Where/When was the first place?, and by who? I think it's pretty obvious that the Israeli government has "played the victim" definitely its fare share throughout history, but if you don't know much about the history well then it can be hard to distinguish who is the victim and who is the agressor....
Okay now before we begin I would like to say that the whole conflict deeply saddens me, but you have to take an objective look at the history.
Now if you want to go way back to the biblical/Torah references all you have to look at is exodus in which Moses led the Jews out of enslavement in Egypt, upon which Joshua took over leadership and attacked and exterminated (genocide) the Canaanites in order to secure the "promise land"
1. Part of it wasn't the Jews to begin with 2. They killed people in order to get it. 3. This is in Jewish text.
History did not begin in 1948 as the Israeli government wants everyone to believe.
but let's move forward to 1937 with the Peel commission. The land now that encompasses modern day Jordan and Israel was then known as the British Mandate of Palestine. That's where the Palestinians get their name.
Now due to an influx of Jewish immigration (encouraged by the Zionist Congress) to the area this sparked lots of conflicts between the resident Arab population leaders and the new Jewish immigrants. Hostilities flared up on both sides and as the Mandate was soon to expire granting sovereignty to the region an agreement was to be sought. Given the populations at this time the Peel commission met to formulate the arrangement and this is what was proposed:
As you can see from the map it looks very different from today's common recognized maps of the region. The peel commission was not agreed upon by the Arabs or the Jewish immigrants as both sides wanted more than what was offered. The largest mistake was in part due to the Arab leaders stating that they could not assure the protection of the Jewish immigrants.
Now as we move forward in history this was debated back and forth as skirmishes still continued to flare up by both sides attacking the other until World War II broke out.
Now Britain, who still claimed the land as a province, was in dire need of financing for it's war with Germany. Members of the Zionist Congress in Switzerland helped in financing Britain's economic needs under pretense that a more favorable arrangement could be made regarding the Jewish Settlements.
In the meantime massive Jewish immigration began to descend upon the British Mandate of Palestine exploding the population.
This of course sparks more conflicts with Arab leaders and residents in the area.
Now once the dust settles on WWII the British Mandate of Palestine expires and the moment it ends Israel declares it's independence. on May 14th, 1948. Now this declaration of independence doesn't sit well with the Arabs in the region as it was still thought to be up for discussion and arrangement.
With the aid of the British forces in the region whom the Arabs had no reason to believe would be allied with the Jewish population they were able to maintain there independence by defeating any aggressive forces put forth by the Arab population.

It's not just watching it. It's the fact that they should not have a copy, and now they do.
What about countries where it isn't released etc.
There are lots of means in which to watch the work. DVD's are a great example. I am certain that if you wanted to watch a movie there is a legitimate means for you to watch it eventually. This notion of instant gratification in terms of "well I want to watch it now, but I can't so that makes it okay" is ridiculous.
Now that is just ONE source. Not excluding bootleggers, usenet, file sharing, IRC etc.
But if I can pull up just 1 means and 308,863 are currently participating now...you can safely deduce that this is a rampant problem.
Look there is no way to go around this. Downloading, Recording, Distributing, Selling, unauthorized is wrong. I know this might sound crazy to people like you that think this behavior is okay, but in an economy consumers should actually pay for a good or service. It's kind of what makes the system work.
You work for or invest in a privately run prison corporation don't you? Any other sane, rational person would realize that we can't afford to keep filling the prisons with non-violent petty offenders.
I said Jail not Prison. Those are different. And most rational people would agree that if people stole from you everyday you would want someone to put a stop to it, or at least the means of a legitimate penalty process. If not cool I'll copy down your credit card numbers and charge things up. Don't call the police or anything...I mean it is only a copy. It's non-violent you can just fine me or something...oh and don't forget to file individual claims on charges against the 1 million plus that are doing it to you everyday.
Actually they'd need to into the store with their lossy clone-o-matics and clone up poor quality copies of those candy bars and then try to sell those. Or to make the crime fit your analogy he'd have to of stolen the actual film reels.
Actually it's the act of making the good less scarce without a means of compensating the creator. Doesn't matter how you do it. It shouldn't be done and you know it.
Aside from finding out a movie sucks, a crappy cam of a flick won't stop someone from seeing the movie in a theater. You're not just paying money to see a film, you're paying to see a film on a large screen with a good audio system. If you didn't want to pay for access to the extras a theater provides you wouldn't go to the theater anyways
Yes it will. If you can buy a DVD bootleg on the street. then some won't pay to go see it in theaters. same with torrents or anything. The fact that someone wanted to watch it is there. That's why these markets exist. People want to watch it...people don't want to pay full price so they look to an alternative.
And as to finding out a movie sucks there are "reviews" and "friends" that saw it that can fill you in.
Look I know this is a MPAAFIA and RIAAFIA kinda place, but really it is wrong. If you want to watch it...pay for it...we all work hard so YOU can laugh...so YOU can enjoy something...if you want to watch it....pay for it...
Yes and we have had extremely high inflation and ticket prices have been raised to offset the losses curtailed.
But when you go back to the last film Titanic that broke all box records it was BEFORE the internet, file sharing, etc. took off.
"indulged in decadence only by a very small handful."
In reality there are tons of people who work in the industry NOT making 20M a picture that help keep things going and they are always the first to pay the price.
In fact mid budget flicks 10-39M are now totally dead. They have to spend "500 000 000" to make projects these days because those are some of the ONLY ones that can make enough real money.
If a small niche project is made for 3M and they spend 3M on advertising. And it makes 1.5M in ticket sales, 1,500,000 in DVD sales and 500,000 Rentals then you lost 2.5M on it. Now if 1,000,000+ are watching it from torrent and usenet crap. and dvd bootlegs... well what is the incentive to focus on those smaller ones.
You can try and make 30-40 of these, but what happens is you are crowding shelf space. There is too much out there...so you have to go BIG BIG to get people's attention.
It's really a very complicated industry, and one that really doesn't need people stealing from it, no matter how rich you think all of us are...
Most of us work unbelievable hard 12-15 hour days 7 days a week just so YOU can laugh, or cry, or say "Woah that was cool"... the least you could do is buy it if you want to watch it...
Actually it does violate the scarcity of the media. You can only view the media at its specified distributor. By making a copy (with a video camera) you in fact make the media less scarce. Anytime you copy ANYTHING you make it less scarce.
Just as if you took a dollar and copied it. That is illegal also. It's not within your rights to copy it . If people were allowed to do that then the dollar would lose value. It's the same with media. It's the media creators rights to determine how and when it can be copied.
Jail is good. If everyone who was doing it went to jail just for one night, I am very confident that there would be a lot fewer people doing it.
The thing is that there are a lot of people that would never steal doing this, but if they realized it would go on there permanent record I think they would stop pretty quickly.
Fines are one thing, but I think that should be reserved for people who are copying the media and putting it up on torrent. Fine them and throw them in jail.
Jail should be enforced. Period. It's theft. Whether you want to admit it or not it is in fact theft.
Let's say you write a piece of software. I like it burn it on a bunch of discs and go hawk it around the street making money off your hard work and labor. And last year you were making 60k off your software and now this year you are making 1k. Would you be upset?
Now if I get a bunch of people together and we all walked into different stores. Pick up a bunch of candy bars, walk out and started selling them on the street should I go to jail... by your logic this is "brainwashing" and the now-defunct business model of retail has no basis as a common social conception of what is and is not morally acceptable because hey "everyone is doing it"
Look what happened is that technology provided people the means to circumvent the traditional sense of commerce associated with these industries. It's still wrong, and everyone knows it.
Now making a back up of a physical copy you purchased. Well that is okay it's your item you bought it. But doing anything that would circumvent the sales and distribution of the product is wrong period.
People will continue to do it as long as there is no real check on it, and jail time is the way to go.
If you want the song buy it. if you want to watch the movie buy it. Don't piss and moan because the industry that you are stealing from wants it to stop and wants people to understand that there should be consequences.
Anything over 12 grand is typically considered a felony. Steal 12 grand worth of candy bars...it's a felony. 4 plasma screens. Felony.
Recording a Film and uploading it on torrent and having 1500 people download it or buy a bootleg copy is the EXACT same thing.
Now if those 1500 people do the same thing... it gets exponentially out of control.
People need to learn to pay for entertainment. Period. And anyone recording in film should be thrown in jail for at least 2 years.
Don't agree with me. Well if where you work 10,000,000 + people are stealing what you do everyday and your industry is contracting because of it well maybe you would see it differently.
It is morally unacceptable because real people are losing there jobs because of it. And people downloading and recording are to blame. So the next time you go and download a song or rip a dvd off torrents think about the key grip who can't feed his family because there isn't any production work going on or the office clerk who lost her job because of cutbacks.
It is affecting real people and piracy is to blame.
Poverty is the number one source of crime. Period. Poverty will not be able to pay for the criminal justice system. So they need to generate revenue to pay for the court houses, jails, etc... this comes from...YOU with your speeding ticket.
Taxes only pay for so much, but how do you know your money is spent effectively in combating crime? YOU DON'T. More people are going to jail and prison everyday, and the truth of the matter is that the streets are not safer, but indeed getting worse.
The individual policeman...it's not his fault he's just part of the system. But really it is the system that is messed up.
Lady Justice wears a blindfold not because justice is equal, but to conceal the tears of a failed system.
I couldn't agree more. I used to be a PC guy and then when I went to film school I started getting hooked on Final Cut Pro and Macs.
Apple is a LONG way from perfect, but considering the other alternatives we really have no choice at the moment. Final Cut Studio is getting bigger and bigger but Compressor sucks and crashes/locksup. Final Cut has a tendancy to give us pinwheel of death...it just really kills us when jobs are on the line and it's the software that's letting us down. The hardware is pretty rock solid...
But the worst part of it is... the blind acceptance that Apple makes everything great and perfect
This screws everyone over. It makes it hard for Apple to gauge what they need to fix because customer survey's say "You all are awesome!". It hurts the consumer because Apple has no idea what they are sucking at and it hurts me the business owner because when I call them and complain they think "Oh he's just a small percentage..."
In december I bought an IPhone. Same thing first personal Apple product. Thing broke after 2 weeks. Went to Apple store and was basically called a liar by the clerk. Then got an apology from Customer Care. Shipped them the broke phone they sent a loaner. Sent back the phone unfixed. Charged me for the loaner. Sent the loaner back. Refunded me only PARTIAL the loaner full price charge. Then the phone heated up a la dell battery.. and they gave me a new iphone because it was deemed "a hazard"...
Honestly there products look good and kinda work, but from a business perspective. They suck. I have to buy their products for business reasons, but I am going to move us away from them... And no apple fanboy is going to change that because I don't take my cues from the blogs or comments, but by real world experience.
This is kind of a blow to the pro-nuclear power constituency, but outages are always a possibility. Safety nets and first response triggers are essential and this problem was corrected rather quickly so I still have confidence in the system.
On a side note: I really hate how every problem requires a clarification that it wasn't Terrorists. We live in a state of fear, and not a state of freedom. Are there people that really freak out and cry "Terrorists!" when something goes wrong these days. I'm not complacent just aware that the probability and capabilities of terrorist groups and there infrastructure aren't as ominous as the media and government perpetuate these days.
I couldn't agree with you more. That tag is extremely racist. And Taco and the rest of the editors should be ashamed of it being on their front page like that.
What will happen in the next 5 years when IPTV becomes a reality to the masses?
This is where I believe we are headed:
All HDTV's will begin to have Ethernet Jacks, a NIC Card, and some embeded linux with a VTR and a HD.
You can Access IPTV/Local/Cable Channels from All over the world. VTR them. Watch YouTube and Other Net Video Channels, and be able to buy Movies for Watching like OnDemand. You can set your VTR from your office etc through your IPTV online account.
Net IPTV Companies will partner w/ HDTV manufacturers to make sure there IPTV Portal is what is the default portal on connecting to the net.
So to bring this back to today. Technology is changing the game so fast that monitoring a 30% rule seems mute because it's tough to measure now and once the HDTV gets on the net how the hell are they going to monitor all that without everybody getting upset. Consumers don't want to be watched by the governement and the internet is a global entity; which makes it difficult to get Viewer numbers on a company that may be overseas.
Well while you think it's a joke... it is not funny.
One they obviously aren't doing it to register people....userid's will be going to be used in promotions groups and other random social networking crap.
All it really translates into Facebook site is big and wants/plans to be bigger. Which is why I put the news?
Geeks get lost in the details but don't look at this big picture and that is why most geeks work for suits.
This has to one of the dumbest articles to reach the slashdot headlines.
So basically facebook changed there maximum users from a huge number to an even bigger number.
Are we going to post a news story everytime google adds to their storage system? or microsoft adds another bloated line of code? or everytime the telco's build a tower?
Nice... well it is hypothetically theft as your intended use for the material is actually to only listen to the audio, however legally you could claim it is an artistic representation of the source material and more than likely win your lawsuit as the only way for the plantiff to prove his case is to concretely show that you minimize the video player all the time, and that would require some sort of spying-which while the homeland security is all for but most judges are against.
Fan Music Videos are a little different. They are artistic representations of the source material(s) and actually have a decent defense in court. Much in the same way as a DJ is allowed to mix and mashup music. A Fan music video works in the same regards. Now putting up the original video comissioned by the artist/record label without their consent should be removed.
Even though youtube is a video site they should have created an extensive audio fingerprint system.
That would be much better and with copyright material audio is the key. It covers both music and video. It is much smaller amount of data and and is easily identifiable across compression and formats.
Altering just the audio is a little trickier and if the audio is altered enough it really takes away from the viewing expierience sometimes making it unwatchable. Copyright holders would give google an audio fingerprint for their works and youtube would check all audio against that. Music & Video copywritten material could be protected at the same time.
You are completely wrong in every sense...oh my god,,,is that steve?!... OMG I WANT YOUR BEBIEZ!!!111.....like I was saying Apple makes great products, and they are always dedicated to improving the design interface and technology associated with those products. Apple takes approx.. 2 years from start to finish in creating and working to perfect every detail. I am sure they have some crazy things that they are holding back, but what sets apple apart is that they won't release something until they have it polished. Companies that do that always do well.... Blizzard has had that mentality and it has done very well for them as well.
MS and most other companies, tech specifically, have no clear vision on what they want to do... this is where jobs...OMG DID SOMEONE SAY JOBS!!! I WANT YOUR BEBIEZ!!11!....is better than most CEO's. He has a very clear vision for his products and his company. They focus on the product and and do it VERY VERY well. Then they improve on that product on each generation tweaking and making it better and better.
Video on the ipod nano is new, and it is the SAME resolution as the larger ipod video predecessor. They unleashed a touch interface that is MILES ahead of everyone else in the industry, and yet they somehow are "holding back". Flash memory is expensive, and once the price for it comes further and further down they will make larger storage space available for these already small form factors.

Policeman have quotas... so do salesman.
Think about that.
Yes someone may have complained, but really if you take a close look at the criminal justice system in America it really does resemble a business.
Lawmakers = Marketing
Police = Salesman
Judges = Accounting/Invoicing
On a side note:
I really hate how every problem requires a clarification that it wasn't Terrorists.

Excellent.... although modded funny it is also insightful.
Nice ... well it is hypothetically theft as your intended use for the material is actually to only listen to the audio, however legally you could claim it is an artistic representation of the source material and more than likely win your lawsuit as the only way for the plantiff to prove his case is to concretely show that you minimize the video player all the time, and that would require some sort of spying-which while the homeland security is all for but most judges are against.

You are completely wrong in every sense ...oh my god,,,is that steve?!...
Is a way overblown assumption of Apple's view on the open source community.
Apple's Open Source Page
I can't believe you cited IranFocus.com That website is really questionable.

Kinda weak on the names....however I did like the Robot named "Dr. Claw"
What about these fine options:
GutsGrabber
Hobocop
BasementBot
The Organ Extracting Robotic Overlord
Does it Run Linux?
Cowboy Steel
