    Linux's usability in 98 doesn't matter. It's more than capable of running a car today...


    ITS A FUCKING PROTOTYPE. In prototypes, they'll constantly be changing the software, in the real thing they'll probably have a custom made chip with the software burnt on.

    FOR FUCKS SAKE, does everything need to be explained to you people?

    OpenGL is available on all other major computer platforms, including IRIX®, SolarisTM , HP-UX, Compaq® Tru64® UNIX®, AIX®, BeOS, Windows NT®, Windows® 98 and Mac® OS.

    Imagine how great it would be to have a FPS type of map of where you were? All you have to do is look down into your PDA and move arround the map to find out where you want to go.

    I actually think a top-down map is much better, so you can see some distance around you - you kinda already have the first-person view covered. But, horses for courses, if that's what you want....

    I'll stop now so we can both get back to work ;-), but I have to say it's a bit rich mocking my use of the spelling 'furore' for being a British variant when

    a) It's a work taken from Italian
    and
    b) that's the original spelling.

    Still, I guess that it IS more widely used in the great US of A, and the majority can never be wrong - after all, look at how many people love to watch Jerry Springer.

    Java, on anything other than sparc hardware, is utterly slow and bulky. Wireless (depending on what kind of wireless bluetooth, 802.11b, etc...) can be really quite slow.

    Er, are you sure? If the network communication was fast, then the language would need to be fast, but if it's slow (as you say, but I disagree, BT is anything but slow) you would hve plenty of time to do your calculation before you had to do more network activity.

    The whole point of running java is so apps can work on the multitude of new devices coming out.

    Do they give you comp time over at Microsoft for trolling Slashdot? I'm just curious.

    I know this is really difficult for you guys to grasp, so read this s l o w l y. Slashdot is a discussion site. Opinions you disagree with are not necessarily 'trolls'. A 'troll' is a post designed to wind up other people and attract many replies for the sake of attracting many replies.

    Also, when I post a pro-Microsoft opinion, I am 'trolling' - when you post your anti-Microsoft reply - you mock me for it. Does you company pay you to put down Microsoft?

    The difference is, we're the community (users, developers, administrators) and M$ is the source.

    Would the response (sorry, furore) have been any different if this had been the opinion of a group of Windows admin / developers / users? I think not.

    I think the general ridiculous over-reaction to the story belies Linux users fears - what would the reaction be if a 'Windows is dead' was posted on Linux.com - general tittering and laughter I guess. But the opposite happens and I bet this is the most replied to story of the day.
