    Yes, but you obviously speak better English than he does -- that's great, but how did you manage that? Most likely, by practising. I speak German poorly, but that's no reason why I shouldn't continue to do so in order to improve my abilities.

    I do agree with the point made by a previous poster that the editors should have corrected the spelling and grammatical errors prior to posting the submission. However, I was able to understand the article without too much effort.

    OS/2 is still widely used in banking, as the underlying OS for ATM machines and elsewhere whenever uptime and reliability are of utmost importance. Personally, I haven't used it in five years, just thought I'd let you know.

    China is about as marxist as my left nipple. Its politico-economic situation is a weird, bastard stepchild between military-owned capitalism, nationalism, communism and nepotism. Marxism it is not.

    hm, so you guyz are saying that most developers only know 1 language? Now I'm really scared...
    On the contrary, I said that from a technical point of view, that this would make sense -- horses for courses, the right tool for the job, etc. From a *management* point of view, though, it would make recruitment and replacement of staff much more difficult as the selection criteria would narrow the range of available candidates.

    This sounds like a nightmare for PHBs. What if you were to shuffle off this mortal coil, it would be difficult for them to find someone with a similar skillset to maintain those applications, would it not? On the other hand, from a technical POV, this seems eminently reasonable.

    I've been working in IT for 13+ years and I quit the one job where they mandated a 60 hr week for longer than a couple of weeks at a time. I generally put in 40 - 45 hrs. You don't have to put up with this crap.

    I worked for a huge IT shop (1500+ people in the department) until late 1999 and hung out with some of my co-workers quite a bit. Getting trashed is a great equalizer and having a drunken argument can get a lot of crap out of the way that otherwise wouldn't be dealt with.

    For the same reason that the War on Terrorism has involved very little "hard" contribution from allies (not that they didn't want to contribute) a go-it-alone approach is more likely to accomplish this quickly. Yes, I am trolling.
