The problem with these kinds of automatic things is that I want to work flawlessly, or I'd rather do it all myself. Having to turn off automatic signalling lights that come on at the wrong moment is much more annoying than having to turn them on at the right times.
Voice reminders at the wrong time are also annoying and distracting.
According to my local rules of the road, if you want to take a freeway exit, you have to start signalling 1000 ft before the exit. What kind of unconscious action would you expect to be able to pick up at that distance ?
You could have made the same argument for crossing the Atlantic ocean 500 years ago. Here's the thing about exploring. You don't know what you are going to find
Except that we pretty much know exactly what we'll find on Mars. A place far more inhospitable than the worst place on Earth.
Currently, we have a welfare cliff. If you're on welfare, and you take a job, the welfare check is taken away. This means that your wages need to compensate for the loss of welfare. With the UBI system, you don't have that problem, so employers only need to pay the difference.
When I was 25 years old I figured out that $1,000,000 invested in an index fund would increase in value enough to account for inflation and give an income of $2000 a month in perpetuity.
We can't all put $1 million in an index fund, simply because the total amount of money would far exceed the real value of the underlying properties.
Seriously, why in the world do you think robot ownership will be restricted
It will be restricted simply because most people won't be able to afford it. Right now, there are no restrictions on industrial robots, but none of my friends have one.
But you have to remember that it is $6k/year per person, not per household. A household of 4 people together, because the BIG is agnostic of that stuff, is $24k/year,
That's not a good approach, though. Housing cost, which is a substantial amount of expenses, doesn't scale linearly with the number of people in the household.
Gold is useful, but you only need a thin layer. Only 10% of the mined gold goes to industry, and we have a century worth of gold stockpiled. This doesn't help to explain the high price.
On Slashdot, at least I talk to people who have a point of view different from my own. Occasionally they are calm and rational, presenting a cogent argument
There are plenty of AI systems that are better at performing tasks than their programmers could do.
The truth is that, as of today, most of the time it is easier, faster and more efficient to do the job yourself
I agree. Not getting the weather forecast is much easier if you do it yourself.
So they used the input that built the neural network to validate the model
No, they used 75% of the data as input to build the model, and then used 25% as validation test.

Unmanned rovers are good enough for that. Much cheaper and quicker. Also provides incentive for better AI to do autonomous exploration.

Let's worry about that when we actually have a need for iron at those other sites.
We have more than enough iron and solar power on Earth, and more applications for those things as well.

Or, Texas can fund it's own space program
The senators want to receive federal money, not spend their own.

So what's your plan for the mass unemployment when general purpose AI does take a majority of the jobs?
Build a gated community for all the people with money, and post sentry guards along the perimeter.

That's a bit too strong. People who happen to sleep a normal amount, also happen to have fewer heart problems. The real cause could be something else.
Average life expectancy was low mainly due to infant mortality and common infections.
The demand is also for the original effort put in the development.
IRC's best feature was the automatic translation of passwords to a bunch of asterisks.

So why are you still reading their headlines every day ?
My ISP offers full speed unlimited data (only on wired network, though)
If the limited speed is too low for a useful service, then the plan it's not unlimited.

You're wrong.
