Umm... I don't think that Sun's "Java Desktop" has been based on CDE for some time now. I do believe that it's Gnome, not CDE, that you're looking at....mostly:-)
Logically (and physically), there are more bottlenecks in the Quad single-core system. It's easier to route highspeed connections on silicon, than it is on the motherboard.
Placing more cores on a single piece of silicon will make boards less complex and reduce the bottlenecks of today's systems...
Sure bandwidth will...eventually...be ubiquitous and plentiful, but we've a ways to go before we'll be streaming MPEG2 at DVD speeds over the typical broadband link.
Sure MPEG4, H.264 and other standards will make it possible to cram more into less bandwidth, but we've got a few years before FTTH (Fiber to the Home) makes this a true possibility. Or, perhaps, Wimax will make it there first? I'm not counting on the telcos, in the US, to expand the bandwidth they provide, significantly, in the near future...that's for sure!!!
Agreed. I've often thought that the "Captains" of tech. industry are little more than engineers who can't design or business grads. who couldn't excel in finance.
I worked for National Semiconductor when Brian Halla joined the company. As a matter of fact, my first day at National was the same as his...
He was supposed to turn the company around and make it more on par with Intel. What has he succeeded in doing? Umm... let's just say the whole "information appliance" vision (for National) has failed and the company is "refocusing" on its core analog (primarily power management) business.
Personally, I think his performance has been even worse than Carly's.
What really irks me, though, is the fact that these "leaders" walk away with millions from the company they raped, when they fail. Jeez! Would I ever like to have a job like that!
I wouldn't call him a communist. The culture of Microsoft look like a cult, to me.
The truth is if he/M$ hadn't been pressured by the quality of open source alternatives, we'd still be dealing with frequent BSODs and.... well, I guess we still have to deal with them, but they're aren't as frequent.
The point is, someone (or something) has to keep M$ honest and, with their penchant for unfair business practices, open source is one thing they can't wrap their grimy paws (or sceevy minds) around....yet.
...even if he, successfully, passes the legislation.
In my personal experience, the more you try to control this age group, the more they will rebel. My prediction is that soon after said legislation would pass, record number of teen "mature video game players" would appear in Illinois.
Besides, compared to alcohol and drugs, I think that video games are pretty tame... don't you??
I would take the opposite approach, if I were a hiring manager. Personally, I think that those people who have experience in a variety of fields tend to be able to tackle more tasks.
Then again, I'm not a hiring manager...and don't know that I ever will be.:-)
Just because the OS is stable, doesn't mean the application is:-)
If you're upgrading from a much older (say Preview Release) version of Firefox, it could be that some remnants (in your "profile" directory) are causing problems with the new version. I've had more luck "upgrading" on Windows than Linux/UNIX... OS X is based on FreeBSD, so it's likely to have the same structure as the other Unices...
Just to be clear, LookOut allows you to search any directory on your Hard Drive, in all of the typical "MS like" documents (Word, Excel, etc. -- perhaps, even Firefox files??) and text files. From what I've seen, searching is *much* faster than Google Desktop, though indexing does tend to eat up a bit more CPU than I'd like...
All-in-all, it made Outlook much less painful for me to use...
While I'm certainly an advocate of playing it safe with the environment, I do, however, understand the point(s) of those that don't subscribe to the global warming theory.
In truth, we don't have enough data, from our past, to understand whether our climatic changes are just brief glitches or undeniable trends.
Any time I see more "order enforcing" laws come into effect, I'm reminded of my favorite Thomas Jefferson quote:
"A society that will trade a little liberty for a little order, will lose both and deserve neither."
I just wish that fear didn't still have such a grip on this country! Unfortunately, largely because of fear, we have to deal with another 4 years of Cheney/Bush... I just hope that Bush has the sense to "clean house" with his cabinet! Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, and Wolfowitz come to mind...
The Bush administration has grown not only the deficit to ridiculous sizes, but also the government, itself. Another bureaucracy is just what is needed to keep this country safe... Right!
So much for the "moderate" conservative that I voted for in 2000! I think I'll vote for the Democrats this time. At least, I know where they stand!
Why couldn't they just use booster rockets to handle the "high gravity" moments (escaping Earth's atmosphere...)? Isn't that, for the most part, what is done with today's Shuttle?
If the vehicle in question is too large, then it needs to be build in space, anyway.
Personally, I'm much more concerned with my civil liberties than "feeling safe". The "Patriot Act" (oxymoronic, eh...) is an abomination and Ashcroft still wants more. Powell (FCC Chair not SoS) has made a mess of the communications market.... and Cheney is about as sceevy as an individual can get. No kickbacks from Halliburton... Right. Just like he thought there was no price fixing during the Cali. power crisis a few years back!
The only thing that the current administration is good at doing is "playing moderate" leading up to elections. I think the political pendulum is *wayyy* too far to the right and will be voting to correct that!
First off, I'm married, live in Silicon Valley, and have 3 kids, a solid job and a good life. All of which is being threatened by the current administration, in more ways than one.
Hmmm... see you still like to live behind the A.C. shield. Grow some testicles...you moron! Mine have already been proven to function just fine:-)
Cheers,
Hawkeye...
P.S.: What ethics? The same "ethics" that Cheney displays when he states that there was no collusion during the Cali. power "crisis"... (later to be proven *wrong*, by a federal judge *and* his own administration!) Be careful who you support and/or believe is ethical.
Politicians will be politicians... I just can't stand for four more years of Bush and worse...Cheney and his band of "neo-conservatives". Give me a break...please!
I think this article is crap, but I can't condone the stupidity and lack of vision that this administration has shown.
I'll be voting for Kerry, not because I think he's great, but because I think he's *less* dangerous than the current administration!
Thanks A.C.! I'll be remembering you when I proudly cast my vote for Kerry!!!
Anything's got to be better than the ignoramous we now have for a president. He is a puppet for Cheney and his "neo-conservative" cronies, and little else.
Quite obviously, you have zero idea what impact this administration's decisions have had around the world. Bush has, literally, turned a positive world view into one that is, most definitely, negative... not many men could be that incompetent, but, then again, this is coming from a man that has failed at just about every task he's undertaken, in his entire life.
One more thing...If you, actually, want people to take your posts seriously, trying posting as something other than A.C....A.C.!!!
1. Not as good with OpenGL apps. 2. No support for 64-bit drivers, period, let alone Linux 64-bit.....as a side note, my personal opinion is that ATI's Linux drivers tend to trail the Windows drivers.

P.S.: I don't think I'd buy another 0.13um based GPU.... Those power numbers suck, for both ATI and NVidia! My FX5900 is bad enough!
I seem to recall a movie along these lines. Only, instead of arrogrant leaders of nations, it was arrogant leaders of companies which were oppressing the "every day man"...
It would be truly sad if this were *not* a joke...

Why not try posting with a real name? Or, did you already get banned that way?

FPGAs are based (mostly) based upon SRAM. Doesn't this offer the potential of drastically increasing the size/complexity of FPGAs?
Seems to me that it does.

I prefer the Firefox extensions.
Gmail Notifier:

Web Mail Compose:

In my opinion, they offer a better solution.

The DOD might be stringent in its requirements, but I can't imagine any one group being more strict that the FAA.
*Every* bit of code must adhere to certain syntax standards and be tested thoroughly (100% code coverage)...
Not easy to do this, but would be "do"able with a stripped down Linux.
