The summery above says that the internet savvy test subjects were younger than those who have never used it before, however, the article linked clearly mentions that all subjects were aged 55-76, and that "the groups were similar in age, gender and education."

Also, the test only included 24 subjects, which is not very much to base a theory on. A larger study showing similar results would be more reliable.

With minor differences, this is a standard lease agreement. It turned the car industry upside-down, for a period of a couple years. Now, it's about equal to the purchase-outright agreement. The benefits and problems are a personal decision to the buyor/lessor. But atleast they have a choice.

It's amazing how the entertainment and software industries think they can do whatever they want... I wonder how people would react if all the car manufacturers would unite and decide that from now on, all the cars aren't sold, they are rented. That there is no warranty, not even if the car came defective from the factory or even missing vital parts such as the engine or wheels. That the car manufacturer could at his will take away your car without having to justify himself or reimburse you for it. That you may only take your car to several garages that have been approved by the car manufacturing consortium. That you are not allowed to touch any of the internal pats of the car, or even open the hood to look at the engine.

Also, people will have cybernetic implants put in their bodies, thus making them cyborgs with superhuman abilities.

Back when I joined slashdot over 2 years ago (is there any way to find out exactly when?), it was an inovative site with an interface that was hardly used anywhere on the web- back then, the hot things in webdesign were frames and portals. Now, I can hardly pass 10 websites without seeing atleast one that has a similar "web-logesque" interface. It looks like slashdot was one of the first sites of this trend. Now, we have reached version 1.0 of Slashcode, and we can truely say that both slashdot and it's community have gone a long way. Even though we have to face trolls on a permanent basis, we can now easily face them with our army of well-selected moderators. We have even grown some "hidden" forums, created by using comments.pl with a sid that doesn't point to an article. Back when I joined, I got ID #4213. The comunity has grown so much, that the poll often goes into the tens of thousends of votes, and that's just the people who vote! Slashdot has grown from an anonymous site that only a few select geeks knew about to a gaigentic news agency of sorts for nerds worldwide!
    Way to go Slashdot!!

  15. Delta Force/Rainbow Six on Forum: Future Ports of Games to Linux · · Score: 1

I would love to see either Rainbow Six or Delta Force ported to linux. In both games you play the role of an anti-terrorist organization, planning your assult and executing it in first-person shooter style. Both have thier strengths and weeknesses- R6 has far better graphics, much more plot, and a better selection of equipment, but has mostly indoor missions and can be very difficult at times. Delta force has bad graphics (it was build so it doesn't use any hardware acceleration), but has better computer AI for your teammates and supperior multiplayer mode.
I personally would be willing to pay the full price for either of those games if offered for linux.

I agree with you that the artists should get paid for thier work. What I'm saying is that once it goes on the computer, want it or not, someone will figure out a way to break it. Also, you are forgetting the fact that of the say 15$ you pay for a CD, about 10-12$ goes to the record company and 2$ or so to the distributer, which means that the artist doesn't see much of the cash anyways. I do buy CDs, and if they didn't cost so much (the price of a blank disk when bought in bulk is negligable, and the entire burning proccess including the purchase of the disk costs less then .5$). The total cost of production (studio, burning, promotion, etc.) is about 5-8$, which means that while the artist sees only about 1-2$ per CD, the record company makes a net profit of about 5$ per CD. And that is what they are trying to protect, not the artist.

As to e-mailing the author- appearantly ABC does not publisize authors' e-mails, however they have a feedback form here. Be sure to put "http://www.abcnews.go.com/sections/tech/DailyNews /gnome990507.html" in the URL field so that they know what you are talking about. Please, do not write them messages like "you l@m3rs are so stupid", since such messages won't promote the cause and and might discourage them from writing more articles about Linux, if not write about "the many bad people who use Linux". Maybe someone with some time and knowledge on his/her hands could offer to advise on Linux-related issues, and correct such mistakes before they are published. Again, please go there only if you intend to send some quality feedback.
