This is a 12.5mm drive, which means it's too big for the MacBooks and the 15in MacBook Pro, as they require 9.5mm drives. So for now we're stuck with these awful unreliable Panasonic drives that Apple seems to love (presumably because they're so cheap) which cannot be patched for RPC1.

Ironically, if you try to backup a Quicken 2003 data file via Backup 1.2 (latest version) the application will lock-up. Apple has known about this bug for awhile and apparently are "working on a fix" with Intuit but nothing in the past few months.

That is most likely the situation. A G5 isn't a simple speed bump.
And what I should have said is the iMac-as-we-currently-know-it no longer exists.
I seriously doubt that the reason for such a long delay would arise from a simple speed-bump.

The documentation that came with my 12 inch PowerBook recommends that you only burn DVDs while on AC power, it obviously uses a lot of power.
