Would wget -N http://www.foobar.baz/rss.xml still grab the whole file or would it honor the 304?? Just curious, I use a bash script (once a day) that calls wget to grab podcasts.
Sprint and T-Mobile each use a different underlying technology. Sprint's is CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access), while T-Mo's is TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access). Guess which one needs towers placed more closely to the user.
The T (time) part of TDMA means that as you get far enough away from the tower your roundtrip times will exceed the time interval the tower expects to find your signal. next

Do you use Treo300SMS? Having to pay a third party to send SMS on a $500 smartphone really chaps my ass. =)
I'd be very interested in seeing your sms-sprint script. I'm fairly new to perl, but I have some code that grabs usage info from sprintpcs.com. It'd be nifty to parse that into an SMS and send.
I'd like to work on getting something for sprintpcs (like your script) integrated into the WWW::SMS module.
Email would work but you get that pesky "No caller id" message. Tho it's not like you'll be calling yourself. Anyway, I'd love to see what you have.
Depending on the amount of data you need to transmit.. GENRIP, GENeric Radio IP, based on STRIP , may work for you. As discussed here before, it basically extends IP over any serialized radio. So, you can choose your own frequency and power.

You may want to try these patches for your keyboard. If you like using console much, this kernel patch is pretty cool. You may need to play with the keycodes a bit, but either will work, and you won't need to wait for Logitech to write itouch software.
You might be interested in midori linux by Transmetta. It uses a web based configurator, and builds from source. It's been a while since it's been updated, but lately the CVS has been quite active. This is probably due to the flurry of tablet PCs using the transmetta chips.
I use IceWM with Rox.. quite nice.. and very light.. but you lost me after that.. gnucash for example has some crazy requirements.. like libKitchenSink.so.. and if you are going to have all the gnome cruft for gnumeric why not just run Galeon. Opera is either static (yeah, that's light), or you need to have qt and openmotif (for plugins). Links2, with it's new gui mode, is really nice and light. It's only 2.7MB here, and that's with svga/X, ssl, and cookies. =)
As was pointed out elsewhere in this thread, this isn't really getting you anywhere. Short term maybe. But what will you do when XYZ bank looks at their server logs and sees that 99.999% of their "cutomers" are IE users. That's right, ActiveX controls, or some other nastiness.
Don't say that I didn't warn you.

p.s. you could just edit your prefs.js file.. if you really want to use ActiveX.
Yes, they do use php. I've got a card with them. Their rejection message is funny.. something about having a version 4 or better browser. And, I really like the message you get when you log out that suggests you exit your browser completely for security. At that point, I usually burn/whack/destroy my pc like Pete Townsend/Jimi Hendrix. Hopefully that keeps the baddies out of my CC account.
I should note that my online billpay service, paytrust.com, is most excelent and works flawlessly with mozilla (galeon).
