Wow, if you're going to spread FUD, please try to make it at least somewhat accurate. Getting Android adb working is MUCH easier on Linux than on Windows. And powering off the laptop LCD is one of the examples I use with people of why Linux is superior. (Try manually doing that in Windows... you'll have to get a special program. Linux let's you do it automatically AND manually with only built-in commands)
The point is that the GAIM/pidgin developers love removing features in pursuit of their GNOME/Apple-ish "no options for the user, what we like must be best" philosophy.
People roaming around (eg on the campus WiFi) wouldn't pose a problem because that's all behind a NAT, so your external IP+port stays the same even if your local IP changes. This wouldn't solve the problem of eavesdropping--people could still see my Facebook session--but at least they couldn't jump in and start posting on my wall.
Aren't you contradicting yourself here a bit? Wouldn't the same NAT feature that would allow you to roam around campus allow others on campus to hijack your session? (Or am I misunderstanding something?)
To counter your anecdote with another anecdote, the vast majority of my drive failures have been of the "some sectors unreadable, you can get to most if you try hard enough [multiple attempts]" variety
not interesting until they make a rule requiring a method for me to get at the stream using my PC, WITHOUT having to use their "approved" DRM-based software (like I could with analog)
He wasn't calling you a Luddite. He was comparing your commentary on an app store while never having used one to a Luddite's commentary on technology. I'm not sure I agree with his comparison, but it wasn't saying what you think it was.
The only useful thing I've found on IMDB are the "person" pages which generally have a very complete listing of what an actor/actress has been in, so I can figure out where I've seen them before. Wikipedia generally doesn't have that sort of detail. Also, sometimes the IMDB page for a TV episode will have minor guest stars listed that Wikipedia doesn't
I actually always thought of it this way even before I got into programming, and hated that teachers made me do it the other way. Quotes are supposed to be QUOTES and it just makes more sense to put the punctuation outside if it's not part of the quote.
I don't think anybody (or at least very many people) is/are claiming that Rackspace is outside their legal rights. On the other hand, this is still news, because if Rackspace will take your site down because some people are offended, that's something I and many others here need to know. Usually when you see "hate speech" in a TOS you (or at least I) interpret it to mean things like death threats, etc... not a peaceful but offensive activity. Just because I think this particular activity is indeed offensive, doesn't mean I appreciate Rackspace taking down anything that some people find offensive, because ultimately, someone will be offended by something I say too.
I don't care either way about spoiler tags, but I like seeing complete plots, including twists/endings. That's why I go to the Wikipedia article first instead of IMDB, because it is more likely to have the entire plot.
Check the timestamps on the posts for your claim (the actual ones, not the random ones you made up while quoting). And I did apologize for the earlier attack and you claimed to accept my apology. Now you made me _actually_ break my word by replying:(
Sorry, one last reply (yes, I'm bad at stopping myself). I will say that me questioning your degree just because of your inconsistent numbers was an uncalled-for attack, and I apologize for that.
I'm not sure what about 50% of your rambling there means. The math in my previous comment stands for itself as I'm sure other readers can see. If you care to contest the fact that 2 bytes * x = 9MB and 6 bytes * x = 4MB are fundamentally inconsistent, please do so directly and succinctly (for example by providing a value for x for which both those equations work).
Also, I repeat my assertion that I have not posted as AC in this thread. Those you claim are impersonating you, are not me.
Making a HOSTS file smaller with 0's is not an abuse of HOSTS. In fact, I never contested your assertion that smaller HOSTS files are quicker to read. Go ahead and tout that as another "win". The fact is, HOSTS files were simply not designed for millions of lines (no, I don't have a cite... it's common sense). DNS servers were designed for that. You are abusing HOSTS by using it to replace the functionality of a DNS server. Because the OS is not designed for such huge HOSTS files, it will be slower than using DNS as intended (even for example a DNS server running on your local machine to blackhole all those domains for you)
See here (and other google results if you care) for Microsoft MVPs stating that having a large HOSTS file is a known cause for the DNS Cache service (which handles that file) consuming 100% CPU
1.) Learn to count... 6!=8 2.) This particular comment was meant very seriously in an attempt to help you, and not as an attack at all. Please take it under consideration.
Attacking your abuse of HOSTS files is not an attack on you. Please understand that.
Now for an attack on you: How can you have a degree and yet think it's consistent to say that shaving 2 bytes per line off (going from 127.0.0.1 to 0.0.0.0) cuts a file size down by 9MB but then shaving an additional 6 bytes per line off (0.0.0.0 -> 0) cuts only 4MB?
Now I need to force myself to stop replying to this thread, I feel like I'm being drawn into this sort of situation: http://xkcd.com/386/
Do cruise ships really offer free wifi? Never been on a cruise, but tried looking it up out of curiosity a while ago and all the cruise lines seemed to have exorbitant rates for internet access while on the cruise.

Yes, exactly. Even with no jailbreaking/rooting. That's why this shouldn't be a big deal either way.

make 150 copies of it and take the majority vote amongst the copies when reading? :) (j/k)
That would be great. Unfortunately, I doubt our current government would ever push for that sort of open access :(

True. I wish the deletionists had less power there... but that's a separate rant altogether :)

But yours is (or at least was) the first one encountered reading top-down (even though it might not be the first chronologically) :)
I actually always thought of it this way even before I got into programming, and hated that teachers made me do it the other way. Quotes are supposed to be QUOTES and it just makes more sense to put the punctuation outside if it's not part of the quote.
Exactly. This is the obvious reason to have such a blacklist.

Dude, get mental help. And no, I am not any of the ACs posting here.
So in your experience the prices listed here are not accurate? (not trying to be confrontational, just wondering)
