  9. OSX? on Linux Spurs MS Price Cuts · · Score: 0, Redundant

After trying OSX, I am sure Microsoft has nothing to worry about. That is the worst Operating SYstem I have ever used. Windows is a heck of a lot faster, and WAY MORE STABLE!

  10. Why I run Windows on What's Keeping You On Windows? · · Score: 1

Well, I prefer Linux over Windows, but I work in a Windows world and there are just those few critical Apps that don't run in Linux, like Office. I have tried all of the Open Source Office Suites, but they are just not up to par with Microsoft Office. I also do web development and graphics work, so I need the Adobe tools, in order to give my clients the files they need to work with my work.

I went out and tried the OS X thing, but honestly, that OS crashed more than any OS I have ever used, and after a month on it, I went back to a PIII 800 running XP and it was so much faster. The interface was so much nicer, smoother, and it doesn't crash on me. OSX was crashing 3 or 4 times a day, and I could just never get over the menu bar being fixed at the top of the screen (the stupidist thing about Macs).

I would love for Adobe to make their products on Linux, and for the XFree86 team to redo the code and make XWindows more efficient and user friendly. I would love to switch over to Linux full-time. I had for almost 2 years while in College, but the real world runs Windows, and thus, so do I.

I was using Virtual PC to run Visual Slick Edit, as I too was excited about the New OSX. I could only take it for a few weeks before I sold the Mac and bought a top of the line PC instead. Much faster than anything on the Mac anyway. I was running it on a dual GHz machine with 1.5GB RAM, so the system resources weren't the issue, it was simply Virtual PC.

  13. My PIII Was faster on Is Mac OS X Slow? · · Score: 1, Informative

I bought into the new OSX and went out and bought a DUAL 1GHZ fully loaded with 1.5GB RAM and everything else I could put in it. After selling it on eBay after a month of use, I went back to my PIII 866 and Windows ran so Much Faster. Things like openning applications and dragging the Windows around and resizing them were a lot faster on the PC. I will never buy into that Apple BS again.

  14. Re:Thinking about switching... just need some advi on Flirting With Mac OS X · · Score: 0

I was doign the same thing, only on a dual 1GHz G4 Desktop with 1.5GB RAM. Virtual PC is not worth the money you spend on it. It is very slow and if you the the graphics lag in OSX is bad, wait until you try to run an app in VirtualPC. Sold my whole system and am going back to Linux/Windows. I just don't understand how Apple can only be at 1GHz and so openly lie about how much faster there stuff is. They are SLOW!

  15. I made the switch, and am coming back! on Flirting With Mac OS X · · Score: 0

Don't make the switch to Apple. I just did, it was very expensive, and I am now coming back to Intel. All I can tell you is that the Dual 1GHz G4 ran slower than my PIII 866 on just about everything. Applications are very slow to open. There is serious lag when moving windows around. You have to move the the bottom right of the window every time you want to resize it. The menu bar is fixed at the top of the primary screen with only one showing at a time. This may not seem big, but beleive me, it gets super annoying, especially if you are running two or more monitors. I had the completely juiced up top-of-the-line G4. All of this talk about Apples being faster than PCs is a bunch of crap! OSX is also very unstable. IT freezes all the time. And forget about doing any kind of development on that platform. All of the tools out there really blow! But hey, what do you expect from a company that still ships with only a single button on the mouse? I made a $3500 mistake, and am advising you not too.

  16. Good Testing Tools on Testing Products for Web Applications? · · Score: 0

Check out Mercury Interactive for Astro Quick Test, Astra Load Test, WinRunner and LoadRunner (not the game). Then also check out Segue Software for Silt Test and Silk Performer. I have used all of these tools and they are all great. I tend to lean toward the Mercury ones, as the scripts use common languages like C and VB. Segues use a proprietary language, but they have a lot of nice functions built in to them that you would have to create manually with the Mercury tools. Training and support for both companies is comparable. They are expensive though.

  17. #5 Menu Bar is enough reason to not change on Apple Explains Interface Differences · · Score: 0, Flamebait

I have switched to Mac, from Windows, and I'll tell you one of the reasons I might switch back is that single Menu bar. It is so annoying to have a window open on the lower half of the screen, or on a second screen on my dual monitor setup, and have to navigate all the way to the top left of the screen to get to the menus. I don't know how Apple can think this is better. This and the fact you can only resize a window in the bottom right have to be two of the most annoying things about an apple, enough that I will probably sell this crapintosh on eBay and buy 3 pcs with the money.
