Bearing in mind how many people have PCs currently which DONT have any copy protection any attempt to release a pc with copy protection will fail almost immediatly, unless copy protection is suddenly a legal requirement (god forbid)
"If it takes three minutes for a response, it is not really HTTP any more," - What the hell is he trying to do that takes so long???
"A replacement will eventually have to be found, he said, but it is not at all clear who will provide this replacement." - Id say from that that Microsoft allready HAVE a replacement in mind and are first trying to tell us we actualy need one
I would LOVE to boycot BT however this is impossible given the state of phone "competiton" in the UK currently. They are my ISP since they are the only people who offer unmetered acces in my area at all (and thier definition of unmetered is slightly differnt to mine), and to cap it all they suggest I get ASDL instead. The phonelines here never connect at anything more than 28k (we have DAC on the line). To be quite frank they couldnt run a bath tub let alone a phoneline.
This is probably some "initative" by the high-up people in BT to attempt to offset that huge amount of money they lost in shares recently.
Actualy bearing mind the number of differnt languaes the kids will speak thats probably a good idea. I think the old saying "a picture speaks 1000 words" applies here, and pictures dont need translating either, however from the past manufactured languages havent really taken off much.
Given current "progress" it looks more like humans will cause their own destruction within the next 100 years or so. Evolution isnt limited to physical things such as how many limbs you have and how long they are, it also is seen in the ideas we pass on to our children too.
aliens with any sense would try to avoid us for as long as possible given our (humans) extreme desire to destroy each other and well if they happen to find a copy of mars attacks then i think were completly doomed never to meet aliens ever
and given that the universe is infinite for all we know that would imply that there are an infinite number of planets and thus an infinte number of habitable planets
I noticed this too, it seems to only affect 3D games, mainly SDL based ones such as armagedtron, but strangly it hasent affected quake 3 at all. Unreal tournamet was affected, but i SWEAR it didnt use to do that.
By the time the linux binaries are out I have finnished it under windoze (which I reinstalled to get it to work). Ironicaly the windows version of this struggled to work for quite a while since it swore blind I had a glide compatable card (I used to and I still had a wrapper), but multiplayer ran better under linux that windows which was nice. And ill still have single player with a symlink just cos its nice to have when people say linux has no games
Currently we have MBone a high bandwith network built for multicasting. In my opinion it would make sense for instant messenger service providers to work with ISP's to create a similar network dedicated to isntant messaging. It needent even run a form of IP, instead it could run some kind of protocol 100% designed for instant messaging
Here in the UK we allready have that. NTL offers cable modems, cable tv, cheap phone lines all down the same wire all with one bill. $200+ sounds excessive though. They even have pay per view films.
It all looks and sounds very impressive, but one of my reasons for liking the original was it ran on machines that quake3 really didnt run too well on.
Sounds damm funky but I bet it doesnt play very well over a modem
The legal issues behind that are far reaching. This would effectivly end trial by jury. (although here in the uk they are trying to do this with some smaller cases)
Also I think your anti-theft device would end up with everybody involved suing everybody. It would however give the suspect nice distinguising marks;-)
I never thought id say this but maybe having patents isnt such a bad thing after all as long as there owned by resonible people or companies
And phillips are certainly playing their cards quite nicely except for one thing. Can they be got under the dmca for this?? Although that might have the added bonus of a large coropartion with their big army of lawyers taking on the dmca
"This virus proves that virus authors will continue to target new platforms, so antivirus vendors need to invest in research and work out better ways to detect threats,"
Why work on detecting the threats... seems kinda pointless to me when you could eleminate the threat. I think micrsoft might well be in leauge with the antivirus sotware writers, and im dreading the next version of windows with microsoft's own antivirus software. (unless by antivirus you mean hard to exploit to make run random code)
The average gullable home user doesnt need.NET isnt ready for.NET and doesnt have a clue what.NET even is in all probablity appart from what theyve heard from CNN.
I havent seen one of those in use for years. I thought they were just used for getting old data for posteritys sake and not commercialy anymore. O well i guess im wrong
Erm not just the plagerised stuff.. the really good invoative stuff that can be flogged to companys for $$$
What would be news would be when they realised that the only mp3's I have on my harddrive that arent legal are ones that I wouldnt have bought anyway

I have extreme hatred for the EU and all that it stands for. Does that make me a criminal if I havent actualy done anything except state it here?
Its just another way to keep unhappy members of the population silent.
Whats more iritating is the Packard bell recovery cd's which
a) refuse to install if u change motherboards
b) format the hard disk randomly too

What ever happend to their mole man army (from 3 dead trolls and in a baggie) or did they only debug ie code?

O btw my name is Ford Prefect
Not another "copy protected" format presumably with region restricions et al.
It seems that he is deliberatly excluding/breaking other people's clients and thus lowering himself to microsoft's dirty level

Does this therefore mean that microsoft can sue Brian Paul (the Mesa Author) for every penny he has and more if they decide to?

"Class-action attorneys from California have argued the money should be reimbursed directly to customers who were overcharged for Microsoft software."
how on earth would they enforce that idea then? and would all the people with pirate copies get a share too?
Does this also mean redhat are now in with a chance?

HTMLDOC appears to serve your purpouse. It appears only windows binaries are avalible however but the sourcecode is avalible under the GPL
