  1. Maybe not computer use... on Computers and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Studied · · Score: 4, Funny

But I know for a fact that a 10 hour playstation session can cause me to develop some awful pain in my fingers.

Is Nintendo thumb an accepted medical term yet?

  2. A few things I'd like to see. on Cellphones On Airplanes · · Score: 1

    1) Rule against using the phone during the movie, uless you have 2)

    2) Possible "phone booth" where you can use your phone and not piss off everyone around you. This could be 1/2 the size of a regular phone booth for all I care. I know space is a huge issue on planes, so I don't know if this would work. What about where they have the existing "Air Phones"? You should have to go there to use your phone.

I think the airlines are looking for some

Amen to that. I can hardly imagine what death due to caffeine overdose would be like. I once took 3 caffeine pills in high school (.357 Magnums, they were called. Even shaped like little bullets) in an all-night attempt to finish a report, and I was f__ked up. I couldn't stop shaking. My knees were knocking together as I typed. Someone came up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder the next morning, and I almost hit the ceiling. I felt physically ill for about 6 hours, and crashed hard by that afternoon. I was 18 at the time, so I could write my own notes to go home, which I did promptly after handing in that damn report.

That was only a little over 1 gram of caffeine, plus a couple cups of coffee. So I'll guess 1.5 grams. 10 grams would be no fun. No fun at all...

  4. Re:Looks like they're not the only ones who can't on WorldCom Fraud Doubles · · Score: 1

I believe the first time around they claimed $3.8B in accounting errors.

    Now they've found another $3.3B.

    $3.8B + $3.3B = $7.1B

Which is over 7 billion dollars. Voila! That wasn't so hard to figure out...

  5. Re:This is an easy one. on Directors Guild of America is Fighting Edited Films · · Score: 1

The flaw in your argument is that the film you buy/rent/whatever is a copy of the original. I'm guessing you can buy a print of the Mona Lisa and do whatever you want to it.

On the same note, the film editors have no right to take the master copy of the film from the studio and alter it. Making changes to a reproduction is not the same thing as altering an original.

  6. Re:Changes the dynamic of the business on Borrowing ROMs · · Score: 1

I feel kinda sorry for the authors. They get shafted by the publishing companies, who in turn get badly shafted by the major bookstores (Like Chapters/Indigo here in Canada). They hardly get any royalties at all.

It's a lot like the music industry. There's the ultra successful few, and then there's the millions just trying to get by on the measley handouts from the RIAA.

Still, it's not going to stop me from buying used books at the bookstore. It's up to the vendors to report sales, not me.

  8. Katz as troll on Spider-Man, Star Wars and the Power of Myth · · Score: 1

After reading this review, there little doubt left in my mind that Katz is purposely baiting the slashdot community in order to get everyone all fired up.

He's probably realized that he's going to get flamed no matter what he writes, so he puts up this review filled with errors and inaccuracies, with words such as "elephantine" thrown in just to see how many cries of plagiarism come up.

Aside: Use of the word elephantine does not constitute plagiarism. The rest of the paragraph, excluding that word, had nothing in common with the NYT review. But I digress...

1: I'm sure he must know Batman is DC, not marvel, if he's as big a fan of comics as he says.

2: A wolverine with fingers of steel? Again, he's just taunting you guys...

3: Throw in some reference to 9/11 for good measure.

4: Sit back and watch the flames roll in.

I think it's hilarious. Katz probably does too...

Didn't Dr. Who use a couple of these babies to power the Tardis? If travel through space/time is possible with a C64, then realaudio should be a piece of cake.

Hmm, this comes out just a couple of days after the terrorists claimed to have placed backdoors and other security flaws into WinXP.

Likely they were just playing the odds, tho. Microsoft's history of security problems almost guaranteed that there would be some problems.

Perhaps Nintendo is using the acronym GCN (Game Cube: Nintendo) so there is no confusion with the generic acronym of NGC (next generation console).
