    if the opteron is NOT all its hyped up to be, I'm never buying another x86 again.

    It's a 20 year old architecture with backwards compatibility to 20 year old applications

    The last time there was a major instruction set update was the Pentium Pro
    If the Alpha was brought to todays manufacturing methods, it would still be the fastest chip on the planet. As it stands, I have high hopes for the Itanium, but I haven't seen much to impress me :-(
    Maybe that new beastly chip from IBM will be as impressive as it needs to be ... Maybe

    I haven't tried the hosted option, but I tried installing it locally...
    Granted that its not certified on the platform I was trying (redhat 8.0), I find it hard to believe that AS2.1 is SO different that it wouldn't go through the installation...
    Lots of fun if you have a month to spend on it

    I don't see any other problem with this, besides the fact that Mozilla is already a 12 meg download that is 49 megs in memory+47 megs in swap (on my machine, one browser window with 4 tabs, one mail window, running on w2k), and needs to slimmed down rather than bloated even more
    every other feature in mozilla can be turned off, I don't worry too much about that

    "My" first PC was purchased at best buy and well, it was not that great of a machine. I exercized the warrenty several times, by the time it expired I was working on a machine I had built, which had much less problems, and took much less time to fix...
    For example one time the CPU in my Acer (from Best Buy) died as a result of the fan getting too much dust...
    I went to best buy with the tower and told them I need a new processor and fan... They sent it to some service shop and I didn't get it back for 3 weeks

    By contrast my current machine is an Athlon-based Beast purchased entirely at newegg... I fried the CPU once (it's covered for a year), I shipped them the dead one, they shipped me the new one... less than a week before I was back up.
    In short its not that I think the warrenties aren't worthwhile as much as I think the computers at Best Buy aren't worthwhile...

    these babies are 50 mhz PPCs with 4 megs of ram and 16 megs of flash
    they have an ethernet port (rj45) and a DSL port (rj11) and a USB port
    I'm not sure if I can add more capacity, and I won't check until the thing stops working :-(

    Linux has a zero price and x preformance, where X is dependant on your applicaton of linux, hardware, etc.
    Windows has a X price and 0 preformance, where X is dependant on the vendor
    so
    Windows Price over Preformance: Error, Divide by 0

    Linux/Win2k/OsX/Solaris
    a single screen (KVM) and it doesn't need much power
