LOL! I get your point, but I don't remember several points from the movie being in the book, infact I don't remember Arowyn riding Frodo to safty, I remember Glorfindel (sp?). So as far as the award is concerned, it is the creative adaption of a story to the screen. Not the original plot itself!:) Good point though!
They need to win Oscar's for that will HOPEFULLY guide Hollywood to making better and more intellegent movies (as opposed to "Titanic"). If LOTR makes a LOT of money on quality of cinema AND wins Oscars for their ability then we might stop seeing movies that only 14 year old girls can watch. We might be able to see a full fledge movie production of other epic novels that only geeks can love. For example "Ender's Game" series (MAN I WOULD DIE FOR THAT!!), "Rendezvous With Ramma", and "Dune" (Done with full budget (that can be read as: NOT painted backdrops!!)). . .
Titanic had 11 oscars, but if you notice, NONE were for acting and/or quality of plot. They had all the technical stuff down, FX, sounds, Costumes. ..etc. I can only hope they reward Jackson's et al. creative ability on plot (Screenplay) and Ian's ability to act. I don't want LOTR to get only Tech oscars. ..they deserve better!
I hate to compare a movie of epic proportions like LOTR to the slimemold of Titanic.
I only wish that normal radio were headed to that landfill! I HATE homogenized radio!
"And now back to N-SYNC, Britney, and other people who can't play a real instrument if we held a gun to their head, on Star. Don't worry, we won't play anything that might make you think."
San Diego is so devoid of radio competition that we have 1 independent radio station worth listening to. The rest of our stations are Clear Channel or clarity or something corperate radio. Sure we have some PBS action and all that stuff, but no real choices when it comes to blues, rock, techno/electronica/trance/goa, alternative, etc. I am going to get XM radio installed if only for the divirsity of music that we SHOULD have already! Why can't I just like what everyone else likes?
Maybe that is why I am here. . .;)
Does anybody have any realworld experiance with XM?
True! TRUE! The sad part is that Hollywood probably concidered it.
PETER KEETING: "HEY! I got an idea for that new LOTR movie. Lets appeal to the teenage female market. ..with. ..(See list above)"
ELSWORTH TOOHEY: "PERFECT! I am sold! How much do you need? 10 billion?"
Yes, that was an Ayn Rand reference. ..sorry.

Behind the Scenes

Exactly! And personally I am REALLY glad they already filmed all three so even if the first doesn't come off well with the public, I will still be able to see the others.
(I can't trust a public who fell in love with Titanic:)
Yes, special effects (D&D) alone do not make a good movie (Pearl Harbor, Titanic, Mummy). BUT we are not dealing with just any old story. We are dealing with The Lord Of The Rings. This storyline has been read by so many, and adored by such a large following of fans that as long as they stuck to the book and have "decent" actors, this movie should come off better than Liv Tylor's dress!
The only thing that could've ruined this movie is if they placed Leo DeCaprio as Frodo.

Da Vinci Bridge Built

Very true! Most of Da Vinci's inventions would and have failed due to such issues relating to materials, but that is if we are looking from a stictly engineering standpoint.
For me DaVinci's inventions are not going to be "better" than what we invented in the last few hundred years. He did however show incredible creativity. IMHO (which isn't much when I am not talking about biology or C/C++ programming ) its not the fact that it is "better" than current, its the fact that it was thought of hundreds of years before it was possible to complete.
Now that we see that Linux is a feasable option, perhaps all the computer superstore chains will finally start shipping machines to the public with LINUX installed default *GASP*. As the old poll fortold, Cowboy Neal did well this time, but he still has a lot of work to do! Must be tough when the future of linux rests in your cabable hands.;)
Perhaps a new poll should be "Which linux Distro is going to make a profit next?"
If you want to go COMPLETELY silent, try Enermax Whisper Series ($70 for 350 watt mentioned earlier in another post) and go with a Zalman HSF for the cpu. Then you could go to a stereo store and buy some Dynamat, which is a sound absorbing sheet. If it still is not quiet enough buy a white noise or noice cancelation device.
Apparently the sponsor of the bill is one Sen. Toni Harp. Why not write her an email with your thoughts (TRY to leave out the violence that is inherent in our gaming culture;) OR better yet, write her a letter (We still live in a world that e-mail does not matter as much a a REAL letter!)

Well here in San Diego we have a radio/tv campaign going about stating, "Don't bully kids. Thats not cool" Or something like that. . .
Point is that here in San Diego we are not blaming the games, Hollywood, or even gun manufacturers. Someone had the bright idea to actually look at the root of the problem and NOT try to sue the fsck out of every last corporation.

Well, Shakespear in Love DOUBLED its ticket sales AFTER its Oscar nominations (it was re-released). Just to show that Oscars = $$ for films.
