I don't think Razor qt is ready for distro based off it. I use it on Gentoo and it's mostly functional, although rough around the edges in spots. For instance there's no feedback when clicking on icons, no volume control and there isn't a theme manager hooked into the gui. Aside from click feedback I really wish there was a way to bring up a run command dialog. I'm not sure what the development pace is, but I'm sure most of this stuff will be cleaned up within the next release or two.

Not even addressing the possibility of saving for college, even something mundane like driving a kid to soccer practice requires both time and money. With more of both a person might be looser with income.

Er... actually that would be exactly the reason. Part of being social for most people is about bullshit and appearances. You sound like you'd be the sort of employee who would properly do his job most of the time, and not be so concerned with "looking like a hard worker". Depending on what you're employer (or who's hiring) wants, you may or may not fit into that work environment, but if they're looking for facebook stuff it's likely you wouldn't.

  10. Maybe it'll be dead, but it will be a while on With Cinavia DRM, Is Blu-ray On a Path To Self-Destruction? · · Score: 1

The only reason that streaming services haven't completely phased out Blu-rays is the fact that a majority of the consumers don't have a fast and reliable Internet connection. Once such connections become ubiquitous, most of the titles owned by consumers would probably end up being stored in the cloud.

Aren't we already supposed to be in the time of "ubiquitous" high speed internet access? Besides which as much as they may claim that streaming is just as good, it's usually the case that most consumers don't have a good enough connection to receive bluray quality (even if they have high speed access). Assuming you care about that.

Bluray makes some things look great, but it's not that much better than DVD in many cases. Not even counting bluray releases that are crap transfers. The main reason I stick to disk for things (I like enough to purchase) is due to the fact that I can watch them whenever I want. In particular when my internet connection goes down I can at least still watch something if that's what I felt like doing. Considering my 1) router can break 2) cable modem stops working 3) comcast doesn't work 4) netflix is down, is a lot more to go wrong than player going into my TV. Not to mention that all those examples of internet related problems (comcast in particular) happen quite often, but my TV setup hasn't failed me.

"The cloud" isn't at the level of reliability I'd like, nor is it at a level of trust I believe in.

  14. Re:Drawings != child porn on Canadian Charges Against US Manga Reader Dropped · · Score: 2

This sounds a lot like the law that was put into place in Britain (or maybe they were just considering it, I can't recall), where the "presumed age" of imaginary characters didn't matter, the likeness to being a child is all that does. Considering anime/manga styles, the difference between a 40 year old woman and a 14 year old girl may only be a matter of which one is wearing a school uniform. Never mind trying to class something like a 300 year old vampire that was bitten at12 years of age when they gained immortality. A lot of people saw how trying to enforce law over fantasy was going to be a big mess, and sure enough it is. Laws are meant to deal with reality, and can't cope with imaginary scenarios. The easy way is of course to just prosecute everyone as criminals. Not surprising that's usually the course taken these days.

There is a LOT of stuff worth less than a Used Ethernet Cable by that measure. What's the sample size anyway? If 2 people do this, is that considered "enough"? I can get two people to sacrifice their privacy for free by sticking a pop up window in front of them saying "naked chicks if you click here". Yeah, non rectangular boundaries doesn't sound like an improvement. It just sounds like it's making things harder to click. You should already have a good indication if something is going to run by the icon highlighting with a mouse hover, so I'm not sure why reducing the click area is a benefit.

I've been ok with the KDE4 changes (not ecstatic but ok with them), but I haven't been happy with dolphin. For some reason I've found it very clunky. I've tried various settings, but nothing seems to work better for me either. Multi column view seemed promising but the implementation is rather bad. If you have a file with a very long name, the column can stretch all the way across your screen and you have to manually scroll back to click on the next directory. Directories aren't highlighted either, so you have no idea what directory a column is actually shown. (that seems very basic mistake that hasn't been corrected).

Considering all the different implementations and ideas floating around in file managers, I'm surprised that dolphin hasn't implemented some of the better ones... well, better.

Now I've got a PS2 and a PS3 on my shelf. Aside from Valkyria Chronicles, all the other games I have for the PS3 are only ok at best. My library of games I LOVE for the PS2 is a fair size, and it seems more and more likely that it will be bigger than the list of must have games for the PS3 and PS4 combined. If I had to choose between them, I'd stick with the 2.
