After the new iMac was lauched, I proceeded into the Multimedia Office to chat to our local Mac fan about his opinions.
He felt that the product could be a winner because of its design to be a small home applicance which people can use, and stick discreetly in the living room.
But then, like me he read the specifications and the awful price, and he agrees that it is over priced and under specced.
Sorry Apple - I used to think you guys were cool. But apart from the new design being oh so ugly, how could people want to buy one of these with regards to performance?
I think thats a real good point.. these companies put up this bravado 'we dont care' whilst the system admin is having a nervous break down because now every two-bit hacker wants a go at taking down their site.
Why do non-technical people always come up with the 'great' ideas for things like this:)
..I for one love the simplicity of WindowMaker - it was my WM of choice up until a year or so ago.. plus it always seemed to look really funky and unique when you got it skinned, and chucked in a few dockapps:)
Dont even need a high end Sun box for this.. if you look out on the net for any old Sun 3/60 workstations, they do the same KITT thing with the LED's - its pretty cool:)
Customer : I'd like a beer please.
:)
Bender : Why dont you bite my shiny metal ass?
Customer : Erm, okay.. can you tell me where the phone is?
Bender : Its the one over there (points to suicide booth)
Etc
OK... I love Linux, I stand up for Linux where possible, and I suggest the use of Linux where I work where possible.
But what the F*CK IS THE POINT OF THIS ! Donate the hardware and bandwith to charity rather than wasting on this crap ! My god... *rolls eyes*
But the great overpowered & overweight US entry doesnt always win.. besides, not all brits like Mini Coopers - I f'in hate em :)

Blah blah... I'll shut up now
Darn.. I was hoping one of the big announcements was going to be MacOS X on the PC..
:)
But seeing as they cant even get it running quickly & reliably on their own hardware, asking them to port it over to the PC is a bit too much to ask
I thought this was supposed to be 'way beyond the rumor sites' - god damnit, Jobs's overhyping of his products is starting to really rile me...
