    If Sony et al had any class they would be spending their cash on buying back HD-DVD players and media (bought at early adopter prices) in exchange for discounts on BR players, not paying off other manufacturers or content makers. I'm not advocating full refund - those buyers were taking a chance after all - but say the $ difference between a BR player and a current upconverting DVD player.

    I was with you until the last bit. I wouldn't want the device getting "SIM Card error" or getting wiped out because a nearby football stadium was emptying out and everyone was calling home. The celltower will provide less obstruction and piggyback on hardline, microwave link or whatever trunk type the tower is using to route the calls received, plus a QoS agreement so if it's a choice between adding on one more "honey I'm leaving now" or routing the Mode S traffic the cellphone is the one who gets dropped.

    As Cuba could export sugar cane to a third country ethanol producer they would still have an US originated income which would drive the Helms Burton people nuts. This would put Cuba in the front door of an Ethanol OPEC group if they had a significant influence on cane prices.

    Let's face it, if there are enough Slashdotters to break websites in seconds, there's enough to vote in some congressmen.

    How to get them to vote? If Taco offered karma points to people who can prove they voted somehow. A ThinkGeek "I /.ed Congress" t-shirt would help too. 100% turnout from eligible voters would follow - in fact some non US citizens would probably find a way to vote to get karma.
