Did NS make a statement. I just dropped them a while back for several reasons. Price vs service the most important. NS front runs domains also, they need to make some big changes.
ICANN (look it up) has rules. No trade mark or service mark, you have no basis. You get 1 month after the expiration of the domain before any register can list it for sale. Even then, some registers have a grace period that they are able to hold on to it for times longer. (don't know how this works, but it happens) giving you a chance to renew if you have not got an automated system doing it for you, godaddy does, brinkster and others I use do not. Avoid brinkster and networksolutions, they really hack me off and I will drop them asap. I want to try host monster and a few others if they are as cheap and user friendly as godaddy.
my advice, try godaddy.com: register and put the name on the want to buy domain search, it will come up taken and have an option to buy on expiration or to use a domain agent to try to get you the site if you want to try a faster more expensive effort
my experience: I have about 200+ domains and 150 + websites across 4 domain registers
Seems like a lot of folk are in agreement here. I stay away due to the price and all the negative aspects of trying to watch a movie in a public venue. I'd like to see DVD's out asap and I would also like to see the lousy region code protection go away as well. It is a pain to have to dedicate 1 system for US region 1 dvd's and another for region 2 (Europe).
Don't foget space. If you are not very careful, the guy in front of you leans back a destroys your display. If they really want to do well, they should just allow tv through the monitor already in place on the backs of the seats. Why make me break out my laptop.
it did say linux distro I used GNU/Hurd a while , got x windows to work and the cd rom drive, network is better now I read. Still a tough cookie to use, very debian like though in all the pkg admin.
Another Slackware user beeping in. I am a bit put off that it was left off the list, but then again rightly so, Patrick does not care what other folk think and does not bend over backwards to please. He does what is good for the distro. If all the other folk out there want to use a lesser distro (all the ones listed have been used or considered by the company I work for: FACT; folk in the decision making places in my company make bad ones), then that is their choice. I just felt like writing in to show support for Slack and let the other Slack users that you are not alone.;->
So you want to isolate your self from the www, but you want contributions from the community on how to make it interesting ??? This event qualifies as an oxymoron.
Anyone remember a movie where aliens used a video game to find people to pilot their advanced fighters? I am going to start my kid on the combat ace game today !
I actually sync my calendar and mail to it. I can write mail on the train and sycn/send it when I get into the office. The calendar is very useful as well. I am more proud to add that I can play majhong, asteroids, missile command, space invaders, bridge, hearts, and block party as well as use the pda version of acrobat. I could live without it if I hand another hand held game toy.
I cannot help but be amazed at how reserved Richard's responses are to all the crap he gets. There are usually entries calling him eogtistical and such, if that were true, you would think that his responses would justify the label, but they don't. Would'nt it be great if we could just focus on promoting the GNU project and freesoftware and leave all the personalities out of it.
Don't change to make RMS happy. Change to promote free software. RMS gave use great tools and tools that we could modify and build other useful tools. The FSF gave us a media to share these tools and a license to keep them free. RMS is not concerned as much about being the God of all this stuff as he is in protecting our rights. The more we help the GNU project the better for all of us. Lots of people using GNU/Linux or "Linux" as most people will call the o/s, have no clue as to the difference between the o/s libs, apps, and kernel to just the kernel (Linux in this case). Remember, the GNU project has HURD, that when it comes to its own, may just replace the Linux kernel one day. GNU/HURD boots in no time and you can run X windows + all the normal stuff you can in GNU/Linux. It still has much to be done to make it a viable alternative to the Linux kernel, but at least we have more options. RMS deserves our thanks for getting this started, the FSF and GNU project deserves our support to keep the software in our hands and free to modify and distribute acording to the GPL.
Keep in mind that RMS is not in this for the money
like the other kiddies... Gates,Bob Young...
He got into this stuff to give us a free o/s.
Free as in freedom and free as in pretty much
0 cost. The later for which I am and will always
be thankful. I did not know of RMS's existence
until I read mention of him in the book rebel code. I was totally unaware that most of the
applications in the Slackware GNU/Linux distribution came from GNU . Linux Journal (now another comercialized rag) and others did a great
job of masking the existence of the GNU FSF and RMS quite well. Just as the Linux Kernel needed
someone to lead the development to get it to the
place it is today, I think you need a leader/org
to help standardize free software, I have not seen
any other body/org write standards and freely publish them and ask for input/changes.
RMS is a programmer, most of you savant progs are
not exactly known for your great social skills.
Quite the opposite actually. This should be very
obvious , as you have probably read in the
message written by this Ulrich guy, I read some
similar words from others in the mid 90's about
Linus. BTW, I am not a prog, I just use the stuff.
Thanks, you just motovaited me to play with
Slackware's latest toy on my IPX.
I just downloaded the boot and roots + netdsk.
I'll post you later and let you know how it goes.
As to Redhat, they probably don't see any profit
in supporting Suns, they are a business, its just
business, don't take it personally.
(try to picture Marlon Brando saying that)
Newt, your'e no John F Kennedy!
Originally used by Loyd B to Dan Quayle.

Sorry for the format and typos, I do not reply to these very much and am not used to the system.
