This is the reason why it is perfectly legal to refuse to pay for some meals after eating them (in the UK). The nature of food dictates that you often don't realise that it is not what you expected until after the fact. You are not expected to pay for the restaurants incompetence/mistake.
This doesn't ever need to be said - it's goddamn assumed by anyone who knows what they are doing And it is also assumed that that that the end implementation made the same assumption as you. A government that employs socialised healthcare is investing in the countries future also. The majority of people that will be cured under this system will go on to pay taxes for the rest of their life, increase population etc. which brings in more tax payers. It's a long term gain, but a gain nonetheless.
If you have a large dataset or input domain to perform work upon, split it into X chunks, each chunk processed on a CPU. Hence supercomputers usually being useful for problems that have large datasets/input domains

I can agree with your point 100%. Here in the UK, after being involved in a car crash, in which I was a passenger, the police attended the scene. Since the car my friend was driving was in the process of having the ownership details transferred by the legendary slow DVLA, the police checked up on us to see if there were any warrants out for us. When it came to check my record, I had none. I'm almost 30, and up until that day, I had never been arrested for anything. I had a bank card in my name, some photo membership etc.. and the police even phoned my landlord to verify my identity, which when verified, his shoulders visibly sagged. After all this, I was arrested. Why ? "We don't believe you are who you say you are, Sir." Great. So I end up sitting in a cell for 5 hours, get my DNA taken, all after a head-on crash which left me nicely bruised and hurting. Eventually, a jovial sergeant came to the cell "You can go now." with a smile. Thanks a f*****g lot. To have the fact that I was arrested used against me in any way is just plain wrong. Companies should not be allowed to discriminate on information that provides no indication of wrong-doing.
best way I saw to accept a bribe was from the Korean film "The King and the Clown". A government minister is making a show of presenting a golden turtle to the King, who won't accept it due to the unsubtle nature of it being offered. After several attempts, the King obliquely points out that the minister ought to change his method, to which the minister replies "I don't have enough money for the journey home, my Lord... but if you will buy this turtle from me for the cost, you would help me greatly". The King turns round, and laughs "At that price, I'll take 2!".

If 80% are male, and the algorithm just guessed Male all the time, unless they bought 'ladies items' online, then they would have a pretty good accuracy. Same thing happens with mobile numbers... too many stalker girls get a hold of it, and before you know it, you don't want to read your texts/listen to your answerphone. So you change your number and let people who you want to contact you have the new one. Simple. Works fine with mobiles. If someone really urgently needs to get hold of you, they will be able to. The same works for email addresses. Stop getting so attached to numbers/email addresses. They are only tools to facilitate contact.
How can a normal fraudster use a credit card number to his personal gain? Rent a flat/bedsit somewhere. Get someone to rent it for you for some cash. There's your address. Getting goods is trivial. The hard part is getting people to accept a card without the corroborating data, like chip-and-pin, signature, D.O.B etc etc.

So, naturally, I lean in a bit closer so she can hear. Wham ! She lays into me. On camera, it looks like I'm about to attack her by leaning in. *sigh*.
Cameras are solely in the UK to allow police to avoid doing real police work and provide a deterring presence, and to allow them to employ nefarious tactics against the criminal public. Don't ever be under the illusion that they are there for you, the taxpayer.
Imagine some unscrupulous person coding something that updates your keyboard to bombard you with direct marketing, using the keys like a limited dot matrix.. or indeed, if the keys mapped fast enough, you could create cool music pulse effects etc. I must admit, I'd like on of these.

Unfortunately, several companies choose to ignore the opt-out listings ! It seems reasonable that the web directory (google) has a similar mechanism for avoiding unwanted listing (robots.txt).

A Defence against that attack vector already exists for the savvy !
I have a few friends that have the affliction of not being able to talk to someone without looking at them. Whilst they are driving, this leads to very scary scenarios. There are a couple that I refuse to be a passenger with now based on these experiences ! It seems that some people just don't understand that you have a responsibility on the road. Not only are you putting your passengers lives at risk, but also you are maybe risking destroying the family of the person you just hit.
Most people come up with the non-excuse "I've never had an accident, I'm a good driver". Remember whilst this may be true,the person in front of you may be an awful driver, so you will need to apply your full attention at all times.
That's one of the dark sides of the internet. If you get accused of a crime, it's all over the internet. And even if you're acquitted, charges dropped, or found innocent, you're now all over the internet, and people will see that and immediately assume the worst.
Newspapers in the UK are just as bad. People get accused of something, and before they have gone to trial, their name is mud. Now, alot of the time when they are found innocent, or the paper had a case of mistaken identity, if they even bother to point this out, it's in the tiniest retraction wedged inbetween some columnist and the sports.
I think it would be fairer if they were forced to commit the same amount of coverage to the real outcome.
As long as people remember that popular opinion (which most tabloids come under) is not fact, then things aren't too bad. If a google search comes up with a trend of behaviour, don't take it as gospel but use this as a basis for a more thourough background check via more conventional means, e.g: contacting past employers.
