  1. Darn.. on PS2 Linux Kit Shipping in May · · Score: 1

I knew I shouldnt have sold my PS2 to help with the deposit for my car..

Admittedly I only every played Gran Turismo 3 on it, but I was really holding out for the Linux kit - but I thought it was just a small Sony gimic, that they were only going to release in Japan. And then they go and bring it out in the US (and possibly Europe?) - doh.

Ironically, their continual 'poking' and 'name calling' seems to be making it more and more popular - I dont know a single person who reads a fresh cut of Microsoft FUD and says "My god - they are so right - time to ditch this Linux crap, and buy 200 copies of Windows!".

I have to say that these continual security alerts are nothing but a major headache.

If my job were to simple admin a couple of systems - and thats all I did all day - then I wouldnt have a problem.. I would just check by every morning at the Windows Update site, or on Red Hats up2date site and patch my systems.

But being as I am the only techie in our group who is concerned about system security, for our 15+ servers it becomes a problem. And also seeing that I have other techie jobs to do throughout the day (like reinstalling machines, installing software, end user support)..

It just makes the job a nightmare. And then you get held responsible if those systems get hacked from a vulnerability.. how can that be your fault?

Companies need to take responsilbility, without a doubt.

    * Huge tax on Cigarettes & Booze

    * Income Tax - taken straight from our wages. I earn around $16000 a year, and they take ~%10 off me before I even open my wage slip.

It wouldnt bother me so much if our roads were in pristine condition, and we could put the money into other stuff - but they are NOT in good condition.

And the thing that gets me the most - the roads are in a terrible state ! My typical drive to work on a morning (about 5 miles), there are about 10 REALLY deep holes that I have to swerve to avoid, to save a back jarring 'THUD'. So where does our road tax, and extra money on petrol go?!

But I myself have recently got into the Solaris market - picked up a new Sun Blade 100 (about as entry level as it gets). Solaris has been interesting - but I do have to say that on a regular joe workstation, it really is very very slow. But you certainly cannot beat its stability - it even manages to make Netscape 4.7 (which gives me all kinds of trouble on SGI IRIX and Linux) stable ! How about that ! :)
