Yeah, free windows suddenly makes it good? I can get windows for free too from my school's library... in fact I got a copy of Win2k back when I had to do a vb.net project for one of my classes. Right now I don't have a single machine running windows. I have 2 linux machines and a laptop running OS X... that's right I'd rather use a mac than windows (plus os x is pretty cool... UNIX with a cool GUI)
Bottom line, windows clustering is needed for a stable windows... linux is already stable. (My one server that I leave on all the time has been up for 115 days now... my roomate accidentally pulled the plug on it 115 days ago)
The best part about clustering with linux is you can choose to install next to nothing. Let's see you try and install windows without an internet browser... can't be done, why?
The problem is the fact that Quartz is so tightly interwined with Mac hardware. The reaspon os x is so cool is because it is UNIX with a good GUI. The GUI is what makes OS X. Darwin has already been ported but I doubt you will see Quartz ported, it's what makes apple unique. Besides, if OS X is so much better than windows why did you buy an x86? I have a tiBook 667 and it is awesome. It's fast, comes out of sleep quicker than any other laptop I've ever seen and the widscreen display is sweet. I also have an AMD Athlon machine that I run linux on... I must say I've had a lot less issues with my laptop and the GUI is much nicer than any window manager I've ever tried (Sawfish, Enlightenment, Blackbox, Windowmaker, Afterstem, fvwm, twm... I've tried tham all) I'm still a strong linux supporter, I love linux for a server but for the desktop my laptop has taken over.
On the plus side, now that I have office for OS X, I have absolutely no need for a windows machine. I've thought about getting VPC but to tell you the truth, I haven't missed windows at all.
So in conclusion I would go with Linux for a server but for average desktop use, I'd have to go with OS X. As for windows... well they belong in the walls in my house so I can look outside.:)
I remember reading somewhere a little while ago that M$ is no longer supporting Win95 or older systems so any new software they put out (Like IE and Office) will only be available for Win98 and up. Also in the same article they said that Win98 is being scheduled to be phased out in 2002. Solution: Install Linux.
I agree that people are attracted to celebrities because they are real but I disagree it is because they make mistakes. I think it has more to do with the fact that anyone can technically be an actor and people like to think about what it would be like to be and the imagination of what it would be like to date If the actors were all CG, you would loose that because then people wouldn't say oh well Tom Cruise free soloed that huge rock in the middle of the desert in MI:2, I could do that because you could make CG characters do anything you wanted. Plus I think it would be weird to see an attractive CG character, especially because I make fun of my roomate who finds some disney animated characters "hot" as he phrased it.
That said, I do think it would be cool to have some CG characters but I don't think they will replace real ones.
but no one would mistake spiderman for an actual person. I think the idea everyone is missing is that the idea is to create a CG image that looks real, not like a saturday morning cartoon.
I believe the whole point was to illustrate that CG characters will eventually look real enough to replace human couterparts. This idea got mixed up with the idea of GC characters as stars. Now your mixing it up with fictional characters represented as stars.
What I think would be cool is if a movie company made a movie with a CG character and not have told anyone. Or get a bunch of unknowns and tell people they have to guess who the CG character is... maybe in a few years when they make a believable CG character.
"The one thing of particular note from my relatively short 23 years so far, is that nothing is inevitable. Things as trivial as this are certainly not inevitable, because things as complex as people with termial diseases do not inevitably die."
Why, did you discover imortality? Everyone dies, it's "inevitable".

Well let's see, this term I'm taking intro to AI where we will learn LISP programming and Robot building lab where we build robots with a kit similar to the mindstorms but a little more powerful... it's a damn shame I don't like emacs.
Actually, there presentation wasn't that great but since it's sponsered by asce it's kindof an academic thing so the presentation/paper etc... is worth more.

Yes, there is a certain percent of cement they need. I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head but if your really interested let me know and I can ask one of my roomates. Both are on the concrete canoe team here at Drexel. Our canoe was cooler, while it didn't do funny things like move forward of it's own accord, it was painted like a lightsaber (we had a star wars theme) and our cheer was "We did it all for the" "Wookie!!!" No one likes UAH... they stayed at a different hotel than all the other teams and don't associate with any other teams. Of course I guess you don't need to when you win every year.

If you take 95 north up to the exit for the oxford valley mall (I forget the exact number or name of the exit) and you want to go left (away from the mall) there is some sort of sensor there that when on my motorcycle I sit forever. Now if I'm up there late at night and I know no one is coming up behind me I'll go right and then turn around in a parking lot or gas station.
The van was equipped with a Global Positioning System, or GPS, which transmits data via satellite. It clocked him "going at speeds in excess of 90 mph on three separate occasions," according to court papers. The internal device did, but the cops didn't.
So what article were you reading?
And some more:
"Even if I had seen the GPS warning, I'd think it was for getting lost, not to track my every move," said Turner. If he had understood the warning came from Big Brother, "I would've requested another car without GPS."
But you might have been misled by the fact that they kept talking about this AirIQ thing that transmits data... a GPS doesn't do that so it must not be a gps right? A quick search on google and a link to a cached page yeilds: http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:s_t1OWKV6rg:w ww.heavydutytrucking.com/1999/09/086a9909.asp+AirI Q&hl=en or if you don't want to read it I'll summarize:
AirIQ offers a trailer tracking product that promises more than just location and the normal sensor information. According to the manufacturer, its GPS product is capable of recognizing and recording border crossings, (a boon for state tax reporting), vehicle speed and trailer maintenance cycles. First and foremost, however, it's a trailer tracking unit.
This is a really good book just like every other pratchett book. I do however prefer to get my pratchett books from amazon.co.uk mainly because the covers are nicer in my opinion.
