  1. Good news.. on Germany, IBM Sign Major Linux Deal · · Score: 1

Well it is great news to see articles like this, to help prove to those people who still consider Linux to be a 'toy', that it has really come into its own. I cannot for the life of me work out why people say this.. If supercomputers, government systems, banking systems, and render farms for major motion picture companies can't persuade people that Linux has hit the big time, I dont know what will!

I just find it funny.. the US must have sold them the planes in the first place.. and now that Iran falls into an area under the Axis Of Evil moniker, its suddenly a serious problem that they try and obtain parts? Perhaps you should have thought of that...

    FreeBSD..

..i think Solaris has to be one of the most ugly and tough to work with distributions of *nix that I have ever seen.. but I guess to those who have used Solaris since day one, it makes perfect sense to them.

Ok.. I use Linux for most servers that I setup at work, and I occasionally use it on the desktop. Now dont get me wrong, I have always loved that Linux was free - and I was always ready to cough up money when they decided that the current business model wasn't working too well...

But I feel that the costs for this latest product are a bad decision.. "Red Carpet CorporateConnect, which includes a license for StarOffice 6.0 included with each paid seat, priced at $150 per year per seat."

Ouch! Maybe for smaller businesses this might work, but for larger companies & businesses that might go for a Microsoft volume license (I work for a college, and we use the MS Campus Agreement.. it does work out very cheap), I cannot see this kind of deal being any better than the Microsoft one? Even if this did offer savings, it wouldn't be by an awful lot - I always liked Linux because it took the cost of licenses and laughed about it - they were just no longer anything to worry about.

I guess that kind of business model just doesn't work?

No sympathy.. you charge that much you should write the 'best software in the world', no question about it. You cannot get to a situation like this, where you are possibly the largest software company in the world, only to supposedly admit that your software isn't quite up to scratch.

3D Realms have decided to be a no show at this years E3.. I really can't understand why. I personally feel somewhat cheated as a fan waiting to see the game - you would *expect* to get some more juicy nuggets of game information, yet the 3D Realms media blackout continues - I'm sorry, but I can't just keep getting 'promised' that Duke Nukem Forever will be the BEST game ever when it is released.

And why do you get the feeling people will be complaining about the same thing again in the run up to next years E3?
