If I were one of his neighbors I would put literally hundreds of dummy wifi routers all over my home with little led's blinking wildly! and a directional antenna pointing directly at his window, just for added effect.
My other responses? Maybe you should be looking at the author of the posts. I just pointed out a logical fallacy in your previous post, and you've since gone to the pulpit with your agenda.
I'll tell you flat out. I download content that is available through legitimate means, simply for the sake of convenience.. I did it because it was there and more convenient. Had nothing to do with an "agenda".. I simply didn't care. Now you can paint me with an agenda if you like. That's your right, but don't expect me to care about that either.
"If you can't see why it might matter to other people, that's also your own problem."
Actually since you're the one who wants it to matter, I'd say it's *your* problem.
Since that patent troll petition has so few signature, it's probably a good measure on how strong the slashdot population is when it comes to such things..
I saw a kid the other day wearing the *exact same* Members Only jacket that I wore in middle school in the 80's... I felt a mix of surprise and sadness... with just a touch of annoyance.
What people want is to get the show for free and have it be really conveniently available all around the world. There is no possible business model of "release an elaborate fantasy television series for free."
Which is why you get torrents... people are willing to pay, just not the value the studios set on it. I suppose the argument could be "tough it's their show, they can charge what they want" to which I suppose people's reactions would be, it's available to me online for free... why pay that much when the internet reveals it's true "value"

"And for the Most extreme example, see the ghost cities of China where the government is builiding cities to "stimulate" the economy and the cities are almot completely empty."
So basically what you're saying is that you shouldn't create demand by filling the supply first?... or is it just when governments do it?
Except that the word "seems" was used, therefore the subject was about the *perception* of what would be more efficient. Obviously when you think about it, it becomes more clear, but at first glance it would *seem* counter-intuitive.
If I had to guess, I'd probably say with the recyclable nature of paper as opposed to the large amount of ewaste we create globally buying newer devices for the same purpose over and over, it would create the perception that creating a device to read the news off of would seem rather counter-intuitive than reading from a recyclable paper product.
Across the board spending cuts are supposed to take effect in January of 2013... You know who's crying about them already... The military. I can already hear the backtracking in congress about how dangerous it is to cut military spending, and I'm sure we'll have across the board cuts in 2013... for social programs.
"expect yourself and your poor kid to be face serious repercussions."
The very teachings of Jesus himself. One can almost see him smiling lovingly down on the persecution of non-believers.
Someone who, up until he ran for the Senate, always ran on the Socialist Party USA ticket for state-level political offices, was trying to be "bi-partisan"?
What you are seeing there is the election promises of 2008 and the people's aspirations of actually fostering positive change. Ask anyone today if they feel the same as when that video was made and I think you'd hear a resounding "no". It wasn't the personality that was the cult, it was the idea/dream of finally having someone who might actually try to change things for the better. Most if not all of the people are probably quite disillusioned with the campaign Obama at this point, and have come to the realization that the Obama in office wasn't strong enough to make the change. I honestly believe in the beginning he was trying very hard to be bi-partisan, but he's just been worn down so much at this point that he's just part of the petulant system of two party politics.

Suddenly the "eye" on the top of the pyramid gains more meaning.

If being constantly monitored has the aim of keeping a local populace in line, imagine what it would do for our politicians...

Commercials are just one of many areas where companies won't let "the market decide"

Time to build starship: 20 years. Time to reach nearest star: 10,000 years (*)
Based on these numbers, wouldn't it be better to let technology progress a little bit further?
(*) IANAA, not an astronomer
Cost to build starship? I think that one should be right up there with the other two.

How is this in any way counter-intuitive?

Let me hand you a dictionary opened to the page on the meaning of sarcasm.

Call me biased or whatever, but I already knew the word Chinese was gonna be in there before I even read the story.
