It's not that bad of an idea people. It just needs to be presented the right way. I'd much rather have an option during install that lets me turn this feature on or off. Sort of an 'op-ed out' function. I think the idea of having the software 'phone home' is a bad idea. If a script kiddie found a vulnerability, someone could watch the traffic coming into the developers site, and then know exactly who has the flaw. Not to mention the privacy issues. Remember what a stink 'we' put up over Microsoft's Windows Update possibly tracking users? --

Less is more. Just cause something is 'cool' doesn't mean you have to use it. When looking at a webpage, if it takes more than 2 seconds to find something you are looking for, it's too long. Keep the java/flash/frames to a minimum. Above all, keep the site fresh. Nothing is worse that looking for info and seeing that it was last updated in 20th century (gasp!). --- #insert
If you look through the site they say they are going to be scrambling the signal. Subscriptions will be $20 a month. I'm not sure if this is just in the US, or the sat over S.E. Asia as well. If it is scrambled in Iran, I don't know how many people can afford the $20 per month. I don't think the per capita income is that high.
Plus the site is fairly stale. The TV schedule is as of 1/1/2001. I wonder if they have Friends yet?:) --- "Tonight on National Iranian Television, You Bet Your Life!"
Why did you tell them your age? Legally they only need to know that you are 18+. That's where your response should end (if you care). I also question 5 years experience at age 20. Did you drop out of highschool? Maybe that's why they are going to fire you.
Corporate america sucks. At least you are learning this while you are young. As a person who has been there, take this advice: DON'T QUIT. Keep a record of your projects for future resumes, I've learned that when you leave a company, most of them cannot give you any kind of a recommendation besides 'Yes, they worked here from X to Y.' Leagally any recommendations could come back to bite them. Ride it out, and pick the right time to strike. ---
"That's Homer Simpson sir. One of your drones from sector 7G."
That statement seems a little bold, but it is true. Think about it. Companies routinely censor employees, demand random drug checks, spy on you, and many other things. The difference between your employer and America, is that your employer PAYS you to be there. As long as you agree to it, they will do what they want. If you don't like it, leave. It's harsh, but I once quit a job because they started random drug tests. I've never touched a drug stronger than asprin, but I felt they were going too far. It's not like I was going to get them to change their policies.
The only rights afforded to you at a job came about because someone sued someone else, and the new 'guideline' was the result. --- "That's Homer Simpson, sir. One of your drones from sector 7G." - Waylan Smithers
Was it just me or do most of these characters look familiar. One good thing about the series is that it will definitely NOT be for hard core trekkers. I hope it doesn't devolve like Voyager did. It was a nice change of pace to see humans getting their asses handed to them.

I posted before when SAP opened up their db code that something like this may be coming. I wouldn't be surprised to see an announcment shortly that SAP runs on the new database. They've even benchmarked using Intel boxes. Could this be a precursor to SAP and Redhat launching an Oracle and DB2 free ERP solution?

Let's see them come out with an anti-virus for this one!
I wonder how long before Micro$oft tries to claim that they invented this technology as a new copywrite protection scheme.

This.sig is a manual virus. Copy it into your.sig, or you will have bad luck, bad credit, never find love, always be fat, or not help a six year old girl who has cancer.
The page is still up on 9thtee for now, however all of the binaries and source have been pulled. This should be a very interesting study in white hats vs. dunce caps (people who THINK they are L33T). If only one or two people got the code, how long before the DeCSS effect takes place and the code begins to spread like a virus. I think that will be more instesting to/.-ers than the actual technology.
I'd cash out. My options have NEVER been in positive territory. In fact I had one company I worked for, when strapped for cash, change their 401k matching program to match with stock instead of $$$. Suffice to say I've already picked out my cardboard box and street corner for my retirement.
One slight benefit for negative options. What about cashing them out to offset any profits made in other market activity. I've never actually looked at this, but it would make sense that if you could cash out positive options, you could cash out negatives...
If memory serves me... I heard that the Shatner US version of the show will be on UPN, and only consist of 1 episode taped in Vegas to see how it runs. I'm sorry, but Shatner is no Kaga!
We are demanding! Kenichi vs Emeril! I think Bobby Flay should be the main ingredient! BAM!
Given the fact that the human race's numbers will explode without natural selection taking place, how do you propose to control the population of the earth? Do your rings have some kind of a sterilization effect?
I wonder if it was just a loose tranlastion and they ment ERP software. I know that IBM has a partnership with SAP now (SAP's preferred database is now DB2), and with SAP making it's own sapdb code open source, as well as offering Linux demos of their software. Makes me wonder if IBM (et al) are going to make a run at Oracle and M$ for ERP dominance using some sort of new Red Hat platform.

Try doing File, Versions. With the amount of changes MS has to do on their programs, you KNOW they had to build this in. VSS probably has some sort of version control for documents too.

Oh wait, why imagine? Just do it. Set up Beowulf, then play with something like SETI to run on it.
Just like bellbottoms or skinny ties. I knew all those token ring cards would come back in style.
