The Screen Savers did a little segment about a real full out pc the size of your normal cdrom. They talk about how to share data and video and so on. They did this back in January.
cdrecording apps on linux SUCK A$$.. They are either unstable as hell or you have./make./install and even that doesn't always compile right. Do you have the right libs? what are the right ones? Where can I get them. Oop they don't have that version anymore!
And this happens with apt-get as well as rpm's.
Xfree is a slow gui cause it has WAY to much overhead especially for just plain old home use.
Actually all of the complaints he had were simular to my own. I tried BEos and loved it, but it didn't have enough programs. So when os X came out I tried it and LOVE IT. It is the most usable os and stable and I have CLI if I need it. The only bad thing is if I want use gimp or image magic I have to start X/darwin. Everything else I used to use on linux is either a terminal prog or build for aqua.
I like the duct tape idea but don't forget to get 101 things to do with duct tape
Why I use os X and not linux anymore

I had been using linux in many of it's forms. My first install was Redhat 4.2 (great system but something was missing) Then I went to Mandrake when it first came out. I loved that. I thought there can not be a better linux. I was wrong. I had heard about Debian and thought I gotta try this. The install kept sputtering on me and I thought oh well back to Mandrake. But no I found Corel and when that went out I found Progeny and when the went away I went back to debian. It install ok but I still felt there was something better. Then for my birthday last year my dad got me a g4 tower with os X on it. Not a lot of Ram 256 but enough to run at blazing speed. Then I got fink so I have and apt-get-alike for os X. Now I wonder what I need Linux for? I got stuff done faster on mac than Linux and I get to play games and code in python and perl. The bad point seems to be no gcc and no stable midnight commander.
It does not give the owner the right to deny me access to the item if I want it.
Actually yes it does. If I don't want to sell you something as along it is not discrimatory, ie I won't sell to gays or jews.
But the trading of said really doesn't mess with their income, they don't get any from these anymore anyways
lack of compilation to native code for Python source code
FALSE
You can compile python code under at least windows and Mac os, (don't know about Linux yet)
I like being able to do this. it make python a real programming language being both interperted and compiled.
I been getting this mag for years now.
At first this was an excellent starter point for new and interesting stuff now it it tripe not even worthy of the name "The Hacker Quarterly".
Is it me or did this start about the time "FREE KEVIN" stuff was ending. Not putting down the cause or anything but it is true
dogs, sheep, cats, and knot holes in trees do not count!
Then again neither does rosie;)
By the way what do you use to see.
Your 5 cent hoe Mom told she had to use a microscope.
I gave up on Linux because the only good program was Gimp and it was more stable than win80.
Now I use win2k use gimp and it is as stable (at least to me) as linux no os crash and no program takes over my keyboard and locks up the system (Netscape). But with gnome on win perhaps things will start looking a little better around here.
I wonder if you could extract the code from the cd and write your own code. Something like making the cd a type of BIOS so that you can add a usb hard drive and be able to run a real linux and do real stuff.
Yes linux does have usb support but I am not sure about support for drives last I heard it was rather ifffy.
How about hacking a Hard drive on to it and having the linux of choice on it.
well I am not sure how big a pentabyte is so I went with 10K Gigabyte which means all you need is 134 of those new 75 Gig hd's So how about a 140 dual processors alpha systems with 500Mb ram, 75 Gig hd, dual fiberchannel networking with a cray as the controlling host.
The problem with the original article was that it was written for nongeeks and geeks reviewed it. The tech presented was blah and not well researched nor well presented. For a prof mag like Jane's you should expect better research and writeing

Would I be able to hook this up to my 4dtv sat. ?
here is a artical on doing your own DSL maybe it will help you out
dyi DSL
try Progeny it is better.
The install is as good and is more stable.
And the over all system is stable.
And nothing beats apt-get.
Just say apt-get install and there's no hassle.
amen to that!
but remember most people have no idea how actually powerfull that can be.
helioare loud because of their props breaking the sound barrier at their tips.
Incidentally Chrystlar did this in the late fifties early sixties.
Quite as hell and faster than gossip. And fuel efficient as a metro.

Funny thing about life is NO ONE GETS OUT OF IT ALIVE!
No one expects the Spanish Inquistion!
Big Macs are bad for your health too + they cost money = you are a masochist
REBOOT
Oxygen oxidates you + cost money to keep it pure = you are a masochist
OH NO WE ARE ALL MASOCHISTS
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Hold still while I swat that fly on your face with this hatchet.
;P
NOOBODY expects the spanish inquisition. I did why do you think I don't live in spain. ;P
Off to Terminus with you. And take the tiger lady with you.
How the hell did this score at all!

I hate being stuck in win but I need some of the programs availible for it.
