One third of one day of lobbing missiles into Libya, that is how much money we are talking about to keep these sites operational for one more year. On the first day we shot a wad of some 120 Tomahawk missiles at roughly $750k each. You do the math.
THINK AMERICA! The Military Industrial Complex is destroying our nation. (I would have said democracy but we have a clear or near plutocracy/oligarchy in play here folks).
Massive stock premium? You don't invest much do you? Or you don't do any analysis of stocks much?
A simple ratio is P/E. Typically this ratio is seen on popular stock quote sites like Yahoo and Google Finance and is based on the most recent 12 months of earnings per share.
The Earnings Yield is an interesting way to look at things. This takes the simple p/e ratio and divides it into the EPS.The earnings yield tells an investor how much return (on a per-share basis) the stock's shareholders earned over the past 12 months, based on the current share price.
Finally we have the PEG to round out our simple analysis of a stock's price and help us determine if it is a good buy at this price. The PEG ratio is calculated easily and represents the ratio of the P/E to the expected future earnings growth rate of the company. A PEG ratio of 1 means the stock trades fairly even with expected future growth. Lower means the stock is a better buy now if future earnings come to fruition then likely the stock will rise (of course the market is not logical so buyer beware always!).
All of these use the earnings per share value in the calculation. This is the amount of earnings per issued share the company made in its most recent report.
Now given these three variables why don't we look at your claim of Apple's MASSIVE STOCK PREMIUM and debunk your foolishness.
AMZN: Stock price: 189 P/E: 74.76 (this is wicked high! I never buy stocks with much more than a 20 something p/e IF that) EPS: 2.53 (not bad actually) PEG based on consensus forward earnings growth of 25% for 2011: a MASSIVE 8.158%
This stock is not a buy in my book. Too risky even though I think they are firing on all cylinders.
This stock is a hold. The only reason to hold is the nice dividend they pay, the stock has not moved in a decade from this price range and is not expected to move in the future.
AAPL: Price: 359.00 P/E: 20.08 (not too shabby!) EPS: 17.92 (kind of blows everyone out of the water!) PEG: 0.696 (ooh, a ratio lower than 1 is magnificent since this means FUTURE expected earnings are expected to grow significantly)
GOOG: Price: 624.15 P/E: 23.72 EPS: 26.31 (these guys print money... it's scary since they don't really make anything but only sell our information) PEG: 0.595
We could go on but it's really not necessary. See Apple's stock price is not MASSIVELY over priced at all. Both Apple and Google are expected to see strongly increased growth in earnings in the near future. Investors see value in this and through various calculations you can prove that based on actual numbers and analysis the likelihood of seeing a positive return on your invested dollars is quite high.
There are a myriad of factors in buying equities in publicly traded companies and in fact many think you can't pick stocks at all (A Random Walk Down Wallstreet is a great read on this).
I had to spend the time replying here because you sir seem less like a troll and more like someone who only happens to have a voice, albeit, one which perhaps could use some experiences before opining on topics, labeling 120million users, and, prognosticating much at all.
DISCLAIMER: I currently hold AAPL and MSFT stock positions. I recently held AMZN, never GOOG or DELL.
Would you s.t.f.u. with your trolling? Seriously man.
All the ridiculous name calling and attempt to label some 120million iOS buyers into one simpleton lable of "young, trendy, willing to spend money".... plus what market research have you done on the subject matter? You are a blithering idiot, it's damn clear to me.
Saying that Apple is primarily a marketing company, what horse shit, and I'm not even gonna taste your troll bait. I'm done with you #822545. Done! You belittle all the engineers who put work into OSX, iOS, all the hardware development across multiple device forms (iMac, Mac Book, Mac Pro, Apple TV, iPod, iPhone, iPad, Air, routers, displays)... and who are you to do this?
TX Gov. Rick Perry wants to succeed anyway. The state he bragged (a typical texas behavior, I know, was born and raised there but I got out) was doing so well.
If Texas succeeds the U.S. will save a lot of money after we close the ~15 military bases there, rescind the federal subsidies going to (partial list to make the point): the oil drilling/wells/pumping, processing facilities, natural gas facilities, major airline hubs, highways and roads!, schools, universities and colleges, and god knows what else.
Corporations are greedy. Amazon should buck up, pay the stupid tax and find another way to play after that.
Wellllll, you can read every store's books on an iPad or PC(sans the iBooks product) with the various apps. You can even load up your own pirated versions if u like.
I'm with you -- still running a core duo 2 generation Mini with upgraded RAM I bought as a refurb from Apple as my tv, radio, dvr, dvd player, rental place, netflix, and occasional web surfing device.
Lo so many years (seriously, right after iTunes appeared) ago I ripped an extensive collection of CDs and put them on an external firewire drive that's always connected to a host machine. The drive stays awake but the machine goes to sleep.
There is a national dialogue in the U.S. which revolves around christianity, whether one is christian or not, being "under god", etc... it's time we stand up for freedom from religion (of all flavors) and get rid of this nonsense in our public debates.
Though widely used, the term "Social Security Trust Fund" is something of a misnomer, as the Social Security Administration of the United States actually oversees two separate funds that hold federal government debt obligations related to what are traditionally thought of as Social Security benefits. The larger of these funds is the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) Trust Fund, which holds in trust those funds that the federal government intends to use to pay future benefits to retirees and their survivors.[2] The second, smaller fund is the Disability Insurance (DI) Trust Fund, which holds in trust those funds that the federal government intends to use to pay benefits to those who are judged by the federal government to be disabled and incapable of productive work, as well as to their spouses and dependents.[3]
Watching your social security trust fund go toward buying some more up-armored humvees, obtuse weapon systems, drones, and benefits for the blasted apart.
Seriously dude, be upset that in the US we spend more than most nations COMBINED on defense. This will be the downfall of our country, that and the leeches that make up the top 2%.
I've been saying in all these Android frothing threads that Google wants one thing: your information which for them equals loads of cash. They don't give a shit about open software, freedom, or beating the iPhone. They are like a divining rod for money, period.
In the beginning they gave us great search which was a breath of fresh air. Then they gave us a fairly decent ad network which strangely reduced the noise. Then they made loads, and loads, and loads of cash off of these efforts. Then they gave us pretty decent webmail with scads of free space and a leap forward in online maps.
Then they saw an opportunity in a wet dream. They could make an OS which itself would eventually gather more demographic data on more and more people and make more and more money.
IT. HAS. NOTHING. TO. DO. WITH. OPEN.!!!!! Period.

More likely we'd say its from Pakistan and go all Iraq on their ass, especially in light of the recent embarrassing Wikileaks about ISI's double-crossing us.
It didn't take reading many post Soviet Afgahnistam books to learn out that the ISI has always been interested in double crossing anyone they work with.
Just maybe if Microsoft hadn't spent the 90s truly being evil (opposed to the faux evil ppl lay on Apple these day just because they are afraid of some decent user experience), maybe then they wouldn't have any issues.
The 90s were rough if you tried to compete with Microsoft. They really did use their power to ill effect.
There is NO dearth of 3rd party apps for OSX, not in the least.
+1 for @joeyblades for reminding us of the quality apps Apple provides. They really are a great ecosystem unmatched in quality.
I find this to be true with 3rd party apps as well. I use Win7 at home, dual booted for gaming. I wanted to work on a site in Win7 instead of rebooting into OSX. Even the little affordances in the user experience of OSX keep me scratching my head at WIn7, i.e., the ability to hover my pointer over any background window and scroll the contents, I can't do this in Win7.
I understand he drives a big Mercedes and refuses to put a license plate on the thing.

Create some value here instead of over correcting a simple mis-spelling of a of a word. Sure correct it but that's all you 4 can bring?

Now, can we correctly mod the post above? I'm pretty sure it's a troll.
If you think a "government takeover of healthcare" was a big to do, just wait until the government drives you to work!
The politicians are already driven to work by the government, our tax dollars, and, give themselves raises while minimum wage has barely budged.

But yeah, agreed, it's a big mess.
I remember when IBM's future PowerPCs would be a gajillion times faster than anything from Intel and then Apple would finally rule the desktop. ...

Trying to seek it on craigslist. Find it on craiglook.com if you want one. Great machine, extraneous and non x86.
