They did some good things with that in Lord of the Rings. Nice to see Apple continue to keep it out atleast for a while longer.
On a side note.... does Slashdot think Apple users are to dumb to find the Apple section themself and have to put a comment about going there on every post about Apple?!
Now THAT is funny. I sent a nice 'comment' on there site:
If unix is so bad, how come your runing FreeBSD to run this site? If you can't even use Microsoft products to support your site, what makes me think I should use it at my company?
FreeBSD Rapidsite/Apa-1.3.14 (Unix) FrontPage/4.0.4.3 mod_ssl/2.7.1 OpenSSL/0.9.5a 28-Mar-2002 198.63.57.204 Verio, Inc.
That's a good point. Up to now, Microsoft keeps saying that Linux/Unix is not a threat to them, and have just played dumb and ignored them. Atleast now, it's starting to show that they are getting scared and are going to show it.
But what these ads are going to be for, are the newbies trying to setup a network. I can see it now:
Me: We'll go with a cluster of Unix boxes for your project. Client: No, havn't you heard about that Unix inflexible system, we should go with Microsoft! *sigh*, another day, another MS machine to format.
It would be nice to see Sun and IBM, etc.. to start running some straight on anti-microsoft ads. I do like Sun's comment
"As for Unix being 'inflexible,' 'expensive,' and 'complex,' we feel those are terms much better suited to the closed and proprietary world of Windows."
Now if they will only put that into an ad of their own, that whole reply, sums up this marketing campaine very nicly.
I dunno, I don't like it. Ok, sure it's lightweight and everything, but again it's only a Pentium 200... might as well buy a laptop I think. Plus, this would suck if say, you wanted more ram, or the cpu went bye bye. Atleast it's different.
Yeah, I know that's why it's so strange. But it works perfect with the 550mhz. I put in the 900 and everything goes crazy. It will lock sometimes before even POST, sometimes after, sometimes 5-10 minutes in, and if your good enough to finaly get it to boot up and it's stable, it will be just fine till you reboot the comptuer again. I never thought it would be the CPU with the kind of problems, even tried *ick* windows.. same problems. Updated BIOS to latest, etc...
With the post about going after copyrights, yesterday about the privacy issue for websites and other related things going on, you'd allmost think that the users and normal people are starting to win a bit....... I can dream can't I? This is good news for them tho. But to bad MusicCity got knocked off, and they took down their linux clone. I have a feeling they won't last much longer like this. I only hope that Guntella finaly gets better (hasing files for downloading from more then one person at a time would be nice! c'mon LimeWire).
Tho I normaly don't reply to things like this... I'm bored and tired. I didn't overclock the CPU, infact I've tried to even underclock it. It will run fine untill it boots, then say you load up X-Windows... crash, tried different fans, no case, etc. Even replaced motherboard, memory, everthing (power suply got bumpbed up to a 'AMD recemened one'). Nothing works but to replace the CPU with a 550mhz I was able to find. The werid thing, is if you get it to stay up and not crash during the boot, or in the first few minutes, it will stay up forever.... till you reboot the machine and the problems come back.
I felt the same way, and went with AMD for my Athalon (first good AMD chip). I've had so many problems with it, had to finaly replace the chip. And AMD wouldn't even waranty the chip (offered to even pay for it!), becuase it wasn't OEM. I supose it's my fault for trying to save money (remember kids, you get what you pay for). I havn't decided if I'm going to go with AMD or Intel for my next chip yet. Kinda ticked me off that I got a dead 900mhz Athalon chip I can't do anything with (ebay maybe....), but I'm sure Intel would probably do the same anyway.
I dunno if I like your comment, and think I'll fund a report to bash you, and since it will be a report by a 3rd party, it will be fact.:)
I've allways taken these reports as lightly as I can, and try to only look at benchmarks and that matter. I admit, I'm a bit confused about the whole new AMD boxing numbers, but I kinda got the hang of it after a bit.
If you think about it, once we hit 1Gz, is there realy a need to keep counting it? I think they should maybe find a benchmarking program and set their speeds by that, once standard speed test. Ghz is starting to become less important it seams as the chips get more advanced... just kinda sounds cool, but that's marketing for you.
What about going to like cdnow.com to buy the cd's for those bands? Normaly they have cd's that you can't find in many stores.
MP3 trading has opened my mind to more then the 'top 10' playing on any day of the week. I probably would have never listened to and bought (back when the RIAA and MPAA wasn't such A-holes) a lot of music that came out before I was even born.
That's why stores won't take back unopen CD's I thought. I remember having to talk to a store manager becuase a CD I bought (happen a few times with DVD's) was scratched. I opened it and found out and tried to return it. I didn't even want a different one, just the same disk.
I agree, but I don't think the RIAA and MPAA are ever going to see that people trading MP3's will make them money (people who trade more MP3s, buy more cds becuase they hear more music), and that keeping people from trading them will equal less money. I allways thought of trading MP3s as kinda like listening to them over the radio, only I get to listen to more then the same 3 songs over and over again.... after you hear it that much I have no drive to go buy the CD. And people like myself, who don't buy CD's becuase of the copy protection and the crap the RIAA and MPAA are doing, only seam to add to the realm of pirates, not protesters.
Next we'll just need a SPAM hot line. "1-800-SPAMED.... yes, I can't take it anymore, I'm going to jump, my inbox is full and my girlfriend broke up with me becuase I didn't reply......"
"What this study is really measuring is the collapse of the Internet bubble," said Smith. "Clearly the numbers are going to be down since many third-party companies are now out of business. There are fewer companies collecting the data... since they never learned how to turn that data into money."
Basicly... 'we don't care about what you people think, but if we can't make money off it, and it's something you want, we'll give it a try to shut you up till we can find a better way to make money'
My phone finaly broke (T250) and I got a *laugh* upgrade to an Ericsson 289LX (pocketnet phone). I hate this stupid thing, and they don't have any other pocketnet phone. After a week of the upgrade, and keep looking back on their page for a better phone I now see they killed the Ericsson phone also from their list. I'm guessing they are getting rid of Pocketnet, and it sucks since I use it so much (thinking of switching to verizon). On their site you can find their GSM network (http://www.attws.com/mobileinternet/), and the phones look sweet. But like I'm ever going to see it any time soon (live in CT). So I'm either stuck with this POS phone, or switch to another provider. AT&T does have the best coverage, and I left verizon to get AT&T, but it's worth nothing if I have a phone I hate.
So does my Mandrake box with vmware, minus runing Max software. Yet, what mac software would I want to run? If I can't find it in Linux, I grin, moan and bitch, try Wine first and then if it don't work, boot into my vmware windows session. If I can't find it for windows, I highly dought I'd find it for Mac anyway.
The point, why would I buy a Mac, if I'm going to be running Windows software and *nix software? Why not just run *nix, on cheap PC hardware and a free OS?
I work atleast 50 hours a week, into a 4 day work week. Started taking off Friday's when the work was just getting to be to much, and needed a 3 day weekend each week. Now I try to do around 12 hours a day for 4 days, but it's allways over that... and I never seam to get a full 3 day weekend either. Damn 'remote access', can we kill the admin that thought of that?
They did some good things with that in Lord of the Rings. Nice to see Apple continue to keep it out atleast for a while longer.

And with the bullet being made by MS, it'd probably GPF when you pull the triger. :)

My board is also an Abit (KA-7), I'll give it a try when I get home tonight, thanks for the tip. Worse case... I'll be upgrading this weekend heh. :)
