Yeah well all of the attacks that apply to DES do not apply to AES [read the paper dude]. You have to realize that AES is based on the research gained in the decades after DES.
That doesn't mean that AES is invulnerable, just less likely to fall to an attack faster than brute force than DES is.
The problem with Serpent is that the security arguements were heuristic. Rijndael's security is based on the fact that after eight of the ten rounds there are 50 active sboxes. That makes the best differential or linear trail have an amazingly low probability. Rijndael is also a complete cipher after two rounds.
In the case of Serpent the design relies on having a ton of rounds for security since the branch number of the linear transform is not known.
That's a fairly immature statement. You're "make your own press" is like forcing all citizens to make up their own newspaper because they might lie or have prejudices.
See Slashdot has the money and equipment. I say gimme 10K and I can setup [and professionally host] my own news system too!
And considering that Slashdot types are all OSS gung-ho super anti-everything I'm surprised to see that reject virtually everything. Sure I bet they get alot of crap but I am not the only one "whining" about having legitimate posts rejected...
My question has legitimate basis though. I mean if I went to your house and smashed in your computer with a sledge hammer, that could a cramp in your productivity. Similarly if I'm infected, do nothing about it and infect your machine, etc...
I think you're right though, there is too much legal crap floating around. I can understand perhaps why they would rejected it. Most likely they *did* reject it because it wasn't about linux [or about bashing ms]
As for XML/MS I don't even know what XML is. I use pure HTML [and lots of perl] on my website. There are people with a well balanced sense of the universe. Some people use both Linux and Windows. Some people like supporting netscape and ie, some people prefer both pepsi and coke!
I just posted a simple AskSlashdot story about whether people unknowingly infected with a virus are responsible for their computer.
Naturally since I didn't include Linux in the subject they rejected it in under an hour.
What's up with Slashdot? News for nerds. More like "Linux good, windows bad".
Who the heck cares about Linus bashing some retards on a newsletter. There is more to the tech world than stupid Linux.
I'd say the slashdot editors should grow up a bit and develop a "subitastory" system where users can rate the top level story. That way when they goto slashdot.org they can choose to see only those stories that have a sufficiently high rating, while at the same time won't censor all stories not about linux.
What about your right to an education? I often feel outside a nice utopian society sending the average kid to school for 14 years [my province had a 13th grade at one point so thats KG to grade 13] is a big waste of resources that could be spent giving them a mop and pail.
I agree that in a utopian society everyone should be free to say and do as they please. But we don't live in utopia [mainly because people are afraid to just let go of money, country borders and religion] and we have to make artificial rules to make sure society works.
Let's not forget that free speech can hurt just as much as it can heal. Hate speech is a good example. No good comes out of bashing blacks [erm. african americans] or homosexuals, but that is a protected right [at least in the states].
Kazaa is a system [as far as I gather] much akin to gnutella. If that is correct what is wrong with it being shut down?
Let's see, you have commerical music on your computer, you didn't pay for it, tell me again why this isn't illegal?
Who gave you the right to steal other peoples work and claim "its allright because I say so". Who cares that you have a "digital" copy and you didn't steal physical material. You're enjoying someone elses work without payment that is stealing.
If you like the music/movies you have on your computer so much, why not pay for copies so the people who made them can pay their staff and all. For example, MGM may be a multi-billion dollar company, but the joe-blow working for $40K certainly would like to keep his job. So while you guys pirate stuff the big giants (like MGM, RIAA, and all the other studios) still make their billions of dollars at an expense of laying off their staff!
I say down with all file sharing systems. They're just wrong and detract from the proper open spirit nature of the internet. Yes we should share information, but only that which we rightfully obtain!
As far as I know there is no right in canada to own a gun. Its a privilege, just like owning a house, driving a car or eating Pizza on wednesdays.
The problem I see with alot of political issues in the states is there are too many Zealots. Yes, everyone should have an opinion, but not everyone with an opinion should change society by themselves.
Again you make reference to Russia. You realize that they had far more advances in medical science then we [americans] during the cold war?
Why is medical science hampered in the states? Because big mouth catholics force their will on others.
I personally wouldn't fear the g', I'd fear loud mouth yentas
You're position is that the guns give you freedom. That's just plain wrong. I live in Canada, I don't own a gun. But I'm relatively free.
The people are the ones that take your freedoms not the inanimate guns.
And you casually refer to things like the square as if civil violence is unknown in the states. Hey lets hate us some nigga!
Seriously learn to think critically about your *OWN* country before you try to think critically about anyone elses. You'll find that the US is not such a peachy clean society and morally upright as you think it is. Oh yeah, and you have gun rights! So that blows your entire post out of the water.
I'm canadian. I have free speech. So I'm not "egocentric" since thats part of canadian culture.
In the US and Canada you don't have the right to drink pepsi. [its a privilege]. So we are going to lobby for the right to drink pepsi?
It's cultural. Who are you to judge another culture based on your own?
The US is not perfect [nor is canada]. Just because you have a particular right doesn't mean they should too.
I.e you have the right to own a gun. The average chinese person probably [don't know for sure] doesn't see the relevence to defend gun rights. They have less gun violence too! So we should force gun rights on the chinese too?
Or is free speech the only PC thing to talk about since you're a karma whore bitch!
This is a nice rant but it goes to show off the egocentricity of most U.S citizens. Just because you think you have the right to free speech in the states doesn't mean thats true elsewhere in the world.
You apply your values and morals on everyone from around the world because you can't imagine someone unlike you.
These are different people from a different culture. If there way of life curtails free speech then so be it.
Ask yourself this though, how many violent crimes were there in China vs. the states last year?
There are a million ways to compare two countries. In some cases the US looks better and others China.
My point is that you cannot just openly apply what you think of as "the norm" to other cultures and then belittle them when it doesn't match.
Hmm the irony of free speech zealots. Its only their speech their interested in sponsoring.
Seriously, how many positive MS stories do you guys post here? Um zero, but 99% of the home PC world uses windows. They can't all be unhappy customers, otherwise why would MS be so popular?
Slashdot, the forum of unhappy Linux users. Why are they unhappy? Because they can't figure out how to setup Linux!:-)
See that's the irony of business. You're sole task is to make more money then the next guy. You want your share and his too. Then when you get it you form a monopoly and oops everyone hates you.
Quite frankly, you're all a bunch of sore losers. MS stepped in when the market was new. They dominated, did bad things, and have been punished before.
The fact they are a monopoly now is not because they unfairly ran a business, its because they are better at it.
And don't forget tell your 6 yr old kid "Have fun, be young, drink pepsi". Bitching about MS installing IE explore with Win95 to get you "hooked" is equivalent to bitching at car dealers for installing FM radios preset to a local station.
You can always choose not to use IE [even if its installed] it just happens thats the default.
Why not make a graphics card with the following components.
1. 64MB of fast ram
2. A basic VGA core [fixed]
3. A FPGA core [a big fast one]
That way you always have the basic VGA [2D stuff] and then you can reprogram the FPGA core todo whatever you need. That way you can configure your board to be optimal for different applications.
Hi, I'm slashdot, the host of many "fight for your right mediums" that will let you post anything you want [which is good] but will mod down anything they disagree with [is wrong just on principle]
Why do you guys even host a feedback mechanism if all you're gonna do is disagree with all competent user feedback?
If the story wasn't that interesting the first time why would be interesting this time?
Now what I want is to go into a store and get a full fledge PDA for 100$, not 599$ or 459$, etc...
Who cares if it has 256MB of ram, a 24-bit colour display, 16-bit sound, a 1.4ghz cpu...
if it costs a g$ its not really worth it.
I figure it this way. PDA's are just sophisticated gameboys. You can't tell me you bought yours to keep track of your appointments, etc. You're a nerd! get a grip!

Come to think of it, why would I spend 10K on a news/feedback website just to have twirps write insightful things like "suck my dick"...
Bah new slogon
Slashdot. Bad habbit!

Is it just me or is everyone today comming up with their own license [i.e license unique to gcc, gimp, apache, mozilla, etc...]
Why not just a common sense license?
1. Don't copy this without giving credit.
2. Don't remove this license
3. Goto 1.

You seem to forget that the internet is not as closed system as the phones are.
I mean, as a website owner I can log and display your IP on my pages [actually I do] all I want.
Your ISP owns the log of what you visit too, not you. So they can give out the log if they want [and lose customers at the same time I imagine].
I agree that scrutiny should be placed on divulging logs to people but in the log run it isn't a big deal.
What if I as a website owner submitted [voluntarily] my access_log to the government. Would I be violating your rights then?
Are you guys not just getting excited over sheet all nothing?
So the G can find out who is using cable modem, they can even find your IP?
Goto my website, I can find your IP too...
Oh no, watch out, its the boogy man!

Showing off how good linux is.... er, hem, er, by emulating windows games!
Rock on.

Hahahaha. Why is everyone against MS anyways? Basically they're better business people then the linux zealots.
Sore losers!

Yeah, but what is the alternative?
See that's the irony of business. You're sole task is to make more money then the next guy. You want your share and his too. Then when you get it you form a monopoly and oops everyone hates you.

Why is buying a mac a good thing? Then when MS gives all its money to MAC, MAC will be the monopoly, then it can give it back!
No there should be a quota. Not 1B dollars but 150K installs or something...
Ok funny, what are the alternatives? Supply shitty, undocumented OSes like linux?
Common, the best thing Linux can do is emulate the functionality of windows.
Besides whats wrong with learning MS tools like windows and iexplorer? At least they work!
