    How about the ridiculous electricity demands of running hundreds of x86 servers and routers as opposed to 1 mainframe running hundreds of virtual servers with hardware vastly more reliable than the average Dell.

    There's a fair bit of command line work required on Windows XP too. Try setting ACLs on the Home version without opening a command prompt for example.

    Most mainframe professionals are not gainfully employed anymore, and before you say "should've kept your skills up to date", I have, however no amount of night classes can give you the 2 years+ experience required to get an interview.
    There's no shortage of mainframe work, it's just been shifted to India, and no corp I've worked for in the last 5 years has had the slightest interest in retraining us dinosaurs into newer tech.

    But it does install a whole load of device drivers, some of which caused it to freeze on my p500 heap of crap. No flavour of Linux or Win98 had any trouble.

    That certainly describes the only Apple fan I've ever met. What a wanker he is. Hasn't put me off buying an Apple product though, the cost does that very nicely.

    x86 isn't good hardware, it's cheap hardware available from a number of vendors or buildable yourself. That's a big reason for its success.

    I've worked on many projects where we get "here's a good idea: now do it to an unreasonable deadline, oh and by the way we're not entirely sure if this is what we want", which in the end favours neither the developers or the users.

    The market probably said no because they didn't want one of their competitors also controlling the OS they pre-installed. Had OS/2 come from MS alone or from another supplier who knows?

    Everywhere has excessive duration of legal proceedings. If we weren't ruled by lawyers the legal system would have been streamlined a long time ago.

    You can, however, have a well-designed, well-coded project that makes it relatively easy to fix any bugs that do come up.

    Except that BT always made huge profits, even when it was a state monopoly. Privatising it hasn't improved the service at all. The evil state monopolies of Germany and Luxembourg were offering DSL a couple of years before BT, since BT wanted to protect its ISDN monopoly and was forced in the end to move on by the rather crappy regulator.

    I was shocked to find out that it doesn't drop ICMP requests. Every other firewall I've ever used can do that even the Windows XP one.

    A Christian is a follower of the teachings of Christ. Therefore Mormons are Christians. You're talking like you're being called a Catholic but at the end of the day, despite the surrounding beliefs of your church, it is called the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints. Therefore you are a Christian, even if you don't believe in the trinity.
