What's going to happen when they'll break my house and find plenty of burned CD of Solaris 8? They'll try to open all my computers to see if I run it on a node with more than 8 cpus?
SparcStation 5, 110 mhz, 32 Mb ram, 2 Gig HD.
w/ 2 happy-meal SBUS network card (one for the DMZ and one for the LAN) with the built-in Lance.
Running OpenBSD 2.9: IPF/IPNAT.
sooo cute
With the release of XF4 i tried to use multiple monitor to get a "unified" desktop using different video card. In 10 minutes i set up a desktop of 3840x1024 with a matrox g400 (single head) agp, a s3 virge pci and a ati rage pci. It's really easy and the result worth the place on the desk : it's fun to have several gnome-terminal tail'ing -f log file and monitoring stuff while leaving place to do something else. Without the need to change the virtual desktop, only by turning the head. And think about GIMP on a resolution like that!
Xinerama is a good thing, but the current architecture can't help us. There is only one AGP slot and available PCI become a problem when a sound and ethernet card are installed. With the speed of new bus a well designed serial bus fast enough to handle video could be used to install serveral screen on it, and the video card could be included inside the screen!
A standard slot inside the screen could be installed inside all future screen to excluded the video card from the main board and giving the choice of the user to use one video card instead of an other... to let USB (or other future bus) monitor be used in a infinite number on the same computer.
I'm from the Lac-St-Jean, i learn everything i can about unix (especialy perl+linux) in my spare time during my studies. Before i can get my DEC, a Montreal's company hired me. Since then i work like a perl programmer and i'm paid good for someone without a diploma (15$/h to start). So, look the good place, participate in opensource project, do something in your spare time. Where i work no coders have a diploma, there nothing to learn at school for a programmer.
The first thing everyone really want, IS A STABLE WEB BROWSER... NOW. News, mail, instant messenger can wait. And why that's stupid chrome (theme) thing, a pure gtk+ web browser, without theme will be enough. Gtk+ include a perfect theme engine. Communicator consume so much memory, and with all its memory leak, sometimes, for me, it eat more than 100mb of ram, learn from your errors. A lite, pure gtk+, stable web browser please! After that, more developper will be interested to contribute and add mail, news, irc, etc.
yes you can, but you'll have to first do:
setenv input-device ttya
setenv output-device ttya
unlink Sun, they don't switch to serial console if no keybord/screen is plugged into it.
These are all IRIX screenshot with gnome instead of 4DWM.
the linux buzzword strike again
If you don't remember for what you applied for, maybe that's why you're inadequate :)
You applied for what?
Last year they hired almost anybody...
We just got a RS/6000 @Series, 6 CPUs and 8G of RAM, it come by default with a DVD-RAM, which actually work under AIX with a IBM proprietary software.
You too, could get a DVD-RAM writer for 100 000$!

Can we expect to see this great character, Sarcastro who fight evil with the sharp blade of sarcasm?
