the street from me, you'd love it. They just circle the block, singing songs and drinking Pepsi. Sometimes, they lay by the tree and drink the Pepsi. I never see anybody drinking anything else over there, maybe you get in trouble. It's either that, or Pepsi sponsors congenital defects."
A mobile home. with 2 x86 desktops, a g4, and a Ultra10, all hooked up to a nice KVM
Linux/Win2k/OsX/Solaris
a single screen (KVM) and it doesn't need much power
(bullshit link)
This is a vote to remove the AC

Wasn't HP supporting Debian before?
Its far superior...
not to gentoo, but definatly to anything RPM-based
he specifically mentions the conversion of a flock of birds to sounds

a 1 gig flash card is limited by your USB speeds
a 1 gig flash drive is limited by your system bus speeds
the drives are MUCH faster
I requested this at IBM's PPC booth at linux world in JANUARY ;-)
what took them so long
dammit. it won't let me post this short a message. damn lameness filter
