Microsoft requiring a passport login may further demonstrate the need to stay away from MS's share source. In this forum, I doubt I need to explain the ease in tracing a person's identity with a mere email address (esp. hotmail).
Would MS go to the trouble? Well, let's think about that for a moment --- If MS believes a portion of a kernel was borrowed or suggested by viewing MS's shared source, I think the answer is: Yes.
This action by MS is very akin to FOIA requirements for the U.S. Department of Defense. A visit to a government depository (usually a public library) can be interesting: diagrams of aircraft, weapons, military vehicles and other assorted 'violent toys.'
However, like the MS agreement, there are many laws restricting/prohibiting the use of such plans to build any such items.
Huh? Yes. I read the article. Did you? The Russian article explained 'the law' (the DMCA) and information about Sklyarov and his wife. I just really feel sorry for the guy and his family. This whole story is just pathetic. And watching CNN and MSNBC, I haven't heard a whisper about it.
The preview showed the greater-sign ('>') in the title but not in the posted comment. Sorry, the title looks confusing without it. The title was meant to read: "This Story is Greater Than The Story of Horny Congressman."
This event is an embarrassment, as an American, because this is a law which, arguably, is truly unsound and unjust on its face, and it is untested. And, the first test subject for this law is a non-American. Would it matter if this law was first tested on an American? Possibly --- this is a matter that should be tested by an American because it is a U.S. matter; a matter which should be resolved within our own borders.
As we post and read messages on/., a non-American whose first language is not English, and I'm not sure if this was his first visit to America, sits in confinement in a U.S. federal prison. Has he spoken with his family? No. His government? No. And how does he feel about America?
I am truly embarrassed.
This issue must be a headline story in mainstream media --- it is far more important than a story of a horny U.S. Congressman. This story is truly a test of due process, free speech, a demonstration of the powers in Washington D.C. and of the U.S. Constitution.
If you have not yet contacted Adobe with your concerns, perhaps it is best to do so. Adobe likely does not read forums such as this (shrug), and the only likely means Adobe can understand this public relations flop is their receipt of email from concerned individuals.

Great idea: EFF can retain the best attorneys in the world (perhaps german attorneys?) and send the legal bills to RIAA. RIAA has to pay! What, do you think attorneys work for free? Perhaps EFF can run the legal bills up to the billions.

I am not surprised to read this announcement because while the U.S. government talks the acronynms and flavs of the day ("We not have a revolutionary E-Government portal!" "The are at the forefront in B2G initiatives"), the U.S. government has no understanding how to utilize technology or the Internet.
There are many possibilities for.us and the government takes this action? Pathetic.
and send the bill to Microsoft. Just how much would it cost for an attorney to do this type of work for us? Millions of US $? Wow, wait until Microsoft sees the bill for this one:).

Flo's Dress Shop, located on Florence Street, today changed the dress in the window to a blue silk face satin organza with imported satin. The youthful sleeveless gown features an open neckline and fitted shaped waist. The waistline is adorned with a contrasting satin sash which streams down the train. When Flo Sharpenton, the owner of "Flo's Dress Shop," was asked: "Why the change, Flo?" Flo responded, "I felt it was time to have something new."
Who care's about Napster? It is only relevant to those in traditional media circuits who have no understanding of the death of the once popular medium, and do not understand the growth of other MP3 music exchange platforms. In other words, Napster does not matter to nerds, only non-nerds.
Perhaps Adobe is unhappy with the 'tone of the letter' from the attorney --- but, their actions, by not requesting payment from killustrator, remains an action by Adobe. This attorney obviously has an attitude problem which requires correction, and if the attorney's client is unhappy, then the attorney must correct his problem at the request of Adobe.
Continue to pressure Adobe to withdrawal this monetary request. But, who at Adobe should we contact?
Who, with any clout, could someone contact at Adobe with a complaint ("I'm (or any of my friends) not gunna ever buy an Adobe product because of Adobe's handling of killustrator) ?

I am not a mac user or developer, but perhaps this article should be distributed on sites which may have an audience likely to undertake such a project. Surely there are popular mac or open source for mac sites on the web? Maybe even posting this article to a BSD site would cater to interested users in an effort to drum-up support for Mac OpenOffice?
I am curious why TransMeta is absent from the review and is often excluded from benchmarking tests. While Linus may be all that is in common between TransMeta and Linux, it seems TransMeta could offer many new features and advantages over other cpus. Any thoughts on the reasons for this?
Unfortunately or fortunately, courts rely on mandatory discretion. A New Jersey state case will not be heard by a judge in any federal court because this, well, was a state case. And, no state, other than New Jersey will hear the case as support for a legal argument.
Sorry, but that is the way the system works (your local jurisdiction > your local state > you federal area > U.S. Supreme Court --- there is a trickle down from the U.S. Supreme Court to the lower levels, but there is no trickling sideways).
I wouldn't get too excited here. Keep in mind this is an opinion from the New Jersey Appellate Court and, as such, is not precedent for any other jurisdiction. If this was a federal circuit opinion, it would have some sway, but it is a local decision.
Although an attorney stated this standard would likely be adopted by other states --- perhaps the attorney has only practiced in New Jersey? Will a California, Texas, Florida or judge from any other state care about state case law from New Jersey? Or even a federal judge in New Jersey? Fat chance.
Wasn't there a ruling/adoption of standard a couple of months ago that all.org usage would strictly be used only be nonprofit entities? NuSphere is a profit entity so it should be disallowed from using mysql.org.

I read at least two references/comparisons with Ximian and how Ximian does not have a product which makes $.
Because Ximian is making a desktop and a Linux desktop is typically free, and its applications have been free, how should Ximian make $?
Isn't the open source/free inherently opposed to 'for sale' software?
I guess if Ximian was to sell its desktop and applications, I wonder what would be a reasonable amount.
