  1. Re:Simple, they want the best, we want the values. on NTT DoCoMo's 4G Tests Hit 300Mbps · · Score: 1

It seems to me that in the US a lot of the reason we don't have the coolest phones is because the phones are locked to providers. Therefore, the providers have to "offer" phones to their users and companies can't just come out with some cool phone and release it to the masses. Having everything go through the providers slows the market for mobile phones (it's sort of like government regulation, but it is corporate regulation).

  2. TAX GAS!!! on The End of the Oil Age · · Score: 1
The best way to curb the demand for oil and promote innovation in oil alternatives is to tell the world's energy markets that the "externalities" of oil consumption--security considerations and environmental issues alike--really will influence policy from now on. And the way to do that is to impose a gradually rising gasoline tax.

This is so correct. The way to get off of oil is to use make the market for energy work efficiently. All the costs of using the oil should be reflected in the cost at the pump. We should try to estimate the true cost of oil and build it into prices through taxes. This cost should include military costs for stabilizing oil producing nations. It should also include enviromental costs (although this is very hard to quantify). I think that it should also cover road repair and infrastructure maintence costs. (Shouldn't the people who use the roads most pay most for the repairs?)

This would actually make consumers decide if it is really worth it to drive that big car. It will work a lot better than just trying to make people guilty about driving SUVs. Make the price of the product reflect the true cost and the market will work itself out.

  3. The real use for this thing on New Sharp AQUOS Cordless LCD TVs · · Score: 1

Many people have said, "I don't see the point." The point is that you could have a TV hanging on the wall like a picture (maybe even framed) without wires running to it. To do this cleanly with wires you would have to cut a hole in the wall and snake some wires behind the wall board. Not all that fun for most normal consumers!

  5. Re:We have technology to build teleported right no on A Timeline of the Future · · Score: 1
With tax cuts going on right now, and about 70 percent of all our tax dollars maybe 80 percent now that Bush is president and 911 happened, all going to the Military, and very little going to science, its not that technology doesnt exsist today, its just too expensive to bring out of the lab.

Ummm, most (or at least a lot of) of the cool technology we have today comes from Defense Dept funded research. Computing, communication, and transportation breakthroughs are often in the hands of defense or intelligence before the general public. The space program also brings advances, but the line between "space program" and "defense" is sort of blurring. With all this in mind, complaining that technology is not coming about because money is being spent on defense seems not so logical.

By the way, if we could build teleport stuff now, don't you think that Defense types would be the first to throw their money behind it? Imagine our troops teleporting into Bin Laden's Cave and shooting him before he had a chance to question if he was seeing some kind of figment of his imagination.

I knew a guy that had about 6 computers in his room and one day (luckily while he was there) one of them caught fire. The damage to the wall next to the computer was pretty serious. I am pretty sure that it was the power supply that started the fire. This is sort of scary to me since I have about 6 computers running in my house and 4 of them run 24/7.

Does anyone else have first hand experience with computer fires?

I have an AMD k6-2 that I have been using for years and it is more reliable than my Intel system. I have had no compatibility problems. I am going to need a new system again soon and this new AMD chip is looking nice... I'll have to see some other reviews first and maybe a friends system so I can experience it in real life before buying though...

Head over to Slackware and check out ZipSlack and BigSlack. Both linux distros for the UMSDOS filesystem only requiring winzip and a simple edit of a batch file to install. ZipSlack is bare bones (~80meg) and BigSlack is bigger with KDE and X. This LinuxOne stuff is a total joke. I wish the SEC would stop this IPO since it is obviously a bunch of garbage. I thought that a company had to have 4 million in assets before going public. I would be surprised if these jokers did.
