  1. What does this mean for Apple's FaceTime? on Facebook To Own the Word "Face" · · Score: 1, Redundant

I'm curious what this means for Apple and their usage of FaceTime. Will Apple have to change the name?

It's about the non-vegans and non-vegetarians who consume large amounts of meat. If there was a healthier, cheaper, and more eco-friendly way to consume meat without giving up the current taste and texture, then they wouldn't need to become vegan or vegetarian.

The followup X-Prize will go to the first person who can make the fake meat seem macho.

Well, when you've received many, many emergency calls on your cell phone (I owned 10 rental units and received calls about frozen pipes and other things) or when someone close to you DOES get in an accident and calls you to come help them, those kind of events make it difficult to turn off your phone simply because you "don't want to be bothered".

When you've always been someone who can be reached at any time, you know you'll be the one they call when there is an emergency. It's kind of difficult to change that.

  6. SecurIDs on SiteKey to Prevent Phishing · · Score: 0

What banks should really implement for online access is the use of a key fob, such as RSA's SecurID. ETRADE recently started offering a limited number of them free to customers and I was lucky to get one. It's basically an LCD screen with a six digit number that changes every 60 seconds. You need to enter your username and password + that six digit number every time you log in. It then takes your password and that six digit number and authenticates it against a RADIUS server.

I used to support SecurID's for Deutsche Bank, and they work really well. Adding extra personal information requirements to the login screen (as INGDirect currently does) isn't helpful when the person logging into your account probably already has all that information anyway!

  10. Wireless network digital picture frames? on Homemade Digital Picture Frames? · · Score: 0

When I read that someone wanted to make their own digital picture frame, an idea poped into my head. You'll have to excuse my non-technical explantion, but here goes: What about making a cheap picture frame that somehow connected to a wireless network? Or lets say maybe there is a wireless transmitter that connects to your computer (USB/Network), and then broadcasts image information to each of the digital wireless frames in your room? It would be cool to be able to select which frame in your room you want to change, and then just update the picture from right on your computer. I imagine most of the people wanting to use the digital picture frames are going to put them not more than 30 - 40 ft from their computer.

I suppose the disadvantage to this idea would be the fact that wireless technology is still quiet expensive, but just an idea.

Pardon my ignorance, but does this mean we are a little closer to having a universal Instant Messaging program? I'm sick of needing to open so many programs (AIM, ICQ, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger) to talk to different people. A single universal program would be awesome. I think the big companies should come together to create one standard (preferably open-source) for instant messaging, although I doubt it will happen. I know there are a bunch of people out there already attempting to do this (jabber.org).

  13. Are we evolving? on What Do You Do To Relieve Lower Back Pain? · · Score: 1

After car accident last year, (I was rear ended) the chiropractor took x-rays and found my back was already bent in the wrong direction. My back had evolved from sitting down at the computer for most of my life. Of course, the main reason this happen is because I was young and my bones were still soft and molding in the correct direction. I have pictures of me sitting down at the computer when I was 5 years old. After that, you rarely found me anywhere else. Of course, now that I'm getting older, the effects of my bent back are taking place. I have asthma, very bad head aches all the time, and sometimes my back hurts so bad I cant bend over. Keep in mind, all this, and I'm only 19. Now I go to the chiropractor 2 - 3 times a week. I want to get my back into the right shape. Who knows what effects this will have on me 20, or even 30 years down the road. But it does make me wonder what the overall effects are going to be as more and more people spend their days and evenings sitting at the computer. 80% of the time I am awake I spent sitting down in a chair, and I am sure there are many more people that do the same. I think a lot of us take our legs for granted. Our ability to walk is a gift that not all people are so grateful to have. Only when we lose something do we begin to contemplate on what we could have done with what was lost.
