"Losers in the deal are HP, Intel, and Sun. Especially Sun. Those guys are in trouble."
Especially HP. Those guys are the losers. Their hardware is cheaply made and getting worse by the month while their main competitor Dell is still chugging along eating up the market. It's too bad HP won't spin off the printer division (the only people in that company with a decent product) so they can make a profit.
Judging by the vast majority of comments here, I'd say that the people who played the game won't being going to this movie, and I doubt anyone who didn't play the game will see the movie, so who is actually going to show up for this thing?
RC kits for flying lawn mowers have been available for years. There are other rediculous flying this as well, several of which are available from this store, which happens to be the first link on the page when I Googled it. There are lots more where that came from, including a flying witch, flying doghouse, flying US flag, and a flying stop sign.
Your donation will be used to fund the Firefox 1.0 launch campaign, including the full-page ad. Details about other aspects of the launch campaign will be available as we approach launch date.
They mention some release parties on the front page, so I assume that's where some of the money is also going. I think it would be much more effective if 100% was going to the ad, and not a release party that really doesn't do much to spread the word.
I have a EULA (End User License Agreement) specifically forbidding the use of any image(s) of me being used for commercial or government use taped to the top of my tin-foil hat.
This is a common mistake when considering the DPI of printers and monitors. They are not measured in the same way. I would try to explain it here, but the wikipedia entry does a better job than I could.
I don't know if i really like this NOUSE thing. Moving my mouse around is the only excersize I get. I've moused 1,736,945,879 miles so far this year, and lost 3 pounds! I'm down to 268!!!
On the other hand, the creamy filling from twinkies wouldn't clog up my optical mouse every day...
A certain nationwide bookstore I know of is running their cash registers in a DOS window. It works well, for the most part, but there are definitely some pretty serious user interface problems that I think would be corrected if it weren't running in DOS.
On the other hand, the hardware they are using is pretty old too, so aside from using some of the free alternatives out there, I think a newer OS would bring the poor computers to their knees.
Actually, the original poster was wrong. It clearly states under the "Platform" section of the site that the ARES is an "autonomous powered airplane", and one of the artist renditions shows blue exhaust from some kind of jet propulsion (not that an artists rendition is worth much, but I doubt they would allow much artistic license in this case).
Read that sentence a little closer. It says that 25% of the connections were deliberate, and among those connections, 71% were used for spam. That means that something like 17% of the total connections were used for spam.
The other 75% is the part that is presumably connecting by mistake.
The ISS is routinely resupplied by the Progress series of cargo ships launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. These are basically automated, unmanned Soyuz vehicles designed specifically for the purpose of bringing fuel, oxygen, water, and other supplies to space stations. The astronauts aboard the ISS are in no immediate danger due to the possible delay of the next shuttle launch.
"Kreidenko said a secondary booster, which was due to propel the satellite to a higher altitude, had malfunctioned and was circling the earth separately from its payload."
That's what they call a malfunction? I imagine it's a pretty big deal that the booster stay attached to function properly. Sounds like someone forgot to use something better than velcro to attach the two.
Standard Oil, US Steel, and several other huge companies have proved that vertical integration* is definitely the way to run a business. As far as I can tell, outsourcing IT is in direct opposition to this practice. It seems to me there are a few CIOs and CEOs who need to retake their intro to history/business classes. IT should be an integral part of any business that uses computers, not a bolt-on afterthought with a big pricetag.
* Vertical Integration is the practice of owning all of the aspects of your business. Rockefeller slaughtered his opposition by buying barrel manufacturing capabilities to store the oil, railroads to transport the oil, etc., all of which lowered his costs and provided a larger degree of control over the major factors immediately outside his core business of selling oil.
Couldn't this software also be used to confuse actual end-user's wireless cards that try to find the legitimate AP? Seems like most wireless cards/software would have a hard time finding the real AP if there are 53,000 fake ones to choose from.
Why not just make it display your body as a muscular hunk/curvy hot chick instead? You could even have the suit display you as your favorite movie star/athlete/model. The only problem arises when you have to take the device off after it's done its duty:)
The theory postulates that approximately 2 million years ago an AIDS-like epidemic wiped out a large portion of the chimpanzee population. Those that survived developed an immunity to AIDS and its variants.
First of all, those chimps that survived were already immune. Secondly, the article acts like this is a new idea. Darwin, evolution, survival of the fittest. Anything sound familiar here?
"The web is going to make a smaller, wiser world."
I know she said she's not the most computer-savvy person around, but has she seen the web lately? It's about 90% porn! (The other 10% is taken up by failed dot-coms who haven't figured it out yet) Sure, I use that 90% just as much as anyone else, but I don't think I'm any wiser for it.
I know most of you are gonna go on about how Starbucks is evil and a bunch of other irrational bullshit...
Oh common. Starbucks is not going to be happy if someone is offering free wireless service that could undermine the Starbucks for-profit service. According to one of the posts above yours (and posted earlier), Starbucks knew there was already wireless equipment in the area, and they chose to ignore it. Sure, they're just trying to make a profit, and while "evil" is probably too strong a word, they are being jerks about it.
This has nothing to do with trying to wipe out another service like it, it's just geography, it's just a coincidence.
This has everything to do with trying to wipe out another service like it, of course it's geography, and it can't be coincidence if they were aware of the other service before they put in their own.
"University of Queensland researchers say they are receiving data from the rocket, but it is too early to say whether the experiment has been a success."
It seems the "Scramjet Success In Australia" title might be a little premature, as it is at least slightly misguiding.
The Italians obviously have jurisdiction over one of their own citizens. But what if a US citizen (for instance) hosts a mirror of the site in question (in the US), can he/she be arrested if they set foot in Italy? Should we all be more cautious with our online comments and websites to avoid future travel problems?

Hoaxed, huh? Haven't read the poll lately?

I wonder what they'll have to start charging to make up for the loss in billable hours?
On the other hand, the creamy filling from twinkies wouldn't clog up my optical mouse every day...
They would when they saw the progress indicator on their Windows XP Service Pack 2 download.

And here I've been trying to make a living working with computers like a sucker... WORMS FOR SALE!!!!!

It's nice to see the Intel shareholders come out of the woodwork.
