  1. Re:Afforable, safe ait transportation on Alternatives to Cars? · · Score: 1

You might be better off with a paraglider. A helicopter (say a full sized Bell) costs over $500 an hour to operate. A small one will cost at least $200. If you get an ultralight (one that flies under 14 CFR part 103), you will probably be labelled an idiot or dead within a year. Your per-hour cost will be about $60 though! Av-gas is either 100 octane LL (low lead) or a 107 octane compound. It costs over $3 a gallon. you need to get it at an airport, most of which won't land ultralights.

    go with a paraglider.
http://www.paraglidermagazine.com/ is a good place to start. It is an awsome alternative to a car, and quite a bit easier then a personal helicopter.

Your main decent helo choice (for a certified, non kit SAFE helo) is a schweizer-aircraft 300C.

It sounds like you live in DC or LA. Good luck!

DO NOT give up the protection of a lawyer under any circumstance, because they will screw you over. If changes aren't made, have your lawyer send a cease and desist for violating FERPA, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

Lawyers are expensive. I bet you could find one to take this on pro-bono. Ask around, email the ACLU and EFF.

  6. Re:Apple Mac G4 Cube on Real Time Video Stream over Firewire? · · Score: 1

Yes, Macs do this VERY easely. Step by step:

0)Connect the camera to the firewire port

    01)Open iMovie

    10)click the import tab

11)Click import/play and watch your disk space meter turn from green to red. About every 9 minutes 48 seconds of continuous video, the computer will automatically split the video into a new clip.

You can then edit and do other stuff, like add weird titles and export to DVD. If you are asking whether you can compress movies on the fly...Well, plan on spending 20-40K on an Avid suite. Raw DV formatted video takes up a LOT of space. If you end up buying an external hard drive, get a PCI based firewire card, because one 1394 bus can't handle video and disk streaming at the same time.

I probably have one of the most stable jobs in the music industry. I write music for TV. Music is fun, and you always meet interesting people. You might even meet musicians who need IT skills. Or, if you are brave, set yourself up with a DAW, Protools or Digital Performer and mix your skills.

You are involved in two industries that are very unstable. Go for what you want. Have fun. It is not a black mark on your resume, it is an "enhancing experience".

Maybe an Indie label can follow this price scheme:
10 dollars (US) retail for a CD. Wholesales at $7.50. Label takes a dollar, duplication takes 1.50. Producers and artists get to divide up that 5 dollars! A gold CD yields half a million? Divided amongst 5 people? That is a VERY decent wage for a years work on an album.

Someone goes on vacation for 6 months, and returns to find 35,000 emails in their inbox. 200 spams a day is normal for quite a few people. Said person gets carpal tunnel syndrome by having to check a box 35,000 times. Said person wastes 9.7 hours deleting spam. (one delete per second).

NOW, imagine if that person (individual user) deletes spam at the same rate per day. they waste three minutes a day deleting spam. 19.4 hours a year. Now, if there are, say 5 million people with a spam problem that bad (a conservatve estimate) that means 97 million hours are wasted a year because of spammers. 11,000 years of time gone, because of Spam.

What if that time were spent raising children (as individual users tend to do) or helping kids learn to read? What if that three minutes a day were spent on a few situps? Maybe the US wouldn't have the obesity problem it does today. What if everyone could sit down for three minutes more a day and relax?

Also, IF those 5 million people were dealing with spam at work, that is 1.5 trillion in lost wages ($15 an hour) in ONE YEAR. Hell, these spammers are costing us more then our national debt.

Someone above mentioned charging them on an increasing scale. Go ahead, but only after you have sent them a bill. If they don't accept certified mail, send it guaranteed delivery. They can't ignore that either, unless it is out of gross negligence (the mail room lost it...) or stupidity.

Can you stop doing business with them? Then do so, and wait exactly 18 months to the day. Then, bill them for taking up your time ($50 an hour), server space ($5 a Kilobyte), and bandwith ($10 a meg transfered) on an increasing scale.
