After reading how much it will cost in the future to use MS-software and reading how Linux is not yet 100% ready to replace Windows in the desktop...
Why not switch to Linux, and give say 10% of the savings to the Linux-community? Give it to the developers who hack the kernel. Give it to developers who write applications. Give it to people making the desktops. Give it to companies selling Linux-distros. Now, money wont solve everything, but that money could significantly boost the development to make Linux polished product that not only could replace Windows on end-users desktop but that would also put Windows to shame on the desktop!
"Really though, it is a simple matter of decency to give credit where it is due and no matter what you think of Stallman, the man has done more for software than you will ever do or know."
Is that why RMS call himself "The principal developer of OS often mistakenly referred to as Linux". Yeah, he sure is giving credit where credit is due... To me it just sounds like he's annoyed that Linus stole the thunder from his precious HURD-project (which, just like every FSF-project, has been a long time coming). RMS is nothing but a glory-hoarding arsehole! And yes, I know about his contributions when it comes to software, and they are impressive.
"It is GNU/Linux, not because RMS says so, but becuase it simply is. When you remove the GNU, you have nothing of much worth. When you replace the kernel, you have the same environment"
So, shouldn't I then call my OS GNU/Linux/KDE/Konqueror? There has been LONG discussions about this in Slashdot.
"Linux distributed with GNU packages are(acording to RMS)GNU/Linux"
Yeah, and I'm Mary Poppins.
I will call Linux OS Linux. Why? Because I'm sick and tired of having to constantly listen RMS and FSF yell "Linux is not OS, it's a Kernel! The Glory belongs to GNU and FSF!". I will call Linux Linux because it annoyes RMS. And thats as good reason as any if you ask me.
Well, they have about 30 billion in cash and short-term investments. Maybe about 20 billion dollars in fines?
Massive fines to top-executives of MS (Gates, Ballmer etc.). It really hurts when they touch YOUR money!
Opening of some of their proprietary protocols. I'm thinking of Office file-formats (competing Office-suites could really compete) and maybe DirectX
And, what could WE do to help comptetition gain on them? Well, think of ways to help. You Linux-application crashed? Write a bug-report! You notice something could be done better? Write to the developers (if you can't change it yourself)! Write documentation! Create artwork for the desktops! Evangelize!
People, it's time we got off our arses and start doing something!
Well, since I already got started, then why not add fuel to the flame?
I think that Gnome-folks are annoyed by KDE because they compare the two projects, and they notice that whereas KDE is progressing fast, their project is standing still! And they then vent their frustration at KDE-project.
Gnome-project releases press-releases, but that seems to be just about only thing they release! In the same time KDE-project quietly releases KDE 2.0, 2.0.1, 2.1, 2.1.1, 2.1.2 and 2.2. Some may say "just wait for Gnome 2.0!". Well, by that time KDE will release KDE 3.0. Other project talks the talk, while other walks the walk
Go ahead, flame me. Mod me as flamebait or troll. I don't really care. I'm just sick and tired of having to listen GNU-folks and their supporters cry when their pet-project can't compete! Well, tough luck!
Go ahead and use Gnome, you have that right. I just hope that you let others choose the desktop they want, even when it's not the "Official GNU-desktop"
What is it with some people? KDE is an excellent desktop that progresses FAST (same thing can't be said for the "other" desktop). They have also created excellent multipurpose application that is the Konqueror. And still some people despise them!
Why? Folks at KDE have done a HUGE service for the Linux-community! They do it for free, they create GPL'ed Open-Source software that surpasses many comercial counterparts. And still there are people who complain! Even RMS got involved with his "You must beg for forgiveness" Bullshit!
You know what? RMS and other complainers can suck it. Suck it long, and suck it hard!
If you hate KDE, then use the Officially-sanctioned-by-FSF-but-progressing-slowl y-Gnome with it's 20 million dollar POS filemanager. After doing that, just SHUT UP! Make KDE a non-issue in your life.
As for me... I'll be using KDE, thank you very much. And no, I'm not going to beg for forgiveness from anyone! Not even from RMS!
Phew! Feels good to get that off my chest. Just use the desktop that you like the best, and let others use what they like
Backwards? It simply means that USA was still using primitive analog cell-phones by the time Europe and rest of the world used digital-phones. It means that many countries in Europe have cell-phone penetration of over 60% whereas in USA it's under 40%. It means that while rest of the world is busy researching new wireless technologies and starting up M-commerce (Mobile commerce), americans are still learning to use SMS.

i just hope they learn to quit breaking binary compatibility with each major release:)
Doesn't GCC 3 break binary compatibility regardless? KDE decided to move to QT3 when they did so end-users would have easier time. If they did it otherwise, users would lose binary compatibility when changing to GCC 3, and then again when moving to KDE/QT 3. This way they can move to GCC/KDE/QT 3 in the same time, breaking binary compatibility only once (instead of twice)

Dont bother trying to find all the inconsitencies in star trek, theres too many.

When he toured the Star Trek set (and played a cameo-role as himself in one TNG episode), he took a look at the warp-core and said "I'm working on that".

Actually, it was the Hindu god Vishnu who said that in Gita (Hindu sacred text). Oppenheimer just quoted that piece of text.
