That figure is only so high because it wasn't meant for online play. When you have a LAN 256 Kbps per player is easy. I think the games designed for xbox live use much less bandwidth. But still, I WOULD NOT want to be playing with people on dial up.

Xbox Live is 10 times more fun than the other two consoles' online games. All games use live chat, you can invite people to your game even if they're playing another game, you have a friends list that tells you if they're online and what they're playing. If you haven't tried it there doesn't seem like much of a difference between Xbox Live and the PS2 or Gamecube online games. Xbox Live is to PS2Online as Tivo is to VCR.

No, no, no. "So did Occam" means Occam also felt that things should be made as simple as possible but not simpler. I was just pointing out that people misuse the razor by saying "the simplest answer is usually the right one," and that's not quite what Occam said. So "although many people seem to assume otherwise" is referring to the fact that most people don't realize that Occam *does* say the "but not simpler part. "So did Occam" was referring to what Einstein said. ie Not only did Einstein believe it "So did Occam". Sorry for the poorly phrased post.

The whole point of democracy is (in theory) that everyone has an equal vote. The fact that each person's influence is proportional to his share, regarding things that should be in THE PUBLIC SPHERE is exactly the problem.

Yeah, I knew water expanded when it froze, and I also knew that any object in water will only displace as much water that will equal itself in mass. I dunno, I guess I just didn't think it through to conclusion. thanks tho.

  19. Re:Uh... on Global Warming will Open Northwest Passage · · Score: 1

Actually, isn't water MORE dense than ice? Which means it takes up less space. I know most materials are different, but water actually becomes less dense in the solid form, not more dense. More dense means the same amount of mass will take up less space, no? Therefore, the water will not take up less space. Of course, since ice is less dense, it floats, so the water level will stay the same.

  20. Re:Uh... on Global Warming will Open Northwest Passage · · Score: 1

Ice is less dense. Exactly. So if 1/ of the ice is sticking out above the water, and 4/5 is under the water, then when that whole ice cube melts, it will become water, and therefore it will become more dense, and will therefore take up only 4/5 of what it used to take up when it was solid. It becomes more dense, therefore it takes up less space.

  21. Re:Uh... on Global Warming will Open Northwest Passage · · Score: 0

No, and that's precisely the point. The ice that is above the water, when melted, will do it's part to raise the water level.
