    What is morally relative about a government denying its citizens rights they purport to give their citizens in their very constitution, as was insightfully stated?
    ... in which case there isn't a single government that isn't guilty. So we're back to moral relativism. You have to make a judgment call at *some* point. Some things are more evil than others, from a human perspective.

    Besides, these chinese bloggers ... an hour after you've eaten one, you're hungry again ... (there. someone had to say it. satisfied?)

    A trade embargo is not going to make China change it's policy on internet content filtering.
    Exactly. Besides, the rest of the world couldn't even afford a trade embargo with China at this point ...

    And its not like other countries aren't doing the same ... (hello, France wrt louis vuitton auctions, Germany wrtnazi memorabilia, Microsoft wrt Mike Rowe Soft) ... oops, forgot, Microsoft isn't a country - they outsource that function by renting their politicians.

    that, plus if they post in chinese and you can't understand it, you may very well be hosting a government "agent provocateur".

    ... or, if they post in english (or ingrish) then they aren't really communicating very effectively with their own countrymen, so it becomes just another political statement w/o much impact.

    IOW, a cute idea, but not very practical or logical. Perhaps we're being trolled?

    Not really - since they're a monopoly who can't stand any competition, their number one job is to undermine themselves. Hence Longhorn, Vietnam, etc. Gotta keep the dogs of war^W^W^Wmarketing machine sharp!

    Hey, this is a *Good Thing*. Think of it - hopefully the Vietnam KrazieGuys^W Leaders will insist on upgrading their launch control systems to Longhorn ... and trying to get them to run on their coal-burning 8088 PCs.

    We may actually end up with a live re-enactment of that scene in South Park where the general says "Get me Bill Gates" ... and shoots him ... win-win all around.

    those expressions are fleeting
    ... al the more reason to go all-digital, and shoot like crazy. Quantity + quality. I-gig flash cards are cheap nowadays.

    I would much rather have my pictures printed on photopaper (archival quality actually) than from an inkjet that will fade much quicker.
    It's still being printed on an ink jet, dude! Print it yourself, and when it fades, print another copy. Its not like you can't with digital.

    Three things:
    1. with the cost of digital "film" being pretty much zero, since you can re-use it, there's no problem shooting a LOT of pix ...
    2. A real pro will shoot several shots for each one they keep, with slight variations in lighting, etc. They're not worried about "yield rates" either
    3. Anyone can make a negative strip (or a contact sheet) with only good shots

    As I said, most of the "professionals" aren't. And I'll bet that there are a few "amateurs" who can beat the shit out of them, same as in any field.

    but the photographer has control for commercial use (i.e. magazine reprints).
    ... then he'd better have a signed permission from everyone in attendance, seeing as a wedding is a private event, and 3rd parties are NOT covered under fair use at private events.

    Especially since most of these "professional" photogs can't take pix any better than you or I with a weekend of practice.

    Okay, that WOULD be news - I was under the impression it was ALL politicians are influenced by money. Or booze. Or drugs. Or cheap hookers. Or all of the above.

    If you've managed to find some that aren't yet, quick - post their names here. There's bound to be a few lobbyists willing to try their luck in virgin territory.

    Reminds me of what I did a while back - made a demo porn site (showed 3 lesbians in an interesting sequence of events), along with an ad plastered in one frame.

    I still think it would work - everyone who looked at it would let the sequence run over and over and .... well, you get the point.

    I figure marketing has to be beneficial to both parties ... wel, long story short, ended up doing something "more conventional". Damn!

    Well, I don't watch much tv (a few hours a month), but one of my friends is into "test cards" (wink wink nudge nudge), and rumour has it that there's a crack for the P4, but its not in the wild ... yet.

    Apple OSX unlocked, installs on evrything including the kitchen sink.

    Or, witht he way things are today, it'll be unlocked and all over the place a week before the "golden masters" are pressed. Only time will tell, but ther is NO way that software can be successfully locked down 100%. Anyone betting on that as a business strategy is playing russian roulette with a loaded gun.
