Because bigger is better, didn't ya know? If it has more GB's, it has to be better. I'm waiting for the 100gb music player so I can store 2398462439875342 songs on it for 1,000,000 hours of music bliss... ...yeah, I know the battery only lasts 15 hours. So??

Smaller is cool. Saves you having to buy a desk with one of those PC tower compartments.

But you know what I'd like to see more of? Quieter PC's. Everything seems to be getting faster and/or smaller, but quieter would be nice.

As of right now, but that seems like it will soon change. I've already experienced some webpages with Firefox that prompt me to install some sort of XPI extension in the same way random pages prompt you to install ActiveX components in IE.

This would have been my suggestion, however as an end user, I find it annoying when I want to watch a video and it won't start playing until its completely finished downloading. Does MPEG suffer from this?

  17. I'd agree with you if.. on Price Drops For Mac mini Upgrades · · Score: 1

...the Mac Mini wasn't aimed at the entry level Mac user. I've read that Apple is aiming this at iPod owners who might be turned onto owning a Mac but always thought it was too expensive. These people (along with the entry level users) won't be doing extensive photoshopping (if they even know what that is).

  19. Re:Pirated means.... on MS To Limit Security Fixes to Legal Copies of Windows · · Score: 1

Definately includes that. All copies need a serial number. Corporate editions need a VLK (volume license key) to continue with installation and in turn tells activation to take a hike.

So the question is does Microsoft have a database of valid serials? If so, even keygenned VLK's will be nailed. However, if its just an algorithm (which is most likely), then I imagine most VLK's created with a keygen will slip by. You'd need to be using a known leaked VLK and be blacklisted to be denied in this case.

Anyways, as always, this is just a cat and mouse game. We'll just have to wait and see how it all turns out.

  20. Micro-management = no! on Geeks in Management? · · Score: 1

I'm managed by a geek. Being a geek myself, you'd think this would be a match made in heaven. It's not, nor is it for anyone else on my team. His main flaw is micro-management. He needs to know about absolutely everything at all times. This comes across as not trusting us to do the jobs we were hired for. Give your reports some slack and trust in them to get the job done. Let them come to you if they have an issue instead of you fishing for them. This will go a long way towards having them like you as a boss.

I don't know if this is a characteristic of a geek manager but if I can spare anyone having to put up with this crap, my job is done. :)
